I am so sorry for all of you testing positive! I am so glad the cases appear to be pretty mild so far and I hope you all feel better soon! Ya know for me it is this very weird and very real feeling of... relief? Like we have been running from this thing for almost a year and we were never able to fully quarantine, I have been at work and the kids at school as we just can't swing homeschooling... so we have just been doing the best we can. It happened and we are dealing. So grateful it hasn't been worse. ETA: I cannot wait to get the vaccine.

So does his coworker. I am grateful the coworker was honest and told us all, because if not I really don't think I would have suspected covid? I would have thought he needed to stop staring at a screen over Christmas break and go to bed earlier!

I’m sorry for everyone testing positive and I hope everyone can get on the upswing soon!
I’m haven’t done much research- does anyone know, how are they detecting if it’s the new fast spreading strain or not? I see in the news “oh a case in this state” but just curious if that’s just part of the regular testing or if a separate test is required to detect?

Only some fraction of samples are sent for that further analysis

Regarding the vaccine and the different tiers, does anyone know how one is deemed an essential worker? FWIW, I'm in Texas. A good friend of mine is getting the vaccine this week because she works for our largest grocery store chain. I'm thrilled she's getting it, however, while essential, she works from home and certainly isn't facing the public on a daily basis. I work for a very small company that I would totally say is essential. We are a manufacturing company who happens to manufacture hand sanitizer and disinfectants, totally essential and cannot be done from home. My employees would love to get the vaccine; we have been in the office daily since March. We work in one of the larger cities in the state so I'm just not even sure who to call. And when I say small business, I mean it; less than 20 employees total, so we don't really have an HR or anyone to figure that out for us. I'm basically that person. Any idea?

I am waiting for my virtual doctor appointment, the what feels like a millionth in 15 weeks or however long this has been. I am losing track and hope frankly. But today is the day I am going to say we need to get a little aggressive with this, like the sitting around and waiting to get better it is just not working for me. There has got to be something we can DO. There has got to be.
My prayers continue for all of you.

From what I understand they are just vaccinating HCW's right now and are just starting on those 65 and up and/or individuals with chronic health conditions. This site may help. www.dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus/immunize/vaccine.aspx

soiree, TX has been a mess so far. MH and I both qualify as high risk per the TX guidelines. My county (Harris) refers you to your primary. The primary says they don't have vaccines yet. And so the circle goes. It would be a worth a call to your health department to see if they can arrange to vaccinate all of you.

soiree does she have any high risk medical conditions or age 65 or older? My cousin works in an HEB pharmacy and got his already. He is my age but since he works in one of the pharmacies he got it. If she has anything to do with pharmacy stuff even corporate that might qualify.

OMG So our schools use a different quarantine then the CDC--it is super strict, but literally going to be a nightmare. DH is out of quarantine on the 13th. Unless he wants to get a negative test at day 7 then is out sooner.
I think DD is two weeks past symptoms starting or test date. Around January 17th.
Now me???? Per work (ie. schools), I am out until January 26th. It is 10 days past exposure of symptoms starting PLUS 2 weeks. A negative test can't bring me out of quarantine. However if I test positive then it is just 10 days. Of course that completely screwed us with childcare if DH is back at work and I am in quarantine (and leaving up to the nanny if she wants to come back for the toddler or be out the entire time of my quarantine).
It literally is a mess and a shitshow.

Thats supposed to be fairly standard and makes sense.

fancynewbeesly, oh my goshhh that is NUTS. So DD could go back to school now if we got her another negative test, cause it is 7 days past exposure + negative test to return - but it requires a PCR test and those aren't moving fast so we are just keeping her out the entire 10 to be safe.

NJ isn’t vaccinating high risk until group 1C. And so far we are still on group 1A, which in NJ includes healthcare workers plus all congregate care settings (nursing homes, prisons, psychiatric facilities, etc.). 1B is frontline essential workers and 65+. At the rate we are going I don’t expect to get vaccinated for a long time

The quarantine for the negatives in the house don’t technically begin until either 10 days out from the positive test/symptoms beginning OR 3 days post symptoms ending, whichever of those two is a longer time period and signifies the positive’s release

So they just did 10 days, and did not isolate the positive person from the rest of the family. I told them that's not how this is supposed to work but they didn't believe me.

Scotland is shutting back down because of a 15% positivity rate. Meanwhile Texas is at a 20% positivity rate and every store, restaurant, museum, etc. is packed. Mask wearing seems to be optional, not mandatory 🙄 My mom's boss' family came down with covid. One needs to be admitted to the ICU. Another is a candidate for the antibody treatment due to complications. There isn't an ICU bed available and they are out of antibody treatments.

If they could get all the nursing students nationwide in on this, they usually are taught how to wear ppe, hand hygiene, hippa stuffs, and how to give shots in block 1. They arent certified in anything yet but if they counted it towars clinical hours they might not even have to pay them. Probably in school emts and paramedics too.

My husbands job is doing the 10 day quarantine. Or even he can break quarantine earlier with a negative test. Which is why to me it was shocking that mine is so much longer than everyone elses.

Thats the rule for positives. 10 days. Not the rule for exposed peoples like you, 14 days after last exposure (starts after his 10 days)
