I just submitted a grant that I have a very high likelihood of getting. I won't hear back for a few weeks, but I'm just proud of myself for getting it in and giddy at the thought of getting the money.

I am now changing my title from: Financial Analyst To: Miracle Worker Because that's what these people want me to do with their budgets.

Our county just got designed to yellow zone by the governor, which now requires 20% of the student population to be tested weekly (less invasive rapid test) in order to stay open in the hybrid model. This seems extreme, especially for my 5yo that freaks out with the doctor and nurses she’s known for years. Our school district is waiting on a lot of answers from the state but I’m really not sure how this will go and have a feeling lots of parents will opt out, forcing the schools to close. I wish we had this. We aren’t getting tested at all (students or staff) and our state officials have made it clear that they don’t intend to test us ever. I would feel a lot more comfortable with students in my classroom every day if we weren’t doing this with no information.

jnu76, MH's district isn't testing either, and it's very nerve wracking.

jnu76, MH's district isn't testing either, and it's very nerve wracking. If they don’t test, they can pretend it’s not there. Our governor has made it clear that he won’t support schools going remote even if community spread is high.

I'm sorry you guys are dealing with crappy Governors.
Ours just posted these in the last few days. Thankful we have him advocating for science and being responsible adults (though, that doesn't mean that people still aren't choosing to be senseless)
He also posted something encouraging people to shop local for the holiday season to help boost the local economy and small businesses. ♥️

Ooof. I just had my first employee test positive for COVID. We were super lucky that she wasn't at work during her infectious period. Like really lucky. She found out her close contact had COVID the night before coming into work and she was supposed to work in production. If her contact hadn't get their positive result until the next day, I would be without my entire production crew for a week and a half while everyone quarantined. I feel like it's just a matter of time until we get a positive case within my crew and I have no idea how to plan for that besides crossing my fingers and hoping for the best (I have a strong faith in our COVID procedures to prevent workplace-spread. I'm talking about mitigating the risk to losing whole chunks of my staff to quarantine).

The weird thing is that my governor has been responsible about everything else. There are strict limits on gatherings, mask requirements, 14 day quarantine if you travel almost everywhere- except schools. He wants schools fully open, apparently no matter what. He recently argued that we should ditch our hybrid models and fully reopen because spread in schools is low. I would argue that spread in schools is low because the distancing that we can only do in a hybrid setting is working. Just once it would be nice for them to acknowledge that if what we’re doing is working that it means we’re doing a good job protecting and teaching kids at the same time, not that if the kids are safe there must not be a risk and we’re hurting the kids by believing that the risks are real instead of rushing them back into crowded classrooms. I don’t know why he thinks that we wouldn’t all prefer to get back to normal. Teaching in a hybrid or remote setting is incredibly difficult and exponentially more work than having all of the kids in person at the same time. Keeping kids masked and distanced, working with restrictions (teaching chorus when you can’t sing indoors, or art when you can’t share supplies, or any other subject- the number of restrictions is huge) and still making sure there’s joy in the classroom is hard, but we’re doing it. Teaching the kids in front of you and the ones at home simultaneously is not easier than regular school. We’re not pushing for hybrid because we’re lazy- we’re doing it to keep the kids safe. If we were lazy we would pretend that everything was fine and go back to business as usual. But we actually care about the safety of our students, so we’ll do what we need to do and try to ignore our leaders accusing us of not putting the kids first. Sorry. Rant over.

S took the girls mountain biking with friends ( in our bubble). Apparently, it's a "Dad thing" and I am not invited, so I decided an epsom salt bath and Schitts Creek was the best way to spend my alone time.

I scored a baby carrier from a sample sale and it reminded me of old times in here when we'd be rushing to get the latest diaper or carrier releases.

You know, not feeling really good about school staying open when R’s teacher just sent home enough work to get us to Christmas break. 😬😬
Definitely loving the proactive take to it though! If we do close, at least we’ll be much more prepared than last year.

We're going skiing tomorrow and I'm actually going to rent skis this time (I normally snowboard). If I end up picking it back up easily, I may consider switching back since everyone else skis and it would be easier to stick together and help the kids.

Oh shit. We just got a huge spike in our county. I live around the corner from a hospital and I just saw a post from one of the ER doctors saying that 50% of his patients today tested positive and that our hospital is getting overwhelmed. Like. I live in Vermont. In the *safest* COVID state in the country. I want a lockdown now.

I got an email today from the school district and due to the # of cases they are closing all the schools until the 2nd wk of December, at least. Everyone is going full-remote. Our county is having a huge increase in cases and the hospital is cancelling all non-essential procedures. Our neighbors are quaranting because the dad tested positive last week, thankfully we haven't interacted with them in awhile.

Honestly feels like we should lockdown until January.*
*this statement is only about safety/health. I understand people can’t live without paychecks for months. Our do-nothing senate needs to get off its ass.

Have any of you been students since becoming parents? I’m thinking about going back to university next semester. It’ll all be online and I’m nervous about juggling the workload while having my kids at home and still trying to work part-time.

I did end up having to drop my class this quarter because it was a really hard class & I wasn’t coping, but otherwise it’s been a really good experience. Would you be able to start with only one class for a quarter and see how it goes balancing it with everything else?

charlotte, I think I will probably just start with a class or two to see how it goes. That way I’ll be able to pay for them myself rather than taking out a loan.

It was not easy with 2 working, plus 2 kids. And we paid cash for each class, no loans or reimbursement. Start with 1 class. Especially if it's a shorter program. I think his were 8 week classes, once a week for like 3 or 4 hours? But then it involved a lot of online work each week.

I'm all of the sudden in a total clean/organize/decorate mood, but also like, we're semi regularly going to see houses so I have no clue if we're going to be here for another 2 months or another 2 years. How do I decide how much to do in that time? Lol

How do I decide how much to do in that time? Lol I bought a set of shelves and completely re-organized the book/toy/homeschool disaster in our living room about a month before we listed the house. It was a modular ikea set up. We took about half of it with us when we moved, sold some, and left some for the buyer (they were okay with us leaving some things behind). Make the house you have now work for you now. Worry about what to do with it when you move if you move.

My gosh. When do kids stop constantly interrupting and talking over other people? J and I have been trying to have the same conversation all day long.

We had family pictures taken a few weeks ago and I love how they turned out so much that I can’t decide which ones I want to hang. J is being so grumpy about how grey and old he looks that I’m ready to just pick the ones of me and the kids.

My gosh. When do kids stop constantly interrupting and talking over other people? J and I have been trying to have the same conversation all day long. It's so utterly maddening. Especially when I really just want to vent about something and DH is interested in supporting me, but not so much the story. I can't hold his attention if the kids are all, "Mom, mom, mom, Mom, MOM, MOOOOOOMMMMMMM. Did you know that my hand has blue marker on it?"
