Hey guys I can't believe it is December, I have no sense of time anymore. We got put in quarantine again before Thanksgiving because a teacher at daycare was positive. Good times, all our kids were negative but it was the last two weeks of the semester and such a shitahow with the kids.
Hope you all are good!

Ugh so sorry about your need for quarantine but glad you’re all still heathy!!
My H has to travel to FL for work and when he gets back we’ll quarantine literally until Christmas. Plus the kids and I have been bc I knew his trip was coming up. So sick of being in my house right now. I really look forward to new toys being a good time occupier in a few weeks!
L is super excited for Christmas this year, so that’s been cute and fun.

Hi all! Nothing much here. IS THIS YEAR OVER YET? Trying to get in the holiday spirit since my mood is the pits. MH has been down and having problems with his jaw, neck and back so that isn’t helping. Im the default parent with the kids for everything so I’m just mentally burnt.
I put out my Gram’s Christmas village today for the first time with the kids so it feels nice to have a part of her and a fun tradition to start with them.
I think I mentioned a couple weeks back that M started stuttering out of the blue. It went on for almost a week and one crazy day where she did it all day long, like couldn’t get a sentence out without struggling or looking extremely frustrated. I got worried and wouldn’t you know it never happened again? Wut? Kids, man.

Hi everyone! I miss you all dearly. I’m sad our little group has dwindled. I’m so guilty of being lame and not talking much here.
We’re alright. Covid is.... everywhere, right? Had to get N a CV test on Sunday bc he got sick Saturday. Runny nose, slight fever. Any other year no big deal but this year won him a covid swab. Oof. That wasn’t fun. But I got to call off work and have a lazy day on the couch with him so that was kinda nice! And he felt crummy enough to sit long enough to watch a movie with me. He will watch hours of tv episodes but he will not sit for a movie. Most times he doesn’t even want a movie on and I’m like WE HAVE DISNEY PLUS I WANT TO WATCH DISNEY MOVIES COME ONNNNNNN and he’s like no! I want dinosaur train!
Otherwise, he’s 3. These tantrums are exhausting. His stubbornness and determination are great and exhausting. But it’s also so fun to see him growing and learning and joking and talking. It’s so funny to think about how I made this little person that is developing into his own. It also makes me cry to think about how he’s getting so big and only likes cuddles when he’s sick or MOTN.
Work is busy! My primary for the last 6mo finally left the hospital and I miss him and he made me want a baby. 👀 I told DH I couldn’t make a decision for a few months to make sure it’s not out of “grief” of losing my primary lol. But lately every baby looks so stinking adorable.
I got started back in talk therapy and man I wish it was longer than an hour. It’s so nice to have someone to just listen to you talk. Even if I am paying her LOL.
I hope everyone and their fams are staying safe. 💜

Things are ok here. We bought a house in November and moved in last week. Settling in and loving our space! A is doing well in school but is a damn spitfire at home. Parenting him some days is just exhausting. I’m trying to find more patience. Lol! Omg how do you say the same thing I do but in two sentences vs my paragraph long vent about how N is exhausting. Lol.

jt2378 thanks for the tag! Hope it's okay to just jump in. We've been okay, stressed and busy, but thankfully healthy so far! MH is working crazy hours again because of the COVID-19 uptick here in NYC. DS1 has been all remote and I help him all day while also working from home full time. E and D are doing well! They're in a CPSE program in 2 different classes, but unfortunately that has been shut down the past 2 weeks due to COVID. So lately I've been helping 3 kids in 3 different classes remote learn and keep up with therapies all day, then doing my teaching and research at night. Surprisingly I've been very successful in transitioning my research to look at COVID-19 disparities, but I'm tired and missing social interactions.

Im sure a speech therapist can tell you why. Kid stuff us so weird.

Thanks jt2378! We need to get out board going again! yellowcat, glad y’all were negative! pennylane, are you quarantining to be able to see family for Christmas? jt2378, so is it words she’s stuttering or starting a sentence? A will start saying a word over and over again, his teacher says that his brain just isn’t catching up with his language. So we just ask him to slow down and start over. It seems to be helping. It was all over the place, words, starting a sentence, closing her eyes, yelling and almost holding her breath. It was really bad one day but was happening and getting more frequent for like a week. That one really bad day she was also complaining her neck hurt so that seemed alarming. And then it just stopped and her neck was fine the next day. I kind of was thinking it was her brain just not catching up with what she had to say but it concerned me when it came out of the blue and seemed severe.

I’m not really doing good physically or emotionally. I think I’ve gained like 30 pounds or more this year. And, most days I wish I had cats instead of kids... I mean I love them, but I can’t help but think a house full of cats would make me happier.
We spent most of the weekend yelling at the kids and them yelling at each other. I’m so sick of the yelling.
Virtual learning is exhausting and T had a bad go of it last week. A bunch of lying about having breaks when I was home with her and then leaving early at the Y on Thursday. She spent an hour browsing the fucking App Store?! I ended up blocking like everything non educational on the iPad from Thursday night until yesterday afternoon. And, sadly, it didn’t really teach her a lesson. I’m hoping her school goes back hybrid, because then her learning is asynchronous and we get it done Wednesday to Sunday. Plus, she needs the structure and routine.
R is a handful. She is very loving and loves kissing. She is a little overly aggressive in the affection department with her boo at daycare, but then she also treats him poorly other times. I love her relationships at daycare.
R is also very into games and that was amazing to watch come out of nowhere. She loves Pop the Pig and Memory. Memory is hilarious because she gets so mad in the beginning because she can’t get a match, but then she gets happy when they start coming. She also helps me by pointing out pairs. So, we’ve had the whole family playing it which has been fun and exhausting.... She also loves counting and will count objects on flashcards or I got a matching puzzle game.
I must be getting sentimental since they’re asleep... I love my kids when they’re asleep.

@dolly The only person we’ll see for Christmas is MIL so that she is not completely alone for the holiday. (FIL passed last fall and she’s been having a hard time/lonely) Really I just am nervous about my Hs work travel. I don’t want to take any chances of him bringing it back and then us spreading it locally. I really need cases to decrease so my Kindergartner can maybe eventually go to school in person! bsouls I feel you. I dream of having nobody to take care of but myself- this year is just a lot to take on for parents. And everyone really.

Hey all, Virtual learning is kicking my butt. My 14 day quarantine sucked butno covid here. Js school closed on nov. 11 so hes been home for a month. We are all so tired of being stuck inthe house.
Im working from home in the basement again. I havemy aides helping me now which takes some workload off of me but i hate virtual. I was not meant to teach like this.
We saw my parents the wrek before thanksgiving. We did an outdoor visit with masks. It was sad but im glad J got to see them and it was warm enough. Had thanksgiving at home just the 3 of us.
J is finally talking in sentences and its awesome. Hs so much fun when hes good but damn the tantrums and destruction are killing dh and me. He likes to throw things and hit which makes me mad.
Still not potty trained. He hates it. He will poop on pottybutnot pee so who knows.
He has started reading and its awesome. Anywhrre he sees words he knows he yells them. He knows gis color words, all vehicle words, some shapes, and some random animals. He read car wash when we drove past the other day which was cool. . He is very into Christmas this year. We put a real tree out on our sun porch so we can see it but he cant destroy it. He has been making ornaments for it. He loves his advent calendar. He also has been singing christmas songs which is so cuteand goes around saying ho ho ho merry Christmas
Im iver covid andbeing home. My county is out of control and in the top 15 in the country.our positivity rate is 18% wth 198 cases per 100K. People here suck so we go nowhete.

king26 do you think he’s actually reading? Or memorized things? Like N will recite word for word half a book but then we turn to the next page and he forgets the story and then he stops saying it correctly and tells it in his own words. He does recognize letters but I don’t think he’s reading the book, I think he’s just memorized them so well.

I will grab his blocks and spell words and he reads them. Yes when he was reciting books I doubted it because kids memorize. When he sees a stop sign and says stop same thing. But i can build the words with his mega block letters or his letter tiles and he can read them out of context so I know he can read them.

I remember when I was considered advanced Bc I was reading in kindergarten and was in a special advanced reading class in first grade. Now these kiddos are reading at 3! They’d laugh at me being advanced at 5/6! Lol DH was like omg I think Noah can read and I was like nope it’s memorization.

I'd like to take credit for it but i really think vids4kids and sesame street had a lot to do with it. I also started reading at 3 so who knows. I find it funny that he can read but his speech is still so delayed. Reading in kindergarten is still a big deal. We have kids that read the little sight word books but thenyou have kids reading some more advanced books and its crazy because others are barely reading at all. The huge gap in K and first grade is always fascinating to me.

addymac king26Reading sight words is really just memorization. I thought about starting R on some words since she has such a great memory, but she doesn’t know her full alphabet yet in upper/lower case. I started T at 4 and it is amazing to watch, but it also made for a boring pre-k with some behavior problems because she was so advanced. She was also way advanced in kindergarten. In first there seems to be a couple of kids that are on her level or close, but this year is fucked so she’s not benefiting from being in a reading group with them.

Yes, sight words are a different form of memorization. J knows his capitals and lowercase letters but i actually think kids can learn sight words before they know both and its a great way to teach them! I like using words like red if d is hard then when we say red we spell it red and they learn what a d looks like. I do that with kids at school a lot. J likes to also do beginning sounds so we find a letter then go around the house finding objects that start with that letter which is a great way to start phonics skills.

I also worry about J being bored in PreK. I may keep him at his learning center for the 4 year old progam then just put him in K at 5 for that reason. The learning centr is much more individualized and will work on more socal skills which is what he lacks. . With your older daughter have yo used epic books if shes bored? Its a good site that has books on all levels, somewill read to you, some have quizzes, and they a great variety. Might just be something differnt. .

At the end of last year the school rolled out their Scholastic program and she was really into it, but now it’s kind of a chore except for the Literacy Pro that is a book catalog. Her teacher would have been perfect this year because she is young and uses the same sites/resources I use. Like, I think she would have challenged her. I think I’m going to bring up that I’d like someone like her for 2nd. In second they start a gifted program, but I don’t know as if she’s gifted - although our gifted seems to just be for advanced kids to challenge them.

The school district just posted the UPK (Universal Pre Kindergarten) registration is in March. Our YMCA runs the UPK program, but I was a little emotionally thinking about registering R.

DD uses epic , and since going to preschool has been recognizing more letters but not the entire alphabet yet. She can recognize her and her brothers name.
