Before the pandemic I primary exercised in a gym and would use my phone and the headphones that came with it. Now that I’m primarily exercising outside I’d like to find a watch that I could listen to podcasts and music on with wireless headphones. Is it as simple as using an Apple Watch and their headphones? Is there something better or a specific version I should stay away from? I primarily run and bike.

Apple watches need your phone to run GPS from (I believe, that might have been updated since that first was a complaint a couple years ago).
H has the Garmin Vivoactive 3 Music and he leaves his phone at home when he runs because he can load music and podcasts right to his watch. We both wear After Shokz wireless headphones. They're jawbone conduction so your ears are open to hear your surroundings. He has no problem connecting his watch to his headphones.
I'm a die hard Garmin fo lyf person. I've been running for 20 years now and doing triathlons for upwards of a decade too and Garmin is the best I've used over the years.

Thank you so much for the thoughtful response. I mostly listen to music and podcasts so it looks like I’ll need to keep my phone.

I have an Apple Watch and some Bluetooth headphones from Amazon. I use them to run. What I’ve read says you can download a few podcasts to run without data if you need (our trails are very spotty). So far I haven’t done it. I run, listen to Pandora, and use MapMyRun, so the GPS function is there. I leave my phone at home (that’s why I wanted the watch!)

We are also a Garmin and After Shokz household and it they work great.

Can I load peloton workouts on there? Is it compatible with Apple podcasts and music? I’m not very good with technology. How difficult is it to sink music, watch and headphones?
