Christmas Eve Thursday

Meringues are in the oven. Yule log is frosted. Getting the soup ready now so I can hopefully get a quick workout in.

Over here we have 1st & 2nd day of Christmas, Christmas Eve isn’t really celebrated. Christmas Eve was always my h and my night, we exchange a gift, cook nice food and watch movies.

On the first day of Christmas we have Christmas breakfast and a small present for the kids. In the evening we go to my inlaws, which usually means dh parents, his uncle and dh’s sisters, husbands and our nephews.

On the second day of Christmas for my family. Most of the last 10 years (minus the years when Ds/dd where born) they come to my house. Usually my grandparents, parents, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces & nephews (ages ranging from 23-15). All in all between 20-27 people, I love it .

I just went into B’s room to put away laundry and saw this on his whiteboard on his desk.

This is what happens when he’s up at 6am and he’s not allowed to wake anyone up 😂

Happy Christmas Eve! DH is working today and I have to work tonight. The girls and I spent the morning playing Minecraft. My sister rented out a movie theater (it’s actually pretty cheap right now because of covid) so we went and watched the new grinch with her family, everyone wearing masks. Since we’ve been home I’ve been doing dishes, picking up and will be starting to make lasagne shortly. That will be supper tonight.

Normal Christmas Eve we go visit GMIL in the afternoon and then to MIL’s extended family Christmas in the evening. It’s weird that we won’t be doing that this year.

Christmas Eve used to be spent at my parents' house in MA. After dinner, we'd say our goodbyes and head to my friend B's party for a few hours before driving home. The first year after my parents sold the house, N had recently separated from her STBX so no party. It was such a major bummer.

We spent last year with my brother and my SIL. We grew up eating meat pie on Christmas Eve by candlelight (that became a tradition after losing power as we sat down one year), so we keep that much going.

We usually spend Christmas afternoon with DH's family and I love it! His brother's wife hosts and the boys play with their cousin and their grandparents, while I sip wine and relax. It's also a 45 minute drive, which I usually fall asleep for at least one direction. It's such a nice way to spend the day after all the craziness leading up to the holiday.

Lily is sniffing around a box of gifts and I know shes hoping there's something in there for her. 😄 Tomorrow Doggo, tomorrow. She likes her collection of stuffies that are building and plays with one every evening and takes one to bed.

Why do my kids like to hurt their grandparent? Every time I swear MIL has an injury from the boys. After repeatedly trying to get them in bed, they ran out to put out cookies for Santa. MIL had already asked them once and they said no, so I almost told them no. Well while she was reaching to get a plate, M let the oven door down and MIL didn’t see and turned right into it and now has a huge bruise on her leg. 🤦🏽‍♀️ I’m basically the worst because when I went in to see why M was asking for an ice pad, she told me and I automatically jumped to- well Santa isn’t coming now! I was just so done with the bedtime shenanigans and of course M was upset.

At least they are almost asleep. I’ll have to leave a note from Santa to M to be more mindful and to make better choices.
