At DC pick up yesterday I had a chance to talk to Leo's teacher. She was giving him a treat for behaving so well that day. And we talked about the improvements he's made plus some struggles. Most concerning is his hearing. He knows more words but has trouble pronouncing. Which I notice too and try working with him on it. But she also said that it could be hearing related. She sometimes doesn't think he hears her. So much so, that when they go on a walk she likes to be his buddy. I mentioned here before that he has a lot of wax build up in his ears but it does come out on it's own. But I'm going to ask the pedi to take a look...clean it out? and see if that helps. And prob get a referral for a hearing test. Deafness runs in my family.
I need to call soon since the practice is moving or closing sometime soon. Still not sure what/where but do know they sold the building.

Hope you can get your LO looked at soon littlelion. DS had an epic meltdown this morning about not wanting to eat his breakfast. MH stood his ground (he's usually the softer one of the two of us). I'm busy at work this morning, but I'm anticipating toddler drama when I get home.

I feel caught up at work for once. And actually a little bored since I did inventories on Friday last week due to the shorter week and now if I would have done them yesterday it would have been a waste of time. So I'm trying to delay doing them but I really don't have much to do today if I don't do them. I need mail to come to do more invoicing-otherwise everything I have has been entered. And I need my delivery people to come to give me boxes to put away. So right now I just painted my nails while at work since I don't have time to do it at home. As much as I like being caught up I'm trying to figure out what I can do to occupy my time to waste away the day. I'm going to see what I can do about getting some pictures uploaded and printed.

littlelion, hope you can get some answers soon about L's ears/hearing. Not much going on here - I'm doing some Prime shopping, but nothing crazy so far, though I'm trying to talk H into the Echo. We have the Dot already, but I'd really like the upgrade to just play music on that, and the price is awesome right now. Plus, we've been talking about a second dot to put upstairs anyway, so this way, we could just move the one we have. I'm leaving work early to take DS to the pediatrician, he has a diaper rash that simply won't go away, so hopefully we get a simple diagnosis of it's a fungus or yeast infection and some ointment to finally make it go away - it's starting to get so sad looking at his red bottom!

I officially have a 4 year old today. And she was a total grumpasaurus rex! She was PISSED that she didn't wake up to a "birthday rainbow frosting cake" this morning but she's not getting cake until her party this weekend so she'll just have to deal with how disappointing life is sometimes.

L unexpectedly slept in until 7:45. I actually woke him up because that was a 12.5 hour sleep and I was getting worried. My husband and I were glad for the extra sleep though!
I've got some things on my to-do list today that I'm forcing myself to get done, mostly involving sending some emails and making appointments. I also got feedback from my advisor on a chapter of my dissertation (FINALLY) so I've got to read through his comments and get motivated to start working on it.

littlelion, I did a hearing test with BH last fall, let me know if you have any questions about the process. I have a meeting this morning and a 3 hour training (part 1 of 3) this afternoon. My boss called this morning to make sure I had "toothpicks to prop my eyelids open" so I'm guessing the training is going to be a little monotonous. Since he's not a fan of this training, he gave me permission to multi-task during it. Which I'm pretty sure means "keep an eye on your amazon prime day deals."

Amazon has ALL of my money. I got two fire tablets, one for us and one for my mom, the evenflo convertible car seat for mh's car, and a bunch of little stuff we needed. I have a few more deals in keeping an eye out for. I jeep telling myself that its stuff we need/were going to buy anyways but my wallet is hurting. Lol

Other than Prime day stalking, here's my day so far:
Nanny Kid: I bet you can't take a poop as gross and sticky as me.
My DD: Hold my beer.

DS slept in until almost 8 today! We're hoping that some time outside wore him out enough to take a nap since he tends to boycott them when he sleeps in. Given how much yodeling I'm hearing over the monitor right now, I'm not too optimistic.

The lack of napping, or poorly-timed naps (as in, she skips her early afternoon nap in favor of falling asleep ON ME late in the afternoon, making bedtime a total fucking shit-show) is really starting to wear on me. I have things to do for work, I have a million things to do in my home, and she won't let me DO ANYTHING except read her the goddamn giant nursery rhyme book her grandmother got her and I'm just so frustrated by it. SO FRUSTRATED.
Otherwise, we went and saw a friend who has a kid a few weeks younger than E and watched them battle it out over baby dolls while we caught up. E is a pretty easy-going kid with other kids, most of the time. She let the other little girl play with her baby doll and did other things. She only started to be a pill when we tried to leave and she tried to steal her friend's doll and book! She even let her friend eat all her Cheerios.
But now I've put her in her crib with her lovey and a book and I'm letting her entertain herself while I update band and orchestra handbooks for the new school year, and hopefully get some of my old things from home boxed up and put away. I just need a little bit of time to myself, you know? And bedtimes are taking FOREVER and I'm just beat by the end of it and don't want to do house stuff at 9pm. Ugggghhh.

fuzzylogic, don't feel bad for being so frustrated, it happens. During those super frustrating days with DS, I feel absolutely no guilt letting Elmo or Daniel Tiger pitch in with a little extra parenting to give me a break. I hope the naps/bedtime situation improves soon for you.

jillywilly, I just wish I knew the reason why she is refusing to nap. 19mo is way too early to drop her only nap. But some days when she doesn't nap she's just fine. But I'm not ready for this. If school was in session, it'd be DC's problem. And they know how to deal with this. I apparently do not. But I figure she's safe in her crib talking to herself and maybe she'll just pass out eventually. But it sounds very much like she's not going to. She nodded off in the car on our way home from our friend's house! She has to need this.

It was super frustrating esp after I was on maternity leave and had to deal with it every single day. After getting upset to the pt of tears I promised I'd give up expecting him to nap after an hr and just let him up. He's been better since returning to DC. I get a lot of whining and tears but he usually goes down in less than 20 min.

littlelion I hope it's just an earwax issue. I know when my H seems a little deaf he benefits from getting his ears professionally cleaned out by a doctor. It's hard when our littles can't actually tell us if anything is wrong.

fuzzylogic I hope she gets her sleep sorted out soon! I think that was about the age where we had to push back naptime a bit just to get DS to sleep--I was doing 11:30ish when he first dropped his morning nap at 16 months and once I pushed it to 12:30ish, it helped for a while. Now at almost 3, I'm wondering if I need to not let him sleep in past 7 if I want to get him to take a nap (normal wakeup is around 6:30, so it wouldn't be a regular thing) because he definitely still needs it.

Thanks ladies! Your comments made me just call the drs office and get an appt asap. It's on Saturday. I can imagine the fun we'll have getting him to cooperate. billyhorrible, thanks! Can you tell me know how old he was and what to expect? I know when they are under 1 yo (?) they had to be sleeping and that's why I never took L. He was an unpredictable napper. I have 2 vacation days in a couple weeks. I'm going to go ahead and make the appt to get that done.

My sister is currently in Italy. I texted my BIL for info on my nephews' audiologist. I want one in the area. Which he confirmed his was. But he doesn't know anything else. 😒 Prime example of mental load.

fuzzylogic, my DS had gone through spells of refusing naps and it's no fun, by the good news is he always goes back to regular naps. I will say that as much as we used to love car naps, somewhere along the way we found out that if he dozed off for even five minutes, he'd refuse a nap, so there was a point where if we were out running late morning errands, I'd normally sit in the back with him to keep him awake, or if I was driving on my own, keep a stockpile of toys in the front to toss back there to avoid the car nap so he'd still nap at home! Now he basically never falls asleep in the car anyway. But yeah, if she doesn't nap, she's safe in her crib if she's happy there, and we've also let DS just snuggle and watch a movie if he refuses a nap just so he still gets that downtime.

She ended up not napping and I just didn't nurse her late in the afternoon figuring it would cause her to pass out. Put on Moana, got some stuff done. Then as I was finishing up making dinner we heard a loud pop and our power went out. Whoops! It was back on in 90 minutes. It was just three of us on our street. I think a squirrel hit a transformer or something.
She's gone through periods of napping/not napping all summer. Not napping usually coincides with teeth, more frequent nursing and MOTN wake-ups. And we're doing all of that. She woke up twice in an hour last night between 1 and 2 and I thought I was going to die. Then up at 4:30 and refused her crib, so I put her in bed with me and she was out like a light. She already has her canines, it can't possibly be her next molars so soon? My kid's a shark.

I just booked a trip to Hawaii in the fall! I have to present at a conference but my husband is going to come and we're making a little vacation out of it. It'll be our first time in Hawaii and our first time away from L for more than one night... I'm excited!!

littlelion I hope the doctors can get a look at DS' ears soon - hopefully it's just an earwax problem and there is a quick fix. maplebaconbar Happy Birthday to your DD! Yay 4! billyhorrible Your boss sounds pretty cool! Hope you got some good deals during training mintyblueair Wohoo for Hawaii! Which island is your conference on? I looooove Hawaii so much - I think making a vacation out of your work trip is a great idea. As for us, we had a nice Tuesday! DS had a dentist appointment, and it went really well! The dentist was surprised he was so cooperative about letting her check around in his mouth. He got a balloon out of it, so he was happy. According to the dentist, his teeth look great - no cavities or any signs of rotting, good dental hygiene. I was a little worried, because I breast fed him (including lots of MOTN feedings) for 2 years, but I guess that turned out okay. He has all his baby teeth except for his top two 2yr molars. I think we'll throw a party once those come in and we don't have to worry about teething anymore 😅😀
