Last weekend DH and I watched Moana, just us two...while DS was napping. That seems confession worthy.

Like thatgirlrachel I've never been to IKEA... but I also have no desire to.

When my H and I got married we were set furniture wise (everything he already had I liked and it was good sturdy pieces) and all we needed to get was a dresser for my clothes. Since he's in the military and we move a lot it doesn't make sense to get stuff that won't last one move... we'd constantly be replacing things and that's super annoying. PCSing is expensive enough without having to replace most of your furniture.

Here's a lamish FFFC, with all the breast pump talk. I am using the Medela provided standard szie breast shield part as a funnel in the kitchen ( had to get a different size ). I also had to look up the translation for funnel from my language - pregnancy brain here too... Can't speak simple words in English...hubs has been like WTF are you asking for? did you say? oops!

PCSing is expensive enough without having to replace most of your furniture. Fair enough and I agree I wouldnt buy furniture there but they have other stuff that is so darn inexpensive. Our drinking glasses are from there and priced right! Their picture frames so affordable too. It's the small everyday stuff in their marketplace i think are good buys. Even though I said furniture there sucks, I think it depends on what sort, particle board sucks yes but they have other types -limited. I have a dresser that survived 3 moves, walk up apartments no less, it's a little over 10 yrs. I have a bed now in parents room - decent condition still, got it from a friend, 7 moves, 17 yrs. It's still going strong. Also we recently bought a bed for DS and their mattress. Inexpensive but constructed well from plywood ( not particle board ) unfortunately discontinued now. It was one of their higher priced point beds though. We figured he'd be out of the house by the time that stuff falls apart. SaveSave

duskymonkey that's cool that you've had stuff that has lasted, the problem is that we don't actually do any of the moving (the AF has movers come and pack, load, transport, unload, and put back together for us) so there's no way to guarantee that they're not being rough with our stuff. Honestly, the size of the store overwhelms me and I think it would be sensory overload if I tried to shop there.

I haven't been to IKEA either and there is one in the major metro area we live in. We haven't really needed much in the way of what they offer since it opened, but like racegurl87 said big stores like that overwhelm me. I don't really like them.

I went to Ikea hungover from a friends bday party last summer specifically to look for a couch. I was so overwhelmed and woozy that I inexplicably didn't go to the couch section. I almost had a panic attack and then I bought about 30 picture frames for a gallery wall I never completed and 2 large bags of Swedish fish. The frames are all sitting in my attic. My H was dumbfounded when I got home.

racegurl87, CoachTsWife, I can certainly see IKEA to be overwhelming. There are short cuts to different areas if you know about it but many people don't. They do have a store map which I didn't know about until recently lol! I wouldn't go there to browse. I usually go there only if I have something specific to get. Depending on the area the crowds are horrid. The ones in the tri state area are the worst in the weekends. I've learned to go week days after work if possible at least in the tristate. You can say I'm a veteran IKEA goer lol! When we got out of college, all my friends needed to go at some point and we would all go together so I got to know the layout of the stores pretty well. Their design aesthetic isn't for everyone. The closest one is 1.5 hrs away and rumors is they may be building one near us ~15 mins away. So excited! Hubs and I usually hit it right when they open to avoid crowds. It's def an all day affair for us and with DS it was an adventure! We're actually outfitting our office with their kitchen cabinets with some mods. Extremely affordable compared to other alternatives. However I wouldn't use their cabinets for the home kitchen as I feel it won't last as long.

duskymonkey We are the same in our views and love for IKEA. I've moved sooooo many times (we always have movers do all the moving and packing for us), including to the other side of the world. The IKEA furniture has held up great!!!! Nothing has broken, which has shocked me and also made me extremely pleased with what I've purchased. We also go right at 10am to avoid the crowds and we know all the secret short cuts in the showroom to get to all the areas we need. Their kids section is amazeballs - as is the marketplace. We have the cutest dishes ever from IKEA and get compliments on them all the time. 😍😍😍😍 IKEA 4 Everrrrrr! ETA: Also the cafeteria and the food stuff! Yes Swedish meatballs with lingonberry sauce. We always get ice cream at the concession stand after check out too. I am sooooo jealous DH gets to go on Sunday without me. Oh - and the free child care/daycare center! And the little mini carts for kids to push in the market place section....yeah...I friggin love IKEA.
