M's vice principal called me yesterday. I feel a bit better after speaking with him but I still think this entire situation sucks.

Morning. We got 4 in of snow last night, they predicted less than 1 so the school called at 6:30am to let us know they won’t be counting kids tardy because they want them to arrive safely. I did not appreciate waking up to that call because I was up half the night. I woke at 1:30 and couldn’t fall back to sleep until like 5 because my brain wouldn’t stop. It’s -4 with the windchill, brr! The preschool did a terrible job at getting their parking lot cleared before parents came. You’d think they would know better.

I got a text from mh that Cadence wasn't listening to him and was playing with toys in front of the camera during zoom class. So I send an announcement via Alexa, "Cadence, no toys on camera. Put the unicorn away."
He said she was baffled how Alexa could see her.
Moms got tricks!

tgrimes my brain is sleep deprived, so I missed/forgot what was going on (I’m sorry). But glad they called and it made you feel a little better. M’s teacher moved during Christmas break. The school district is on a hiring freeze so they looked at their staff to see who were certified to teach. Only 2 were. She’s very nice but is a horrible teacher. When you’re constantly spelling words incorrectly (writting & ajetive), giving incorrect instructions on district tests, not completing assignments because she has no classroom management skills, during lessons she gives incorrect examples of what is being taught, etc. it’s a hot mess. We tried to give her a grace period because it’s hard during covid times to do in person & online instruction, and all the technology involved all with being a brand new teacher. But it’s been a month, nothing is improving and the kids are suffering. |

tgrimes that is awful. Is M doing ok or is she losing interest? S teacher is fine and is an experienced teacher, but is constantly having issues with internet or trying to manage kids at home and at school. I can't imagine a non teacher trying to deal with all this. When there are issues or when she is pulled in multiple directions, I see S losing interest/focus quickly

Add me to the school woes. We got notice that 1st and 2nd will return to hybrid (2 days in person) in 2 weeks. But this means Maddie is still home and those days with Cass gone will probably be really long and boring for her and Cass' entire class changes. She loves her teacher and will have to start with a new teacher and new students (only 2 students from her current class will be with her). *sigh* She's understandably upset and I know she'll adjust. But she was so looking forward to going back to school and instead she has to start over again. For some reason the day ends an hour and 10 minutes earlier too. I don't know why. Apparently the COVID can only spread in the last hour of the day.  This will be the first time Cass has been in the classroom in almost 11 months.  |

tgrimes , that does suck tgrimes . Did the vice principal have any sort of course of action in place? He apologized for not being more involved. He’ll be signing her up for 2 courses this month, phonics & classroom management. Baby steps. He’s going to meet with her but also suggested I request a meeting with her. I...do no think that would go over well. Yes, we lucked out with our previous teacher who was amazing, but this is ridiculous. The other day the kids were supposed to write 3 facts about Benjamin Franklin and 1 fib. She didn’t know what a fib was so she told them to write their favorite fact. I mean, at least prepare for the lesson you'll be teaching. |

I’m counting down the end of the week. There has been a few more cases at M2’s daycare, but thankfully still none in his class. We need to make it one more day without any in his class and he will be home with me next week. FX we make it out of this week untouched.

Woke up to school being 2 hours late, but that changed to a full snow day. I was supposed to have my niece for the day, but because of no school, I now have all 4 of my sisters kids. Ooof. It’s so loud in here. My washer and dryer were supposed to be be delivered between 9:30-10. He called a bit ago and said he’d be here just after noon. So I will be spending the rest of my day doing mountains of laundry.
Dh is heading up north tomorrow for the weekend for ice fishing. The temp isn’t supposed to be above Zero for several days. I do not envy him, even if that means I’m stuck with the kids.

Also high! Add me to the cold folk. Apparently there’s some sort of artic front coming out way and they’re expecting 10inch of snow Sunday and supposed to keep snowing the rest of the week 😳. Last time we’ve had this much snow was more then a decade ago...

Way too cold for me. At least with activities like skiing and sledding you're making the best of the cold and having fun with it. With ice fishing you're just sitting there...in the cold...holding a pole...for the joy of getting to gut fish later. No thanks.   |
