Also, now I have 30 min to kill in my car because I can’t go in. And there is nothing else in this strip center to spend time doing.

I just dropped DS1 off for his very first piano lesson. He’s been begging for years and we could never find something that worked with our schedules. So I hope he enjoys it because I paid for 12 weeks! I would love to do this for DD1! I took piano for 7 years and while I can’t play great today, I can still read music and pick at pieces. My parents had let me quit in middle school but I really wish they would have made me stick with it. I hope he enjoys it as much as he thinks he will!

Taitai your vacation sounds amazing. My one and only snorkeling experience was in Hawaii with my mom when I was 18. It was beyond cool so what a neat experience for your DS1 and nanny to both have!

I took lessons for 1 or 2 years around age 6 and I wish I had continued. I can’t remember why I stopped. DS said it was great! He was giddy with excitement. Next step is to find piano movers to bring my aunt’s piano to my house.

curmudgeon happy to hear life is resuming back for you and avoided freezing pipes etc. and your family is all safe from the crazy cold snap. I can't believe how you all averted a really big catastrophe with the grid completely going down. It still sucks and still sucking for the state. That's super great to hear that your DS loved his lesson. Gosh if you were here, I'd give him lessons. Confession time, I actually have a diploma in music. Studied for 15 years. DS also has shown interest in the piano. Ugh! I just want the nation to get to a point where I feel safe so we can finish our basement! get the main floor taken care off and so we can have room for a piano. danvers isn't it incredible after all the years you still remember how to read music; it's very much like a language, you never forget. I have not touched a piano since college but I can still read music scores like a book. I would love to start playing again and teach the boys. Speaking of music, there is a fantastic documentary on prime about how the Silk Road ensemble came to be. link If you looking for stuff to watch - put this on your list, highly recommended. Also hubs and I finished The Boys and we really like it. The Expanse is pretty good too and Fleabag is excellent if you haven't already seen them. I also discovered that PBS has MP - All creatures great and small! I adore James Heriot books and he inspired me to study veterinarian science lol! If I had stayed in NZ, I would've become a vet no doubt. Hubs pointed out that I would be living a normal Covid Free life there and sticking my arms in cows. Never know where life will take you lol!

I’m off work this week and we’re at the beach. DS1 and DS2 are getting a lot easier to travel with. It’s so much better when you don’t have to worry about diapers, strollers, travel cribs, etc. We still do have to travel with car seats and booster seats, but that’s really not too bad. We’re in the southern region of the country, and I always love the food down here. I’m going to have to be careful that I don’t gain a bunch of kilos. 😬 While it’s so beautiful here and we have a really great deal, it’s also heartbreaking to see how hard the tourism industry has been hit here. So much of the economy (20%) is reliant on tourism, and the pandemic has decimated international travel. I really hope it makes a recovery soon, because the people who own and work at these places are barely hanging on. They’re so happy to see us, and I’m glad to be supporting the local economy - but still, the economic loss is so evident everywhere you look. Sigh. Were you on the Andaman side or Gulf side? Glad you are able to get away. I can't imagine how devastated it must be. It's incredibly competitive already and I am sure many were operating on thin margins before the pandemic hit. Ugh! I originally wanted to take the boys back this summer or last summer before DS started first grade and love to take them to Langkawi. I am just sad thinking about it.

Gosh! I haven't been on for what seems like a long time. even Taitai went to a vacay and have returned! I feel like I've been solo parenting for the last couple of weeks. Hubs had been working long hours including the last couple of weekends and we're both exhausted. We got more snow Wednesday night and when I was shoveling the driveway, the boys figured out they could sled down it and had such great fun. We have a sloped driveway, not fun shoveling but apparently great fun to sled. I also like to report that my new Sorel's are on point...no slippage at all!

duskymonkey I am still in disbelief that our life remained practically uninterrupted while people 5 blocks over were suffering with freezing temps and no food etc. H and I still worked remotely the entire week like nothing was going on. I am hoping when we get my aunts piano I can start playing again. I never made it to any advanced songs but it would be nice to play some Christmas carols at least during the holidays. I took DS1 for an eye exam today since I noticed he was having trouble reading the clock on the oven and microwave. He picked out some glasses and i think he is painfully cute in them and also looks 13. (He’s 7)

Taitai we tried a few episodes of Schitts Creek (maybe 3 or 4?) - we thought it was a little slow but does it get better? I’m willing to give it a go again! curmudgeon he does look so old! He’d fit right in with my 4th graders!

danvers You should stick with Schitts Creek for a bit longer - I thought the first part of season 1 was not that good, but it gets better and better as they find their groove. Season 2 and beyond is great! Try a few more episodes - I know the characters will grow on you and you will like it. curmudgeon Awwww! Your DS1 is too cute in those glasses!!! Exciting news about the piano too. We have a Yamaha full sized electric piano, because getting a real one in our place would be a huge hassle (would not fit in the elevator), and I love playing. It’s been so long since I’ve taken lessons though, so I’m really rusty. Still enjoy reading music and playing the pieces I can remember. I hope he sticks with it! My DS1 is in piano and really loves it. Now is a great time to learn. duskymonkey We were on the Andaman side - water was sooooo clear. We could easily see 10-12 meters down. Just gorgeous. The water was like bath water temperature-wise too - my favorite! I’ve been to Langkawi (the jewel of kedah) a few times and enjoyed it. I really want to try Koh Lipe, which is not far from Langkawi. It’s a pain to get to from the Thailand side though, so maybe I’ll hit up Lipe sometime when we go to Langkawi in the future! Yay for your Sorels working too! How nice that the driveway is a sledding hill for your boys - wow! Must be decently long.

We could have an O17 piano recital! lol jk
I took lessons for several years when I was young and I've had our childhood piano with me for most of my adult life. I don't have much time to play these days, but I do love to play. Music is important to me and so I hope one or both of the boys has musical interest. Time will tell.
