I would complain to hoa and police both. He seems to think he has way more power than he really does. Every crime still needs to be reported to actual police, not this hoa security guy. And that is exactly why this is a huge red flag. When people think they have more power than they should or do, bad things happen.

Also, no one is going to jail for stealing a yard sign.
He's the asshole.

I don't like the last bit. I could see him making a reminder that certain activities are illegal (such as threatening, harassment, or mail tampering) if multiple homeowners have made complaints to him. Clarifying the law if he's the contracted law enforcement person is fine. But the whole "Do not demand liberty for yourself while being willing to deny it from others. I will be watching" part doesnt sound like a law enforcement memo. Has he sent other communications in the past that are similar, if not political? Like discussing complaints from the neighborhood or clarifying the law? Or was this the first time he's sent anything like this? There was a post before the election directed "to the teenage girls that are stealing Trump signs, when I find you, you are going to be very disappointed with the outcome. Stop now. One more sign taken and you will be pursued and taken to jail." Other than that it's mostly posts about car break ins and such. Uhhh what the fuck

Also, no one is going to jail for stealing a yard sign. He's the asshole. That's also not "discrimination." Theft. Maybe harassment, if it's repeated or ongoing. It's not discrimination.

Our hoa pays for an officer to patrol the neighborhood. Usually it’s newbie so we pay a reduced salary. He’s in our neighborhood 40 hours a week, but I believe we pay the police department his salary. Anyway, I’m 99.9% ours is a trump supporter just because my county is super red, but he has never posted anything like this on our neighborhood Facebook page. He posts things like: he pulled over Santa for driving his sleigh too fast and posted the pic on the fb page, reminders to lock your doors, etc. I just looked and his last post is saying happy new year and glad to serve you. All this to say, what he is doing is very inappropriate, and you are right to address it.

I would report to your HOA and the department he works for. Those messages just scream bad situation in the making.

That is some special snowflake bullshit. Like he is threatening to arrest and imprison people for leaving notes in a mailbox? 😒
