School is still crazy here but I feel like the work is settling down a little maybe or I’m getting better at keeping my head above water?
Our county’s 7-day positivity average is 8% (which seems crazy high compared to others) but we were over 12% last week. We teachers are convinced something terrible would have to happen to close schools at this point because the data seems to mean nothing to them 😑
The weather has been beautiful here which has been nice though. It feels like fall and I just want cozy bonfires and hoodies and all things pumpkin. 🍁 🍃 🍁

Who is still napping?
Ev was napping every day from like 1:30 - 3:30 (ish). Now that she's started pre-K, her class doesn't get let out until 1:45 and we're not home until 2. Once we get home its like she forgot she owns all these toys and suddenly has to chase all the cats around the house for hours.
She's tired, I know she is. But getting home so late means she's not ready to nap. I just don't know what to do.

August Blooms how are you all doing? Is DD2 feeling better? Hoping it's just seasonal sniffles. At least Canada is dealing with Covid so much better than your neighbor down south. danvers I don't know where you are but that is crazy that the edu board isn't at least communicating or have a plan. Sending you all the good spirits that you'll stay safe. cythe we're still sorta napping. He'll nap 3 or 4 days out of a week now for no more than 45mins -1 hr. I remember once DS went to preschool, he basically dropped naps, he started going around 3+3. They did have nap/quiet time after lunch at his preschool but he was the only kid that didn't nap. Once in a blue moon he did nap but very seldom. Both boys STTN though. Maybe once she's gotten into her new routine, she'll get on her new schedule? Maybe just keep trying? She's probably super excited. Well how is the first week! It's ok if you cried or hung around her school lol!

cythe DS2 is still napping most days for about 90 minutes. He STTN (8pm - 6:30am), and if he doesn’t get a nap, he gets really cranky by late afternoon/dinner time. Some days if we have a lot going on, we will skip the nap, but I don’t like doing it, as then I just have a cranky kid on my hands. I am sure E will figure out her new pattern. Once my eldest started going to nursery school, he stopped napping - I think that was around 2.5 yrs old. duskymonkey Ugh - that’s a lot of meetings in one day! Thinking of you. Is the weather still crazy? How about the fires? danvers Hope you and your H stay safe. It’s good to know that you are adjusting to this new, weird way of teaching. I really give you credit - so much adapting for you this year. CoachTsWife Is your H still coaching football this year, or have they cancelled that? Hope you are all doing well. August Blooms I hope everyone is feeling better!!

There’s a typhoon-like weather system over the middle of our country, so it’s been rainy/misty and a bit windy the past few days. I actually don’t mind it - the weather is much cooler, and we can be outside without worrying as much about sunburn and overheating.
We took the kids to an urban farm this weekend - about 4 acres of this urban green development zone in the city. These types of things (green space in a city) are really rare where we live, and I hope developers keep doing things like this. The kids fed chickens, fish, ducks, picked veggies, and got to engrave their names on baby melons, which will grow with the engraving and make these really cool customized melons for them in about 2 months. There was also a rice paddy with a floating bamboo bridge over it that the kids enjoyed walking on. It was misty/cloudy the whole day, but we had the place to ourselves and it wasn’t hot. Win-win!

danvers Finally got a negative for me on Wednesday morning (less than 24 hrs after my test) I guess I get priority due to my occupation because DD’s didn’t come back negative until Friday and DH is still waiting for his, although he hasn’t checked this evening. We didn’t get DD1 tested because the nurse at the clinic advised not to with a wink and a nudge since she’s in school and daycare and knew she’d probably be back at some point. Tests were super back logged with back to school over the past two weeks and an increase in cases with numbers that haven’t been seen since May. Deaths and ICU admissions are way lower than the peak so I don’t think things are getting shut down like they were before any time soon. duskymonkey I feel very blessed to be here and not south of the border. Someone else on this board in another thread said that the prevailing attitude around them was it wasn’t if it was when they would get Covid and I just was like 😯 because people don’t think like that here. There are the conspiracy theorists but most people are wearing masks ,social distancing and keeping their social circles small.

cythe DD2 is dropping naps. She sometimes naps on the days she’s not in daycare but we try not to let her since she’ll be up super late. At daycare she naps and I can tell when she takes a long one because she won’t go to sleep until 9:30. Taitai That sounds like a lot of fun!

You guys and your non-nappers have me so shocked! DS1 (5) will still nap if we ask him to (if he seems over tired or if we know we're going to be out late), and they have quiet time/nap time at his preschool. I have no idea if he falls asleep, but I bet he does. DS2 CANNOT miss a nap. I do wonder if he would sleep better at night if we didn't let him nap but there's no way we could get through the evening if he didn't nap. Before school and daycare started back up, he would ask DH to put him down for nap every day after lunch, lol. "Dad, I'm tired....." "Dad, will you put me down for my nap?" Taitai football is still on at DH's school. They've played 4 games so far and last week their opponent cancelled Thursday at noon and the AD worked non-stop until they found another team to play (who also lost their opponent due to covid). We found out last night that the volleyball team is quarantined (a player tested positive but did not get it at school) and some football players date some volleyball players so we're wondering what this week will hold. Ignore me if I've posted this here, but his district is doing AM/PM sessions. Kids attend every day either in the AM or in the PM, then they have virtual work (provided by the teachers) for the other half of the day. It is like a block schedule with half of their classes on the A day and the other half of their classes on the B day. Due to this schedule and a longish lunch break for the transition, the teacher's school day is from 7:30-4:00. That is a LONG day for teachers and they only have their planning period every other day. It is NUTS and all the teachers are exhausted. Football practice usually starts about 3:15 but with school not getting over until 4:00, it doesn't start until 4:30. They've shortened practice but we still hardly see DH during the week - he leaves at 6:30 am and he gets home around 8:00-8:30, and goes right back to work on his laptop (usually for football stuff). It's a brutal schedule and I usually carry everything at home during his season, but even more-so this year. I'm very thankful I'm still working from home because it's just easier. I can wear sweatpants every day. lol While the schedule is brutal, social distancing is happening in all of DH's classes. Each class is essentially split in half and he teaches half the kids in the AM and then the other half in the PM. I don't think he has more than 10 kids at a time. That's all well and good but the teachers are working their tales off.

CoachTsWife Like is that your H’s team was able to find another team to play, but what a bummer about his schedule. I figured it would be this way for teachers this year. Thank goodness you are able to WFH at least, but it still must be really hard to have your H on such a crazy schedule. Hoping Covid stays away from the football team 🤞🤞

I took the girls to a local-ish playground yesterday because it’s been beautifully fall-like here. There was an “old” and a “new” section to the playground. The girls LOVED the old section.
Like 30+ year old equipment with old seesaws, huge metal curly slides, a huge metal climbing dome... DD1 could not get enough of the metal curly slide because it was so fast but I’d be lying if I said the height didn’t scare me every time she climbed up to the top.. DD2 preferred those old bouncy animals you sat on that had a giant metal springs.
I am relieved as both a parent and teacher that this equipment is not the norm anymore but it was a super fun find for a Sunday afternoon.

I am not ready for him to give up naps. I look forward to that 2+ hours on weekends. At daycare they whole class sleeps 12-2 but at home he doesn’t go down til around 1:30/2. And he can sleep til 5pm and still go to bed around 8 or so. I hope this never ends.
We have another storm rolling through and they’ve canceled school and daycare for at least 2 days. I get it, I really do. But I still think it’s ridiculous that some rain makes them close. We are far enough from the coast that flooding isn’t an issue. It seems they close any time the sky isn’t full sun.

curmudgeon Ugh - that sucks about daycare and school closing. Here, they have been making all these extra 3 day holiday weekends to stimulate local tourism (covid has really decimated a big part of the economy in our country), but I’m like - ugh, not another holiday! No joke, we’re already at like 18 holidays off work this year - it’s only September! I want my employees at work and I want my kids in school - no more holidays! I’m such a grinch. danvers Love that you got to check out an old school playground. I remember the playgrounds I used to play on as a kid - wooden ones with splinters galore, big structures made of tires, those metal slides, monkey bars built over asphalt....no wonder so many kids always broke their arms and got hurt (I remember it happening a lot more when I was a kid than I see nowadays). We did visit a wooden playground in the USA last summer, and my kids LOVED it though.

danvers, your comment about the height of slides is really timely. Ev fell off the big slide at the park yesterday. From the kid who was scared of everything, yesterday she apparently decided that heights are no big deal. I was throwing away some trash that someone left on the playground and I turned around and I couldn't see her anymore. A few seconds later, her little head popped up over the top of the slide. She thought it was amazing and did it no fewer than like 5 more times. A few weeks ago, I broke my toe. So I have this stupid boot and I get to hobble around everywhere. We were playing on stuff on the opposite end of the playground when she decided it must be time to slide again. She hauled ass over to it and got all the way up (I saw her head whilst hobbling towards her) when she decided she wanted to turn around on the top and walk back down the stairs. I'm not sure how far she fell, but it had to have been about 5 foot. Thankfully, the playground has a woodchip bottom and she didn't hit anything on the way down. She is a little bruised today but overall fine, she even wanted to go down the slide again after she calmed down from the fall. So yeah, that one is on me and I will probably avoid the playground until I can move at a quicker pace :s

cythe gosh! how in the world did you break your toe. Glad to hear she's doing ok after her fall. E looks so big! Like how are our babies this big!! I feel so bad, the kids haven't been to a playground, not even in our hood since March. It's crazy...I just don't feel comfortable bringing them. There's apparently like a dozen people in our subdivision who have gotten it. I have a pretty good idea which ones since they DGAF and them and their kids are all over the place. CoachTsWife sending you good spirits that things stay well with you and your DHs school. Kids are going back to school hybrid next week but I am wondering if that will change again as our cases are rising yet again. Not surprised since everyone seemed to behave like it's back to normal after Labour day. Gah! People are so bloody ignorant and selfish. Also that's super adorable that DS2 is asking for a nap. Lil fella is like a charged up battery and refuses to nap or sit or anything! I am so tired. curmudgeon OMG! send some sleep over here! Lil fella is basically napping like 3/4 days out of the week and when he does, he naps for no longer than 1 hr and during that time, I have to sit with DS to go through his school work because why the hell would be be responsible enough to get them done whilst I am trying to nap lil fella. Taitai lol! to all your public holidays haha! we only wish we had those here. Don't rub it in lady...

So I am waiting for my custard to cool enough to throw into the fridge for making lil fella's cake frosting tomorrow. By tomorrow I'll have 3 batches of 3 different types of frosting. I am unsure what I will be making yet but hoping I'll be prepared...at least in the frosting department lol! So I decided to do a drive by birthday party next weekend for lil fella. It's really DS' pals cos lil fella doesn't have any but I figured, it's something and somewhere for the kids to go and do. Anyways I've been gathering party favors last week and ordering some more next week. Now lil fella changed his mind and wants another TRAIN...specifically Kiwi rail with Kiwi birds eating Kiwi fruit...like really child! WHY! So share what has our littles been doing and up to these days apart from dropping naps and still napping forever ( jeles! ) I have to say that I thought DS was loud but lil fella is even louder. If I had to write how he speaks, it will be LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME!!! WITH MANY MANY EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!! He loves his food and I've sometimes made spicy Korean noodles for a quick desperate lunch for myself and he's often asked I WANT SOME!!! GIMME SOME!!! so the other day I let him try a noodle strand and he kept asking I WANT MORE SPICY NOODLES!!!! I LOVE SPICY NOODLES!! so I gave him strands of noodles and he would keep drinking water and asking for MORE SPICY NOODLES!!! I thought DS was destructive but apparently lil fella beats that. He will deliberately bend somethings or tear books with much force and tell me MUMMY IT'S BROKEN!!!! as he's breaking/tearing into things. I am just like WTF lil fella....seriously, how are you my child.

duskymonkey Your little guy sounds like my DS1 - enjoying spicy food and all! My DS2 can’t stand even the slightest hint of anything spicy - he freaks out and starts screaming. Whereas DS1 loves Siracha and Cholula sauce! Yikes! DS2 has been really sweet lately and saying these adorable things, but then a split second later, he will also be suuuper emotional. Hello 3s coming up. Today, DS2 cried on and off for a good 90 minutes because we put a bandaid on his knee. He has a little open cut, and out here - we can’t leave those uncovered (for some reason, I’ve found that cuts get much easier infected here than when we are in the USA or Europe). Anyways - he was so upset about the bandaid and stubborn about it! The emotional 3s are coming!

DD2 tried some of my extra dark chocolate today - I thought for sure she’d hate it. She didn’t and then I had to share my fancy dark chocolate bar I got for myself as a treat. 😑 I feel you duskymonkeyI’m taking Wednesday off this week to take DD2 to the zoo for her birthday. I took DD1 on a “mom and me” excursion this past winter for her bday and really loved it as a day for just the two of us so I decided to make it a thing for DD2 until she hits school age. She loves the zoo and I’m excited about a 4 day workweek! (I could really use some of those holidays though Taitai 😂)

duskymonkey dont feel bad about the playground, its all about comfort and what you need to do for your family. For us, E wanted/needed a lot more physical interaction than what we could do at home. She wasnt walking at the start of covid so she developed all these skills and had no where to use them. So, we decided the playground is okay for us. Its okay you dont! My toe is a not fun story. It involves me zooming around my house at a speed a woman of my age has no business zooming. Anyway, I misjudged the distance and kicked the leg of my sofa 🙈

Gimme all those holidays Taitai. DS2 turned 3 yesterday! We had a fun day just the 4 of us at home. All he wanted was "a firetruck, ambulance, and tow truck" and so he got everything on his list and was a happy camper. It rained ALL DAY though so we had to stay in, but managed to venture out for ice cream after supper. I think he had a good day. Taitai speaking of emotional 3 year olds, we are really struggling with DS2 and daycare. DS1 went off to preschool so they're split up for the first time and also our old DCP closed so DS2 is at a new place. I do think if he was still at our old DCP he'd be ok, but he is not adjusting well at all and it has been 5 weeks. He gets very emotional in the mornings, getting out the door is hard, and he breaks down somewhere on the drive or when we get there. We hug and he lets go and looks back at me through tears, waves a sad little wave and says "bye mom" in the most sad and defeated little voice. It's really hard. DCP says he stops crying pretty quickly but isn't really developing friendships or seem as happy as the other kids throughout the day. IDK what to do and it breaks my heart. Today she was having a little birthday party for him and he still was not excited to go. "I don't want to have a party with my friends, Mom. I don't." Meanwhile DS1 is a very happy camper at preschool and adjusted extremely well. He has friends (and a girlfriend apparently) and greets all the teachers and workers by name each day when we're walking to his classroom.

Hello all! Way late to the party but September has been crazy! I went back to work part time and DD started in person grade 1. It has all gone really well despite slowly increasing cases in our province. DD’s school has gone above and beyond with protocols and it feels really safe. She is thriving and loving it so I’m hoping it all works out to keep her in person (we get to decide each quarter). Work is fine. It’s way different because of covid and non-related budget cuts but I’m getting into a routine. DH and I already have discussed me decreasing my hours next year once he’s back working full time to make childcare and school/preschool and activities easier. Especially since who knows what the situation will be with DH’s mom’s cancer and we don’t want to ask too much of my parents for babysitting. DH is home on parental leave now with the boys and it’s been really nice for all of us.
DS still naps for 1.5ish hours each afternoon and sleeps 7/7:30-7 at night. We opted not to put him in preschool this year even pre-covid so he could spend the extra time home with DH. DS2 will be 1 in a couple weeks, how crazy!

duskymonkey omg my kid is super destructive too. He will look you in the eye while he does something. Saturday my dad came over and was playing with him in the living room while I got dressed and DS2 looked at him, picked up a full glass of tea, and slowly poured it all out onto the carpet. He will also walk by things with his arm stretched out and swipe it onto the floor. He reminds me of that cat gif.

Like was for your DS1 enjoying preschool! doodlemommy Great to hear that all is going well and that your DD1 is safe and enjoying school as well! Nice that your H gets to be he with the kids too. Have you been able to spend much time with your MIL? I’d imagine that with her treatment, she probably is considered immune compromised? So hard to be going through this right now. curmudgeon As my friend calls 3 year olds - “cute psychopaths!”
