I want to do some fun things with the boys this year since we will be homebound for the next month. M has already started asking what we will do. I need help with ideas.
So far I have gingerbread house and baking Christmas cookies, but I need ideas on any activities or arts and crafts we can do on the weekends. Please share any traditions or fun things you plan to do this holiday.
And GO!

All the things that @wine mentioned, plus I’m finding that my town (and the neighboring towns)are also really stepping it up and doing more socially distance activities like holiday movie drive-ins, lighted boat parades, Santa on the firetruck visits. Facebook has been great at keeping me informed.
My kids have little mini trees in their rooms and they really enjoyed decorating those.
I’ve seen hot chocolate bars/boards, and, of course, cookie decorating.
Someone bought Josie fake snow one year and that was fun to play with.
There are lots of easy tutorials online for Mason jar snow globes.

Michael's has free online craft classes plus videos of old activities. They also have seasonal craft projects for kids that are really cheap. www.michaels.com/classes

Friday we are going to a drive thru Santa event. They bring hot chocolate and cookies to the car for the kids and then you drive to see Santa so that should be fun!

I went to Michael’s and picked up some ornaments for C to paint. I also got a couple of canvases with Christmas scenes for him as well. I’m not very crafty so I need Michael’s to get kits/ideas from.

These are good! Now I have to look up salt dough ornaments, mason jar snow globes, and check out Michael’s. The pine cone painting ornaments is an easy one, too nam2013!

We paint a lot of rocks. You could do some holiday themed ones. Just make sure not to put them outside if it’s washable paint. I may have made that mistake!

Those look good. Growing up we always made "surprise cookies". Basically cookie dough that you roll into a ball, flatten, add whatever you want (nuts, chocolate chips, raisins, white chocolate chips, ect) and then roll into a ball and roll it in colored sugar/sprinkles. So you never knew what you were going to get. My mom also his a quarter in one and whoever got that one was the winner. We looooved helping make them!

I made these during the early part of the pandemic and I thought they were going to be incredible but they just tasted like chocolate chip cookies to me. I did one recipe that had pretzels and potato chips and another that had Fritos and still nothing special.

A coworker used to make these “boyfriend cookies”. They were good, but I was never inclined to make them myself. guster I saw a few of the reviews said they were just okay- nothing special. I may try to mix the boyfriend cookie recipe with the other one. I’ll omit some of the candies and add in the potato chips and pretzels maybe. I want a salty/sweet cookie! I just ordered hot chocolate bombs for Josie‘s holiday party. Have you all seen them? It’s a ball of chocolate that has marshmallows and sometimes other elements inside of it and when you drop it into a hot mug of milk, it turns into hot chocolate.

guster, I've been looking for some. Where did you get them? Trader Joe’s had them last year but this year I used a local bakery/chocolate shop this year.

I saw those too, but don’t know where to get from. I saw someone on FB selling them, but I don’t want to go that route.
Today I saw we could make Nutella hot chocolate and I might have the boys try that with whipped cream and a chocolate drizzle one night.

Has anyone done the diamond art kits? MIL has done them with Evie and it apparently holds her interest for awhile. I got one on Bomb Deals that I plan on doing with her when she's off for Christmas break. Also the puzzle I bought last week and I have the outline done on, but nothing else.

I have heard about these. Maybe I’ll look into them for Josie, she loves a good craft. I was going to go super old school and get her a hook rug for Christmas. I remember doing them when I was younger. I think she’ll like it.

I've seen the diamond art kits. I may get Cadence one of the sticker sets just because I don't know how long she will focus for.

Bumping this...
I made the frozen coloured balls a couple days ago and it wasn’t a total fail. Highly recommend for the colder climate folks.
The kids had a great time playing and being creative with them.

vino Did you have molds for them for the freezer or did you leave them outside?? I put food colouring in a balloon added water then tied it off and placed them outside on a plastic rubbermaid lid, to act as a barrier from the snow, left them for 2 days. I used a knife to slice the balloon and then peeled it off and VOILA!

vino I’m impressed they didn’t throw them at each other. I could see a frozen ball comi right at me! But B is a much more mellow kid. Also because I am 12. I like your balls🤣
