We recently purchased an Audi Q7 (you could get Q5 though) that I love. I was a Lexus SUV person forever but the Audi feels more luxurious. The Lexus is I am sure, more reliable.

Oops, didn't read the whole thing so didn't see your H vetoed the Lexus. Darn.

Oops, didn't read the whole thing so didn't see your H vetoed the Lexus. Darn. He's such a whiner! I got him to admit that the NX300 in the sport trim was acceptable. That man and his preferences for a car that legit lives in the garage and only goes out to the gym...

I also considered and test drove the MDX but it was considerably smaller and just wouldn’t work for us. Are.... are you me? lol I am a Lemon(drop) who also test drove an Ascent and an MDX and ultimately went with a Honda Pilot.

If you go with Audi and are a Costco member, I know that they are doing a promo right now for like $1k-$2k off depending on the model. My coworker just leased an Audi two weeks ago and the salesperson said that they had a special going on and all he had to do was print a certificate and $2k came off the top of the purchase price and lowered his lease payment. It’s not a huge savings, but if you’re getting one anyway, might as well take the free money.

I’ll throw in another vote for the Audi Q5. I’ve had mine almost 8 years and it’s been the best, most reliable car I’ve ever owned. I just drove one of their newest Q5 models while mine was getting inspected and it was amazing. Drives like a sports car but with the room of a (small) SUV.

We are big VW people. I have a 2019 Tiguan and I love it. It drives well, it's plenty of room for us without being too big, and has been a great car. I have a 2018 and for the price and quality, I am very happy.

I want a Ford Explorer so I’d like you to get one of those I since I can’t. Or a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I drove my moms around a bit and I loved the feel of it. SO has an older one and he’s all in on Jeep because of how reliable they’ve been for him.
Swankier me would love an Audi. But only based on how they look because I don’t know much about them beyond that.
I actually really love the look of the Atlas and I enjoy my little Tiguan well enough but I’m not a huge fan of the VW system after driving this one. Although the Atlas is probably nicer. Also the AC vents are too small and clearly whoever designed them doesn’t live in Texas. But also that’s something you probably don’t have to worry about as much so it’s moo.

Another reason I want to move away from VW is I’m sick of paying for premium gas 😂

I just texted my friend who works at an audi dealership to let me know if there are any red flags I should be aware of, so this might be a solid contender.

That’s what the gas thing says 🙄 and I read some online forums or something saying the engine wears out a lot faster (or something more car technical I don’t understand) if you put in regular. I don’t know. Tbf I don’t ALWAYS put premium in but I guess I scared myself enough online to do it mostly.

If y’all tell me to stop putting in premium I will. My car requires premium but the first time I took it to the gas station (and I go to the same one every time and know them by name so therefore we’re best friends), I asked if it really needed premium. They asked if it was a lease or I bought it. It’s a lease. So they said 89 is fine. If I wanted to keep it long term, use 91, but otherwise I’m fine with 89. So that’s my professional advice because clearly I’m a car expert.

The car we talked ourselves into over drinks this weekend is the Infiniti QX50. But I'm reading a ton of complaints about how the transmission is really annoying, so I'm going to pump the breaks while I look into some other beloved cars thanks to this thread. MH just leased the qx50, picks it up this week. It’s his 4th Infiniti (he’s had sedans before) and I had a qx60 before my current lease (I’ll prob get again on my next lease once it’s updated with captains chairs) but we always leased them. He’s been very happy and put a lot of miles on them commuting.

I'm just here to contribute that my VW (not an atlas but still) died a horrific death about three weeks ago after ten years of being downright baby-ed. It woke up one day and chose death and it would have cost so much to fix I'll never go back. I already spent an assload on regular maintenance.
I bought a kia with all the trappings (though not an suv) and I love it.

It’s def on the smaller side-I have the big suv so he’s been able to get away with a sedan (which the girls and I hate) and now a smaller suv. I’d def look at the Acura/Lexus suvs also if you’re buying, definitely reliable if you’re keeping for them long term and decent space from what I’ve seen. I am unimpressed by the audi suv trunk space wise, even on the q7 it’s tiny with the third row up.

Our next car purchase will likely be a Volvo XC40 recharge. My H sold his car at the beginning of the pandemic and we don't yet need a second one, but probably in the fall when my oldest starts TK two cars will become more important again.

I texted her today asking to pick her brain on it. I’m now thinking it can replace my Honda Accord when the time comes.

Yeah, it's small for an SUV but we've never had one before so we won't be upset about the size. Ha.
