Happy Holidays everyone! L was soo excited about Christmas and Santa this year. It was adorable. I’m thankful for new toys to keep the kids attention for a while. She is a stubborn AF potty trainer- so she will pee in the potty 75% of the time but the rest of the time she just goes wherever she pleases. It’s been very frustrating. Hopefully J ends up getting the hang of it quickly king26.

Hi friends! I hope everyone’s holidays went well. I have this week off to entertain kids and go nowhere, fun! 🤣 M won’t even attempt potty training and is miserable about it king26 so I hear you. I’m baffled but she acts difficult in general so I shouldn’t be surprised. She had moments of being a total PITA opening gifts and being bratty through Christmas so it was actually kind of a relief to not see extended family. Hoping her mood improves in 2021 lol. I’m missing everyone and feeling a little down in general but I just keep telling myself to chug along and hopefully there will be a turning point in the summer maybe? :sob:

We had a nice Christmas. DH younger brother visited with a GF. She’s perfect he better marry her. Stayed away from everyone else and that was fantastic for my mental Heath. We had a few gifts for the kids and some family members mailed gifts to us which was unexpected. Want to keep Christmas as small and simple as possible teach them to be humble.
Also had to talk to DD about Santa being pretend , want them to know we work, that’s what gets them gifts. Also DD was diagnosed with level 1 autism and some autistic lead agencies and Facebook groups I found say that being more literal makes Santa more problematic. DD being diagnosed recently is hard. But validating. I knew something was up but kept feeling bad like I was criticizing this awesome kid. Parenting her has been sooooo hard. And DS is so easy. It’s tough to see the differences and what I didn’t notice now with DD because DS is developing differently.
The hardest part about DD being diagnosed is the reaction. Like she’s now a tragedy with no future. I don’t want people’s sympathy. She’s going to do everything everyone else can. She’s bright, she doesn’t need “programming “ I shit you not that’s a treatment treatment recommendation of her 15 page diagnostic report.
We haven’t told our families because I’m sure they will just suck
I’m hoping DS wants to potty train as early as DD did (2year 3 months) But I’m sure karma will come around and he’ll potty train at 4 or something.

@starzia im glad you got a diagnosis for DD. I know sometimes that is hard but it can also be a relief because there is a reason behind things.
Im sure Ive mentioned it before but my cousin has autism. Hes very bright but oh the behaviors he has had. He's 18 now, a high school senior, and has been accepted into.several college so he is on his way if he can keep his behavior in check.
I also have a lot of background knowledge on autism because of my job so if you need or want to bounce ideas off anyone I am here!

@starzia, hugs friend. ❤️ You are an awesome mom and M is lucky to have you! I don’t recall the specifics of what you shared about her struggles but I’m glad you have some answers. It’s hard to know what’s an issue or just typical 3 yo behavior. My M is much more difficult than D1 was at this age so I wonder sometimes if it’s just her having a different personality than sis or something more.

Thank you I’ve had work experience with autism as well but those kids were very different than DD so that’s why it was hard for me to see it on her

While knowing that making a decision to get them checked is very emotional.

@starzia Glad you had a good calm holiday. Hugs re: the ASD diagnosis for your DD. Getting some support for her and your family will hopefully be a great thing. We are on an 18month long waitlist for my DS for the full scale eval- which is something I’ve been trying to get for him since before he was 3. It’s hard. I’ve let myself get talked out of it a couple times and could kick myself for it. Kindergarten has been really hard for us bc of his quirks.
If you ever need to vent/discuss I’d be happy to listen.

Alot of it has popped up in the last six month or so, so it is hard to know if its this last shitty pandemic year or what. It is certainly something to think about though.

Sorry to be mia, our youngest got a double ear infection between Christmas and new years so that was fun. And why are our kids all so similar? J has at least 3 accidents a day, I am threatening him with diapers again. @starzia hugs! Just wanted to say that some of my best college students are on the spectrum (not sure what the proper term is) and if I didn't see their ADA stuff for accommodation I would have just thought they were quirky. I think people who are not around the full range don't understand what a catchall the term has become.
