And starting the week off with a new Karen.
Everybody see this bullshit with Amy Cooper? Another white woman using her white lady tears to threaten the life of a black man. Awesome.
But don't worry she apologized and started her apology with "I'm not a racist."

This was a good read on the "white space" and breaks down experiences like Christian Cooper's-

I hadn't seen the Amy Cooper thing yet. Jesus. She has such a sense of her own superiority. Like the rules don't even apply to her. And she's got centuries of white supremacy backing her up.

Just watched "the Amy Cooper video" and read an article. Looks like its all over the media today. Yikes. What I don't get is if they both feel threatened (bird watcher) and (dog handler) why don't they just separate and go their own ways and instead of recording and calling the cops? The whole things seems messy and I don't like it.

I read this morning that he may have had treats to get the dog to come toward him, which he maybe shouldn't have done. But his issue was her dog was off leash in a bird sanctuary. By calling the police (when she was breaking the law), she could have gotten him killed.

I am so glad this woman is getting roasted through social media and that she got put on leave from her job. She was totally entitled and was only asked to put her dog on a leash. She figured the cops would be on her side since she's a white woman. And that poor man was probably scared not knowing what kind of cops would show up. I'm glad he filmed it. I saw a comment that said "Karens need to learn that 911 is not their customer service line."

She has also been suspended from her job at Franklin Templeton. And hopefully she will be charged with making a false police report. Thank god he was filming.

Even if she had not been a racist pos- he could have filmed her to show police she was breaking the law. That aint messy. She was the one breaking the law. She also apparently has been recognized as someone who ignores the leash laws. and in NYC leash laws are important as there is so much limited space. I agree she should have walked away. Because he was doing something in that space and she invaded it and took it over with her whiteness and threatened his life and really the lives of any other black men I. That area at the time by calling the NYPD to the area with screams and cries.

It sounds like this off leash dog thing is a common issue that birders deal with (who knew?) so that’s why he had the treats. Which is good intentioned of him but he probably didn’t consider that some dogs have allergies (also a who knew situation). I’ve had someone try to give my dog with an allergy a treat and it’s nbd. I just say no thanks. But yeah, she was definitely breaking the law and got caught and saw an opportunity to use her whiteness to play victim. Disgusting.

Amy Cooper knew exactly what she was doing calling the cops about the black man in the Ramble. How many times did she make sure to mention his blackness in that 10 second call?

I saw that she could get prosecuted for faking a crime. She probably won't though because white lady privilege is powerful.

Wow. This is such a painful situation for the family. Years ago there was a number of twitter accounts using a picture of Kate Steinle (woman murdered in SF by an undocumented person with a stolen gun - the case was mentioned by Trump over and over when discussing his wall) and spewing awful stuff. It was so painful for her friends and family and it was impossible to get Twitter to do anything about it.

She just got the dog? She has history of leash violations. He had treats. Plus adding the racial comments to her call. Don’t like it. I feel like something is off here. Kinda like that couple and homeless man giving his money for gas thing. I don’t want to downplay racism because it exists and Karen’s need to be put in their place.
Like NYC isn’t dealing with enough to add this racist bullshit to it.
Our neighbor has a history of letting her dogs run free (2 bigger dogs 60-70lbs I’m guessing). They’ve ran into our yard numerous times and scared the kids. I asked her to keep them “in control” or on leash and she told me “she’s a vet tech and her dogs are nice” essentially saying I have to deal with it. I’m upset but not going to call the cops because I don’t want to start something. (Although I know I need to because of documentation should something happen).

Are you suggesting that they're in on this together to get attention? It seems pretty straightforward. A black man who has seen repeatedly how little, innocent confrontations with white people can go sideways for black men decided that he needed to record her as she was approaching him and getting into his face. This recording is for his own protection, because if it comes down to his word versus hers he knows that he's at a massive disadvantage.

I've watched the Amy Cooper video a few times and her intentions are clear. She calls the police and when they don't seem to take her seriously, she turns on the tears. She gets louder and her voice goes up to make it seem like an emergency.

Of course he has the treats to keep off-leash dogs from going after birds.

I feel awful for the man just trying to enjoy his day watching birds to have the cops called on him. Do we know if the cops responded and what the outcome was? No question what she did was wrong. I don’t understand why she stayed in the area to make the call to have him record it. It seems off to me probably because I’m an avoider type of person. If someone did something to me I’d just ask nice or leave even if I was “ in the right.” Eta: that goes for any person. They both could have left.

I'm not sure I'm understanding what you don't like. That this white woman reflexively fell back on the "Black men are violent and scary" trope that leads to actual Black men being killed? I don't like that either. What feels off to you? It sounds like you are doubting Christian Cooper's account. Which means you are privileged enough to never have experienced this (over and over and over again).

And there's a well documented background of white people (and white women especially) calling the cops on POC (especially black men) for things that absolutely are not emergencies or in any way the purview of the police department. Like they are complaining to management. She absolutely knew what she was doing. It was calculated and targeted. And he was recording it because he knew that too. He was protecting himself. He very likely would have been arrested just on her say so.
