So when I saw this yesterday I was taken aback by the wearing of the kente cloth. I didn't know if it was performative or what. So I started looking to see the responses I could find. And was happy to find this thread. And I learned something! It's my understanding that the Congressional Black Caucus asked them to wear Kente cloth. That seems different than donning it merely to be performative or insulting.

Uncaripswife yeah I didn't know the context of why they wore the kente cloth which is why I looked into it. Thanks for sharing that the black caucus asked for it, that's even better. And to clarify the thread is saying that what Nancy did was not performative. It was in response to a tweet that asked when Nancy bought her kente cloth off Amazon.

Thanks for that article. I cringed a bit when I saw them wearing it but I hoped there was a reason behind it. I’m so glad there is.

Missouri should be ashamed of itself, Josh is such a tumble down 50 flights of stairs from Claire.
He mad that Planned Parenthood apparently got fed funding under CARES, but they were ineligible

In case anyone is following the Lori Vallow case here. They have served a search warrant on Chads house, they are digging up the ground.

Just to be clear - I think Black people can fairly critique the gesture even if it was suggested by Rep Bass.
White people need to sit this one out. Unless they are going hard for mainstream cultural appropriation day in and day out, I guess.

Unless they are going hard for mainstream cultural appropriation day in and day out, I guess. Agreed. I was at least happy to see that it wasn't just an "oh let's wear Kente cloth because black people!" Kind of thing, because my natural reaction was to cringe. Edited for autocorrect typo

To be fair, a recession can only be stated once you have 2 negative quarters of flat or no GDP growth. So hearing that it started in Feb isn't a huge surprise.
Edit: I fully expect this *waves hands around* will wind up being classified as a depression, which is 8 quarters of negative or flat growth in the economy.
Part of the fallout of 40 million unemployed, but having COVID unemployment is that once states reopen, and people go back to work, the layoffs will come. So, it's going to take a while.

My state had a primary today. It was all Republican because there's either no Democrat on the ballot or the Democratic candidate is running unopposed (like Jaime Harrison). My state senator has an extremist primary challenger so I'm anxious to see that result. I'm not super enthusiastic about our incumbent but he seems like a decent guy and he's not totally crazy, and I think he's pretty responsive when contacted and transparent about how he votes.
Lindsey Graham had three challengers and I'm very interested to see the spread.
And one of the dudes running for County Council rode his golf cart through my neighborhood all day. I voted for the incumbent because he's pretty reasonable.
