I am in the process of selling the townhouse that I owned prior to meeting MH (I've been renting it out for the past decade). We are putting most of the money in the bank while we decide if we want to renovate this house or put it towards new one, but I want to take some money out for something for me. I'm thinking between $1000 - $2000.
I thought it would be fun to all talk about what we'd do if we came into some money. NOT put in savings or pay bills. Pure frivolous. Thoughts?

Are we talking about only spending it on ourselves?

Are we talking about only spending it on ourselves? Same question! I can think of loads of stuff, but not particularly just for me .

Or I suppose for the family. But the requirement is fun, not a "responsibility" purchase

I love this question but I’m having a really hard time with it. Most of what I want to do is house specific or vacation family specific. Just on me is much tougher.

Ohhh I love this! For a $1000 would get - solly baby wrap with flowers (I neeeeeeeed it 😉) - a garden corner bench with storage - lots of pretty flowers to spruce up the garden - eye cream for my dark circles - new underwear that actually feels nice too (I keep buying cheap ones that don’t, but since they’re not ‘broken’ I keep wearing them. - 10 minutes in a fancy baby store with some money to buy something extra pretty, I haven’t bought anything for baby girl in a actual store! - new bikes for both kids (technically dd can take ds’s old one, but she’s love a brand new pink one ) If I have an extra $1000 I’d book another week in a cottage . Eta so this is a combination of for me and for the family...

I would be fine spending it on family vacation. But I don't want to do a big vacation until life is better and I can feel comfortable doing everything. Which might be a while lol

I'd probably upgrade some of my "basics"! Nice bag, nice fall/winter coat, nice neutral cardigans and layering pieces, some new makeup, nice pair of flats/sandals/boots. Obviously not all those things but that's where I'd go with the money! Basically neutral basics but would splurge on better quality.

There's not much stuff I want, but I'm a nerd and would probably treat myself to a few more expensive puzzles. Otherwise I'd want to go on a mini-vacation. A cabin or something--maybe Bend, OR. I also like Vino's spa day suggestion. I've never done anything fanceh like a mud wrap. That sounds cool. I've also never had a facial.

I would probably do a solo spa/resort stay or wellness retreat or something at a med spa- like laser or anything requires a package that can be $$$.
I eventually want new boobs and to fix my tooth that is slightly chipped.
Another +1 on a designer bag- probably a timeless style.
I’ve always wanted to do tennis lessons and still plan on doing it some day when both boys are in grade school and I’m not paying daycare. Dedicating money to something like private lessons would be fun for me. Any experiences you want to do that are safer than others right now?

My new side gig is going to be primarily fun money (for the fam and for me.. i guess I’ll share) but I plan on getting Botox, hiring back my cleaning lady and doing a girls weekends with friends hopefully this fall.
For the family, we just ordered a golf cart yesterday and we are going to join the course that is just across the street and try and get the kids into golfing this summer too.

I’d either do a weekend away (this would be after covid settles) or rent a big house and invite MH’s family for the weekend. For just me, I’d outfit myself with some new things for the kitchen and outside. I really think I want to pizza oven and a porch swing. And a frontgate pool float.

I can't believe how many of you have never done a spa day! For years, for our birthdays, my BFF and I used to do a spa day together. Massage, facial, sometimes nails, or a wrap (I don't like the wraps, I feel claustrophobic).
Fun Fact - the spa we used to go to is the same place Melissa Gorga (real housewives of NJ) gets her hair done and we've seen her there before.
We also used to do an annual trip for 2 nights to a health spa/resort place. I looked into it just now but I feel like with all the precautions in place it would not be the same great experience we are used to.

I looked into it just now but I feel like with all the precautions in place it would not be the same great experience we are used to. About 2 years ago I finally started treating myself to a monthly massage and it's one of the best things I've done for myself. Maddie is very intrigued by my massages and jealous. I've told her for her 16th birthday I can take her on a spa day...but I think I need one for myself before then. Last year on our cancelled Disney trip I was going to treat myself to some sort of fancy massage at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel...but, well Covid. It will happen someday when we get to go in the future though. You and your girlfriends did it right. I think that's a goal I need to make happen in the future. Maybe I'll tell my BFF that from now on for our birthdays that's what we should do for each other in lieu of gifts. I did get her a 90 minute massage this year with the super hot masseuse at my massage parlor so she could fully appreciate how hot he is when I talk about him.

inthekitty, it was such a great idea to do b/c we've been friends since we were teenagers, so how many years of gifts are there! Once we started this it just turned into a nice day together. We'd usually do the spa in the morning for a few hours, then go out to lunch. We stopped doing it when she got a job that included a lot of pampering so it didn't make sense for her to pay for it. But that's when we started doing our trips so it balanced out lol

I should do laser hair removal. I did it years ago (like in the early 2000s) but I think you're not supposed to do it till you're done having kids. I think I need to do it again. I just worry I won't stick to it and so I won't get good results. I really have a hard time prioritizing things for myself.

I did 4 sessions a while back and just needed to keep up with maintenance and you think I’d make it happen!? Time just slips away from me. Turning 40 this year has me shook, so I really need something to bring joy and selfishness for me. I’d really like to think if I bought a package and prebooked every appointment then I’m hoping I’ll follow through, laser and Botox too.
