Well I lost my sense of taste and am feeling under the weather so I’m getting tested for Corona tomorrow. I barely go out anywhere, and wear a mask and cases are low here so maybe it’s something else. 🤷🏼♀️ I figure I’d better get tested since we hung out with my mom a few days ago.
Aside from that we had our last day of school this week. It’s felt like summer holidays for a while now and not much will change in our routine. They have said in September it will be home based or a part time in school

curmudgeon you've been on my mind! so glad to hear from you and that all is well especially with TX's rising CV cases. That's insanity with all you have going on. Congratulations on your house sale too. Must have been quick. Didn't you just move? Can't remember if it was shortly before or after DS2? What's the ETA for your build? Is it part of a new neighborhood or your own plans? They've broken ground on a new sub-D right next to ours which a lot of the townsfolk are angry about. It's crazy how fast they are building new houses. Ooff! to no DW! I never had one until I moved here and being single was NBD but with a family it's like essential. Only thing I have is to keep up with washing even 1 spoon and don't feel compelled to stack. Keep us updated. So we moved about 3 years ago and I did not want this house and was totally against it. We knew it wasn’t our forever home and H still insisted so here we are. House prices keep increasing around here and Id rather have DS1 change schools now instead of years down the road when it’s harder to be the new kid. We had multiple offers on the house after 2 days on the market. I was not expecting that! New build is projected for just before Thanksgiving. It’s a planned neighborhood about 30 min away and I’m hoping they can throw it up faster than projected. H and I lived in a studio apartment with 2 dogs and no dishwasher about 8 years ago, so if we could survive that I’m hoping this won’t be quite as bad. As long as I have central AC I should be ok.

August Blooms Oh no about feeling sick and losing your sense of taste? How about smell? Hope you don’t have COVID - the quarantine and everything that comes with it is not fun. Also - you are completely right about the Totoro parenting style. H and I were like, wtf - how can the dad just let 4 year old Mei play around all day and then not notice when she’s missing? Satauki is responsible elder sibling goals. curmudgeon That’s a whole lot of stuff going on at once! Good luck with the new job and getting the new house built. Sending T&Ps for your temporary housing situation - I am sure it will be fine. And now you will have your own place come thanksgiving! Excited for you! duskymonkey Awesome bike! So jealous. It’s way too dangerous to bike where we live, but I have these fantasies of moving back to the USA and biking all the time later in life . Also, no worries at all about the snow! It was fun for DS1, and it was easy to hose away. I like that it dissolved completely (no clogging of the 2 drains we have on our balcony). You were right though - a little snow goes a long way! CoachTsWife That is so hard about finding a new DCP, and I think you should go with your gut. If a place ticks all the boxes, but doesn’t feel right - keep searching! If you do go forward with PT - I love the “Oh Crap!” PT book. One thing she says in the book - which I’ve found to be true with my kids - is that your kids don’t have to really “want” or express interest in PT. Kids 2 and older are generally able to do it - where I live, all Chinese families I know have their kids PT by 20-24 months. Nothing special about Chinese genetics and PT. It’s just a cultural thing I think.

Sorry I’ve been MIA - we decided to do some domestic tourism last week (we went to the mountains), and it was awesome. We were the only people at so many attractions - wineries, learning farms, restaurants, scenic areas, etc. the kids had a great time, and it was nice to get out of the city again before school starts up in July.
Despite all that, I’m still really bummed that we can’t go to the USA this summer. Thinking about not seeing our families for over a year, not going to our home state, not enjoying the nice summer weather - ugh. And, with the virus spreading so badly in the USA, I am pretty skeptical that we will be able to return at all in 2020. I guess we’ll just wait and see what happens.
At least I feel very fortunate that our country hasn’t had a local transmission case for over 30 days now. So - local travel and activities will have to keep our spirits up until things get figured out.

Oh August Blooms I hope it’s something else and not Covid. Allergies maybe? Nope, took sinus meds and allergy meds and they didn’t do a thing. I was really avoiding getting tested and wanted to rule anything out before they shoved that q tip up to my brain.

Taitai And the dad just goes into the city to work? And is late and it’s totally cool the kids are just waiting at the bus stop? That sounds like such a great trip for you guys to be able to enjoy things without all the crowds. Even if it’s not Covid, I’m very 🤔 about where I could I have got sick. I wear a mask, wash my hands and don’t really go anywhere. It’s a mystery.

Same issues with Panyo, which is another one you should watch. The teachers basically let this 5 year old walk home alone in a tropical storm during the beginning of the movie, like its NBD 😂🤣 Hope you get the test result back soon. curmudgeon 5 days sounds like such a long time! Many places here in Asia are less than a 24 hour turnaround.

So we toured another in-home daycare and we had much better vibes. Like the other one we toured, she's on opposite ends of town (like 20 minutes away) from where DS1 is attending preschool. And she's moving even further away! Ugh. But her home is very nice, the daycare area is HUGE, and we felt very comfortable/at-home with her. We drove by where they're moving to and that house is also really big/nice so I'm confident the daycare area would be very comparable to what she has now. Plus DS2's little buddy from our old DCP is there, so DS2 would have at least 1 familiar face.
But having 2 drop-offs that far away will be pretty difficult long-term. I just mapped the drive and I'd spend 49 minutes in the car each morning and evening doing drop-offs and pick-ups, and my job is less than 15 minutes away. That isn't including the actual drop-off which will add time obv. IDK if we can do that for a whole year until DS1 goes to K, which is really close to our house. I am contemplating keeping DS2 home with me while I WFH until a spot opens at DS1's preschool. But that is assuming a spot will open up in the next 3 months or so, we can get him PTed, and that I will be WFH for the foreseeable future. That's A LOT to assume. Anyone have a crystal ball I can borrow?

The girls and I just got back from a week at my parents. It was different since we weren’t going out to places like normal but also super relaxing just to swim, eat lots of ice cream, and have three other people (including my grandma) to entertain the girls. I even finished two books! We even managed to find some playgrounds not in use (country school playgrounds for the win!)
I do feel like I need a three day nap though. I sleep so much better in my own bed that I will be taking a much needed nap today!

curmudgeon I got the results back and they were negative. I got a test within 24 hours of asking for one and it was almost 32 hours after being tested until I saw my results. They’ve really ramped up the system here to be able to accommodate a large amount of tests. We have less than 200 cases a day consistently and most are in the densely populated urban areas and another region that has a lot of migrant farm workers. But they should have that under control shortly since they just did mass testing.

CoachTsWife That is so stressful, and a lot of driving around if you choose that provider. Could you keep working from home until a spot opens? I am also stressed about the daycare situation here.

CoachTsWife That is so stressful, and a lot of driving around if you choose that provider. Could you keep working from home until a spot opens? I am also stressed about the daycare situation here. I can likely request to stay home even after we are supposed to return to the office (whenever that happens) due to daycare issues but I don't know how long they'd let me do that. If I knew I'd be WFH through the end of 2020 I think I'd just wait it out and see if we can get a spot at DS1's preschool. My company has been very accommodating to parents through this whole thing and I think they will continue to be, but there's no guarantee.
But then I also feel like DS2 deserves to be in an in-home setting, vs a more school-like setting, for a little longer. The in-home provider we found we REALLY like but she's so far away, it's frustrating. I truly do not know what to do.

The first two days of the new job kicked my ass. I am such an introvert and back to back to back meetings and meet n greets and 3 hour calls. Oh my gosh. I need to hide in a dark room and decompress. I want to do actual work!

I want to do actual work! Starting a new job is always difficult! Especially that meeting everyone and drinking from the firehose phase. Hope that you will get to the actual work soon - do your co-workers seem alright? Are you working from home, or do you have to go into an office?

But I’ve been waiting to come back and the opportunity for a FT permanent role finally presented itself. So a lot of these people I already know and have worked with before! It’s WFH which is so nice after an hour commute each way.
