DH decided that I was right and we should have done a better job of hurricane prepping the beach house so he’s headed back down there now. It’s going to be pretty nice until the storm shows up tonight so I need to get the boys outside for a bit and then this afternoon I have a first meeting of a 3rd reopening committee I have been put on.
When we found out my niece and BIL had Covid, DH and I went and got tested. We hadn’t seen either of them in months but my nephew who also lives with them had been with us 6 days before. (We saw him July 18th and this was July 24th). Nephew got tested the same day and came back negative on the 21st so we weren’t worried after that. I just got my results (negative) yesterday and DH still doesn’t have his. As I’m reading my results, I learn they are pooling them so my sample was tested with 9 other people. If any of us had been positive, we would have all been reported as positive and told to retest. At this point, we were 15 days past that possible exposure and not sick so it wouldn’t have mattered but I’m super pissed the testing center did not explain this when I was there. I get that it’s saving materials (and allegedly time but I still waited 11 days) but seriously if I waited all this time and then was told I had to be retested and wait another 11 days, that’s bullshit. It also makes me wonder if when the state reports new cases, are they actual new cases or if say 3 groups of 10 are positive, are 30 people reported positive when it really may only be 3?

Yesterday ended with a nice little urgent care visit. Poor C fell off his bike basically face first. Fat lip, scrapped up chin. He kept saying his jaw hurts and he couldn't open his mouth much so MH took him just to make sure no fracture. Urgent care Dr said she thinks it looks ok but radiologist will check to make sure. He seems to be doing ok today though, just sore! Thankfully he had on a helmet!

Morning. Boring last day of vacation over here, Dh painted the nursery floors, we read books about mystical creatures, drew pictures, Dd got a manicure from me & I contacted a contractor about removing the concrete slab we have in our yard. The kids would under no circumstance play by themselves. I really really want to scale back amount of tv the kids are watching from 45 minutes every morning and evening and random times in between, to 45 minutes in the evening during weekdays plus 45 minutes in the morning on sat/sun. Also do any of your kids live life like they’re in a musical? Seriously ds sings trough 90 procent of his day, which is often cute, but often also very annoying .

That's ridiculous and kinda eyebrow-raising kim22 . I've heard of so many discrepancies in testing here, I really take the 'counts' with a grain of salt now. One example: People showing up to a testing site, filling out info, and then leaving before actually getting the test...then getting positive results in the mail. :head-scratch: A guy died in a motorcycle crash here recently and his death was listed as Covid; his family had to really push to get his death certificate, etc. changed. nam2013 C lives as if she's in a musical...thankfully she's off her Frozen kick and has moved on to female singers of the 70s/80s...Stevie Nicks "Edge of 17" is a new favorite, in addition to Pat Benetar of course wineallthetime Yikes! Poor kid. Glad he seems to be ok, hope the radiology scans come back clear.

flamingo The other thing annoying about the reporting is if someone is positive and has to get retested before returning to work, it is counted as another positive. So it makes the numbers higher. I know here in TX they were trying to work on this and also the reporting of deaths. Now they have to report it within 10 days or something like that where before it was when the death certificate was filed. And like you mentioned, if someone had was positive for covid when they died, it was being counted as a COVID death, regardless of it being related to the death or not. One would think we’d be able to accurately report these things in this day and age.

Morning!
DH has today off so he took our paperwork up to the HOA offices to have some exterior changes approved. We are adding shutters, putting up the new front doors, and removing a giant palm that sits awkwardly in the middle of the yard.
I just signed C up for ballet, starting next week. Does this make me a #dancemom? I'm irrationally excited. I think she's going to love it. B will start back with golf again next Monday so at least we'll have some fun classes to tide us over til school starts.

kim22 that is so frustrating. I'm with flamingo on the discrepancies. I don't trust numbers because I do think there is a lot of over reporting being done. There is definitely something scary going on and I'm not down playing that at all. But when you hear stories like yours or like flamingos with people getting positive results who weren't even tested, it's really frustrating. wineallthetime what a birthday for you! I'm glad she seems okay, but how scary! Nothing much going on here. Just work. I might get out and go for a walk soon, it's going to be unseasonably cool this week, highs in the upper 70s, which never happens, so I need to take advantage. Plus I've been so lazy since we went to the lake (and drank too much) that my step goal for the day is 5870. It used to be over 10k. I need to get off my lazy ass.

Just FYI- the getting a positive result after waiting in a long line and leaving before actually getting tested is a conspiracy theory. My coworker told it to me week before last and then that same weekend a bunch of people on GD all over the country said it’s floating on Social media and it’s always heard from a friend of a friend’s brother/ aunt/ whoever. I hate that things like that make it hard to know what’s true and what’s false. I do think there may be some crazy shit happening with numbers. For me in my area- I’m looking at hospitalization. Our hospitals have high numbers of positive cases now and Low ICU bed availability. That worries me more than how many new cases. I think other people have said the weekly averages are another indicator they rather go by than daily counts. ETA: Now in kim22 ‘s case. That is crazy! Testing as a whole with 10 other people? That is just BS and sounds unethical.

Hi!
I’m at work. Not a bad day so far. I need to call the furniture company because my sofa was supposed to be in end of July and it’s been crickets from them. I want my furniture!
I scheduled my floors to be done in three weeks. I was hoping to have them done next week, but his first availability was the following Monday. Boo.

Josie, Charlie and MH sing all day long. Nonsense, made up songs (like Marshall in How I Met Your Mother). Josie also just figured out she can whistle. It’s loud over here.

The made up songs turn in to full blown opera’s about eating crackers, putting on socks and why mommy doesn’t want to make the 11th snack that hour .

nam2013 I read kids who sing a lot are happy so as annoying as it may be, I guess it’s a good thing. C has fallen in love with Frozen 2 and makes us tie his Elmo blanket around him to look like Elsa’s cape. He sings that spirit voice that goes ahhahhahh. I wish he’d learn the actual songs 😂 I tried to show him the original Frozen but he gets mad and says that’s not Elsa.

What tgrimes mentioned is happening, too. Heart attack and stroke deaths are down nationwide by 40%. Cardiologists say it's just not possible...a percentage point or two, sure, but 40%? People are still dying from these things and it's not being accurately attributed. Why is that? A nurse here in FL died in April. She experienced symptoms and initially tested negative for Covid. Was hospitalized and treated for Covid anyway. Death counted as Covid. Autopsy revealed she did not have Covid at all, and instead died from a severe kidney infection that led to sepsis. I assume the kidney thing was overlooked b/c of her presumptive Covid status? That's terrifying. None of this is to say that people aren't getting sick and/or dying, but I do think the numbers are being skewed and it's very difficult *for me* to trust reporting when that is the case.

I don't have any plans at this point. Going to exercise now and even though it's hot I think I'll make crackpot veggie pot pie because that takes almost no effort.

The pedi called me and is prescribing H steroids for croup. I called daycare and asked if anyone else was sick. The receptionist said not that she was aware of but she’d speak to the director, who was in a meeting at that time. Well, H doesn’t go anywhere other than daycare, so he had to have picked it up there. 🤷🏼♀️

@wine, scary! I’m glad C is okay. How is H this morning, tgrimes? Seems fine other than a random cough. He got worked up last night when he peed the bed and I had to change the sheets. The hoarseness and barky cough we’re pretty bad. So far today I’ve heard the strider a few times when he breathes deeply, but still no fever. Thanks for asking.
