My rant for today: H's service plan meeting for his IEP is later this month. The school district sent me a document to fill out before hand by his teacher. Well, his teacher is no longer at the school so I'm filling it out. It baffles me that they don't have a document that is age appropriate. This is definitely for K-12. I have content areas of reading, written expression, math, science & social studies. Then i have to list areas of strength and areas of need. Ummmm, he's 3. WTF am I supposed to put in the science and social studies columns? I emailed my case manager and she said this document had to be filled out and could not be left blank to move forward. I googled, of course, for age 3 guidelines and came across some great things in terms of social & emotional behavior, interactions with others and communication. You'll be shocked to know that none of what I found on google included science or social studies. I'm just going to leave those blank and then submit my own document with everything else. This system is so flawed. Weird. I can’t recall ours having that at all. Are they planning on trying to move him to a public preschool/pre-K if things are back to normal in the Fall?

No. Our public pre-k is a lottery and he wouldn't be eligible for that until next year because of his birthday. Even then, the eligible tuition based slots are minimal, so I doubt we'd get in.

tgrimes, I know we discussed this before, but if I recall, your H is very similar to my B. What services do you have for him? Do you think they are helping him? B has come so so far educationally - he's talking like crazy, knows letters, numbers etc. but his behavior, in my opinion is that of a 2 year old or very very young 3 year old, not an almost 4 year old. I honestly don't really think he needs speech, however, I'm not sure what services he would get for immaturity? is that even a thing? That is my biggest concern with him moving forward - he is supposed to start K in September 2021 and he seems so so far from that to me.

He only gets speech therapy, but a lot of the goals they have set for him were things like following 2 step directions and identifying objects. He can do all of that now and has a million words, you just can't understand what he's saying most of time. Even his speech therapist said he only had issues with pronunciation. With that being said, I believe there is something they can be evaluated on, in terms of behavior. I was discussing it in a SC group with some N16ers awhile back but I can't remember what it's called. I'll ask them and get back to you. I agree, H is very far behind other kids in his class in terms of behavior. It's kind of embarrassing.

Not tgrimes, but it’s possible that a social/emotional delay that is caused developmental disorders would qualify. tgrimes it sounds like they don’t have an ECE special Ed program in your district, or if they do he wouldn’t be placed there because they don’t think his needs can’t be met in general Ed, is that it?

jewels It's called a functional behavior assessment. It's done over an extended period of time by a neutral party. They record what happens before, during and after a behavior. You then want/get a behavior intervention plan. ETA: This also qualifies as an IEP.

Thanks Yeah - we stopped doing the preschool zoom meetings b/c we unenrolled, but when he was doing them, everyone was paying attention and participating and B was making funny faces and not doing what was asked. I was always on the other end of the spectrum w/ S so it's hard for me to watch it.

just got it tgrimes - thanks!! I will check it all out. I also just found out he got into the public PreK for next year here. I feel like they would be better able to assess where he's at, and hopefully help him, but it's only a half day program so we'd have to hire a nanny. Not sure about all that and how it would work esp with no idea what will happen with school in general next year.

Flat teacher is missing. It's a complete shit show over here now because apparently she was soooo important to Cadence. If she was so important then how do you not know where she is??
Who wants to bet mh threw it away?? I threw it out there as a joke, but now I'm really wondering if he did. LOL

LOL Oh no... give her a magnifying glass and a old trench coat, take pictures of her being detective, investigating a case of a missing teacher. I would say you’d get an A+ on the assignment 😉.

Cadence's teacher sent all the kids a flat teacher. It's basically a laminated paper doll of herself. Cadence is supposed to take pictures of herself doing things with her. Sounds annoying, but my kid now has a friend to do things with, so I'm seeing how long the excitement lasts. Our teacher did that too. C ripped her arms off. I was slightly disturbed.

wedding, also, if it makes you feel better, a couple months ago when I was cleaning Cass' room I found a ton of Barbie parts--beheaded Barbies, armless Barbies, torsos, you name it. I had a chat with her about being Sid (Toy Story 1).

Hi hi - blerg another day. I'm feeling like we are never getting out of this. Camp is cancelled and work announced a hold on retirement contributions for next year as well as offering voluntary furloughs and pay reductions. I'm not sure if people are going to volunteer or be "voluntold" to participate. My team is essential and are super busy, so I doubt I'm impacted in that regard.
I am pretty pleased with my painting project from the weekend, granted I'm really bad at painting, so hopefully no one ever inspects the trim and ceiling.

Best call home ever today. I called one of my students and her 3 year old sister answered the phone. I tell her I’m K’s teacher and ask if K is home. Kid tells me yes she’s home. I ask to talk to her and kid tells me her doll is missing. I ask if her mom and dad are home and she tells me mom is home but not dad. I ask for mom and kid tells me that also her dog is missing. Then I ask for J, another older sister I know from my school. She tells me J is also home but she can’t get her because “I’m in my bed, playing with my iPod (mom’s phone). We chat for a few minutes and then I tell her I’m going to go. I hang up and email my student and her mom. I called back an hour later and the little girl answers again but this time gives the phone to the sister. There are 2 kids younger than this kid I spoke to and mom is pregnant. I can imagine this happening to me with C right now.

Right before we got home I remembered we were scheduled to do a birthday parade for M’s teacher today. Her birthday is in June, but we were set to celebrate this month, so our assistant teacher set it up for us to surprise her with a parade this evening. It was cute. M decorated two posters- one for the car and one to give to her. It was only about 14 students that participated, but she was happy to see them.
When M2 saw me eating chips and salsa earlier he requested tacos. That was not on the menu tonight and he just pitched a fit about the quesadilla I made him with the chicken we are having. After about 10 minutes he started eating and is devouring it. Mom-1,M2-0. 😈
