I’m almost 23 weeks and have been dealing with SPD since about 7 weeks. I’ve been seeing a chiropractor but I’m not sure it’s helping a lot. I work 3 12 hour shifts in a row, but lately work has been unrelenting and my 12 hour shifts turn into 14+. I think it really exacerbated my SPD, by the end of my 3 day stretch I couldn’t take a step without pain and I could barely walk up my stairs. Would it be reasonable to ask me OB to limit me to 12 hour shifts? I’m so conflicted. I hate feeling like I am letting down my team. But it’s also very important to me to keep working until my due date and to be able to complete my (heavily modified down) workouts, and I feel like this may be a solution?

Nonniedee, miawallace, kbw, babybean, willow, thatgolfb, Thanks so much for all of your support. It really is reassuring to read, especially because it helps me feel less alone and that a lot of this is normal feelings. I am currently 29w 2d. Today I feel much better, both physically and mentally, so I am going to try and capitalize on that and be productive (work-wise at least). I know I just need to get through some of these tasks (like transition planning for my team for work). Once I put in the time and get those done, I will just feel so much better, because at least I would have things written out and a plan in place if something were to happen. Thankfully my boss is literally amazing and there is no stress or expectations from him, most of this is self-imposed because that is just how I am. I am definitely trying to be realistic and not push myself, but there are just some things that I have to get done. SO I will focus on those things, instead of the day-to-day things that I have been doing instead (and avoiding these things). As far as the GD, I am really looking forward to meeting with the nutritionist tomorrow. I just feel so cornered with my food options. kbw and anyone else please let me know what 'convenience' items got you through GD - I think that's the part I am struggling with the most. I prefer to eat whole foods, but realistically I know I need to have some items that I can just grab when I am all-of-a-sudden ravenously hungry. Pre-GD I depended on fruit a lot to fill this gap - apples or grapes and cheese were my go-tos and I just feel like I can't use fruit to fill in here. willow although I was not in the best shape of my life when I got pregnant, I was still pretty active - getting 30 minutes of some sort of activity in at least 3-4 days/week - whether that was elliptical or a walk. However, I feel like with 1st tri, which was rough, I was not active at all because I was struggling to get through nausea and just tired to the bone exhausted. Then 2nd tri, once the nausea eased up, I felt like that was the time the physical toll started. And now....some days I can't even walk through Target without needing to sit down. That's such a mindfuck mentally, and makes me feel so shitty. So thanks for the reminder that I really do need to just listen to my body and whatever it's telling me is ok. Anyways. Thanks everyone for being so supportive and listening to me ramble <3

My abdominal separation feels different this time. I’m gunna order kinesiology tape and hopefully that helps but I’m struggling with the fact that I’m struggling. I have zero help (beyond MH, who is working a lot) so not being able to do things and take care of my kids as usual is hard. We just got back from a trip and I feel like I mustered energy I really did not posses during it. My body gave out when we got home today. I’m just entering third tri so am nervous about how the next while will go because my last two pregnancies weren’t like this. I've actually been using kinesiology tape on my stomach as well, to help with the weight. I'd say it definitely made a difference for me - obviously didn't alleviate all the weight, but anything helps. I hope it offers you some relief. Hang in there!

allthekristysFruit will be hard to have since it's all carbs. I didn't have much during my 8 weeks of GD diet because it seemed to spike my blood sugar. Things to eat when you're hungry-any kind of meat, eggs, cheese, nuts, veggies. I didn't have any kids to cook for, just MH. Honestly I didn't cook much. Dinner was frequently some sort of meat/cheese, veggies or salad, and a couple pieces of sandwich bread with butter. Every day for work I took 2 protein bars for each snack. I liked the NuGo dark bars. They had less than 30g carb and about 12g protein. Dark chocolate dipped and delicious. Lunch at work was 1 hard boiled egg, cheese cubes, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and 1 serving dark chocolate covered almonds. My breakfast was usually a chobani flip yogurt, a desserty flavor, plus coffee. Bedtime snack was 1 cup high protein low sugar chocolate milk, like Fairlife. A lot of stores make an own brand one. For me, I have a huge sweet tooth so that was important to me to feel like I wasn't missing that aspect. I had a tough time with my numbers if I went over 30g carbs per snack/meal. A lot of people can do 45g with lunch and dinner, I could not. My numbers were always great when I stuck to my requirements. It sucked, but I made it through and so will you. Your nutritionist should be able to come up with a good plan for you and have suggestions depending on what you usually eat.

only veggies to limit for me were corn and peas I believe. Beans are also pretty high carb. Possibly carrots too. allthekristys

allthekristys Yes, first tri exhaustion and nausea was absolutely insaaaane for me too. I couldn’t believe how tired and gross I felt compared to one baby. And yes about being too tired to walk in target. I went to FL at 30 weeks and it was about then that I really slowed down. I felt bad too because I saw women in my twin mom group saying that they worked on their feet up til their scheduled induction or whatever at 38 weeks. But I was reminded that every person is different and it is 100% normal to be done way before that with two babies. Talk to your doctor when you feel ready to be done. My doctor had no problem writing a letter recommending that I be done with work. And then even just getting off the couch to go to the bathroom or use the stairs was hard.

Oh, my nausea didn't fully go away with #1 and #2 until after delivery. This is how I pregnant and it's awful. ughhhh I’m so sorry. I rather chew off my arm than be nauseous, it’s absolute hell. Same here. This is why there will be an almost 5 year age gap between #2 and #3 (this one). It took a long time to forget and then convince myself I could do it again. I think I'll be open to more kids... if H gestates.

I can’t imagine 14 hours! I’m sorry you have been in pain. 😞

allthekristys, you can still have fruit! I was able to control my GD with diet. The main rule I followed for myself was to always pair carbs with protein. So I could do a small apple with peanut butter. Or Greek yogurt with berries and granola. My bedtime snack was when I'd treat myself to something a little sweet like a mini-muffin sized brownie and string cheese for my protein and I always had a good morning number. Of course, everyone's bodies are different so much of it is trial and error but hopefully those give you some ideas. I always had to do grab and go first thing in the morning. The Elevation protein bars from Aldi were a lifesaver. They're chocolate covered so I get that sweetness, and they have 20 g of protein! I'd eat one of those and a string cheese while driving my twins to school.

allthekristys I had mine managed by an endocrinologist. She was super strict. But I was still manage with diet. Breakfast was almost always 2 eggs with a slice of cheese and 1 slice of whole grain bread Am snack was pretty much always rice cakes with natural pb Lunch was always a mix of protein m, some form of carb, small serving of fruit and veggie. Tuna fish, chicken and turkey were go tos for protein. Oh and I really liked to make batches of meatballs. An afternoon snack was usually something like wheat thins and almonds. And dinner was similar to lunch. Big things were that you really never go 2 hours between eating except for when you are going to bed. And unless your dinner was less than 2 hours before bedtime, to make sure you had a night snack. And carbs aren’t necessarily off limits i(you actually need them). It’s the portions and types you eat. Like I could eat whole wheat pasta but not white and half an orange but not a whole one.

allthekristys have you ever tried the Atkins diet in the past? The only reason I ask is because I learned my metabolism was okay until 11AM. In both pregnancies I had GD (2014 & 2021), my metabolism remained true. I could eat some extra carbs before 11 and my sugars never spiked, after 11AM, I had to be more cautious. It’s a lot of playing to see what works for you. My OB was also okay with me having a “higher” (140-150)bs once every 3 days if my numbers had all been good prior. I did learn that the Wendy’s pretzel bun didn’t spike my levels. I could also eat 1 Reese’s cup with lunch/dinner and it didn’t spike. Overall I ate a lot of meat, eggs, cheese, yogurt, veggies. I found it easier this time around for food options as there’s so many more prepackaged items for keto.

I'm 19 weeks and the Braxton Hicks have shown up, with concerning frequency. I'm already realizing I can't lift heavy things or else I'll start cramping. This is not cool, body.

How are you doing, wildflower? Have the BH calmed down some? They are showing up in the evenings, mostly. I'm drinking water and trying to take it easy. I had nonstop BH for months with both previous kids and then delivered after 40 weeks with both, so I'm not worried, just taking them seriously and not doing too much when I'm feeling them.

AW!
We have a single healthy baby! Who is also a girl!! Anatomy scan today went great. We don't have the full detailed report yet, but the tech said she didn't see anything amiss.
I'm super duper over the moon excited. It all seems so much more real now, too.

Help! My left hip/groin (?) is killing me. It started out mild and now I can’t move my leg inward or outward without some pretty sharp pain. Is this SPD or something else random?

Is it painful to separate your legs (for example, to roll over in bed) or stand on one leg? If so, that sounds like SPD. And I’m sorry, SPD really sucks.

Yayyy. Any tips? Try not to move? 😭 Really though, I rested as much as I could. It sucked not being able to be active, but I kept telling myself it was a short period of time in the grand scheme of things. A pregnancy support belt helped me a lot when I had to be on my feet (which was a lot, for work). When I rolled over in bed, I would have to mentally prepare and do it really slowly. If it’s really bad, you can ask your OB (if you have one) for a referral for PT. I got a referral with my second, but never went, oops.

Yayyy. Any tips? Try to not do anything putting extra pressure on one leg. Don’t balance on one leg to put on pants or shoes. Avoid steps. When you get out of the car or go to roll over in bed, try to keep your knees together as much as possible. Don’t swing one leg to get momentum. Which is hilarious when your belly is huge and you have no core strength…: Good luck! It really sucks.

I’m 26 weeks and have been dealing with it since like, 7 weeks. It sucks. I avoid any unilateral exercises or activity where all my weight is on one leg. I saw a chiropractor but I don’t think it helped. I’m now seeing PT which is slightly helping, but I still have pain most days. I do lots of stretches.

Mine is more burning and popping than sharp pain for the most part but many types of movement make it flare up so I haven’t been stretching and doing much.

babybean , i had bad SPD pain with DS3 and these exercises helped me a lot: you just need an exercise band.
