We live in a purple state that unfortunately went red last election. We also live in a deeply red county. I don't think we would move to a blue state just for being a blue state. Plus our whole family is here. DH is more of an independent who leans liberal while I say I am mostly liberal. I would like to move to a blue county or at least closer to one. But that has more to being out of the rural area where there are less opportunities and closer to a bigger city.

I live in a very red section of NY, NYC and the metro areas are what seems to keep us blue. I would not consider moving to a bluer part of the state or blue state. My entire family is here and we bought a house. We typically live by "be the change you want to see" and all that so moving to an echo chamber would be very counterproductive and unhelpful to me.

Same, @heartbot. I've only ever lived in Texas, so I'm not sure if I'd ever move anywhere else. You'll face assholes no matter where you go, so I just try to do my part in educating others.

I'm a true blue in Florida so yeah...big blue dot, red state. I lived in Massachusetts for a couple of years and it was pretty great, I'd move back there in a heartbeat if I could, (for the politics and many other reasons). On the plus side, being in a red state, at least I have the opportunity to "counter" a red vote. Not that it works exactly that way.

I live in a Blue State but very red area (to put it in perspective there's like 50 pages of registered republicans to like 5 of registered democrats). Politics has been a very hard issue for me to overcome living where we are because there is a lot that I don't agree with.
ETA: when I say very red area many are Trump supporters who are still showing their support for him. There are some Republicans that are much more moderate and really pick a party line just to vote in primaries.

We live in a red state and county and I am always thinking about moving somewhere more
We've had this conversation several times in our house. We live in a swing state but I think of us as red. I don't want to move because being near family is very important. MH's family lives in another state in a blue dot college-town surrounded by red. He talks all the time about how diverse it was growing up. However we both teach and the COL in this town would be significantly higher, which is why we're staying put.
We both work in a more diverse and blue county than we live, so our daughter will go to school where we work. We both worry about what she may hear and be exposed to since we are in a conservative area, but I hope the silver lining will be that we can have those important, hard conversations that teach her to be open-minded and stick up for others in a more organic way. With that said, no matter where we live, I'm sure that we will try to make this a part of many conversations as we make her aware of what is going on in our world in an age-appropriate way.
I think it's a bigger deal to my husband, I point out that I grew up here and came from a pretty close-minded family and think very different than they do. Like others have said, I hope that we continue to trend blue as younger generations are able to vote.

I live in a VERY blue city in a mostly blue county. My state swings red and blue, but state population is aging and we're alll kinds of red right now.
All the red at the state level is affecting my career, so I have considered getting the fuck out. Even though I've lived here all my life.
Of course, once upon a time, I said I wouldn't live in a country where Trump could be president and I'm still here...

This is an interesting discussion. I live in a very diverse purple area of a purple state. We've gone blue in all state-wide elections over the last 15 years, but our state legislature is still majority Republican. This leads to some fights with the Governor's office. I grew up in a very red area and was not exposed to diversity. I want my daughter's experience to be different, so we will stay here.

I live in VA which has been blue the last several elections but only because of NOVA. I live in a smallish town that is a little more blue than the red red red county and surrounding rural areas. My family is a force in the local democratic scene. It's never really bothered me to live in a conservative area other than a lot of 🙄. Now that I have a toddler and meet new moms a lot, it kinda sucks because they are typically uber conservative (and religious) which is...not me.

I'm a little blue dot in the red state of TN. We moved here from a red state due to work and that would be the likely reason we would move again. I'm excited to have the chance to vote out one of the biggest Trumpiest idiots in the House since she is my rep.
I think the big thing to remember is you probably are not the only blue dot. Getting involved at the local level is key. Get involved with your local DNC, indivisible chapter, or some other resistance group on FB. It helps to know that you are not alone and don't underestimate the difference we are making.

A la @heartbot, I was born and raised in Texas. (Except for living in LA for three years as a child) I daydream of moving to a blue state, but I don't plan to. Both of our families are here. I hate the cold. My employer is only in TX so I wouldn't be able to keep my job. I'm staying. I live in the Austin area-ish, so not as bad.

I'm from Texas, born, raised, my entire family is here. I lived in a couple of blue states for several years after college, but we moved back here a few years ago to be closer to family. To a blue city, at least, thank god. I get extremely frustrated with the politics, but at the same time, I feel like I have to stay and try to fend off the assholes currently in charge. This is my state, goddammit. Greg Abbott and his band of bass-ackward fucknuggets are not going to run me off. This is me too. I am from Texas and live in a very small town. I get very angry when I listen to the locals talk politics, but they also get angry that a liberal is in "their" neck of the woods. I feel like if I left, they would feel accomplished that they ran me off. This town is getting bigger and I have seen more liberals move here, so I think there is some hope for Texas. I love Texas and it's beautiful here. I have no desire to move elsewhere. I would rather be the change that Texas needs.

I'm in Ohio but in a VERY red county. I have thought about moving to a certain city and part of that reason is because the overall political climate would more line up to my beliefs. It would not be my sole reason for moving though. Does the certain city rhyme with Scmolumbus?

I live in a red state, but blue county. Like @jboogie, as a red state I worry not enough is being spent on infrastructure, education, etc and that will affect my kids directly. Many of my kids friends have trump supporting parents. It's hard, but I can likely do more here to change minds than in a blue state where I'm in a bubble.
