Hi. Doing some schoolwork with T while C naps. I told my kids yesterday that I was picking something each of them loves and doing it with them. I shot hockey pucks with DS1, had a bridge race with DD (which was hysterical because not only has it been at least 15 years since I’ve done a bridge, but I also had some white claws before it), played soccer with T, and then C does everything I do all the time anyway.
Does anyone use toddle window safety things you can recommend? I was working this morning and C and T were playing in their room. All of the sudden, I heard C yelling to a friend who was walking by (he knows her well) but he had opened (unlocked and pushed it up) the window. We have those safety things where they can only push them up so far but they are higher than I’d like and he could still totally fall out with them on. The room is small so T’s bed has to be under the window to fit. I want to move C to a bed but I don’t trust that one. Do I need steel bars like a jail or there is something better?

I cannot wait to give my parents hugs. I kind of refrained when I was down there in mid-March (to buy the house), but now we’ll be living together for 3 weeks so...🤷🏻♀️ We’re throwing caution to the wind 😂

kim22 we just had a one of those hotel chains on the kids windows, very sturdy ones, in their old rooms.

And my in laws are definitely huggers.

Hi girls.
Happy belated Mother’s Day. I am so thankful for all of you, your friendship, and for everything you’ve done to make me a better mom. You’re all such an inspiration.
We have X’s IEP this afternoon. Nothing exciting expected, but my stomach is in knots over it for some reason.
I was able to get him in for private ST through our insurance starting tomorrow, so hopefully that helps a bit until he’s back to his regular school schedule.

mwhip, I’m sorry for the rough day! @nam, what’s sweet sensitive soul DS is. We live far from everyone so we see our families very sporadically, but there’s been a concerted effort to FaceTime, zoom meet up, etc. We actually see both sides of the family at least once a week, if not more. And it’s certainly a lot more than we ever saw them in person.

Good news on the private ST, cagoldi. Wull they come to your house? As for the summer, we haven’t heard anything about camps yet. The town next to ours canceled both their private and parks and rec camp. I just want the beach to be open.

I just want the beach to be open. They will not come out, I will need to take him. I was actually just thinking about camp because as far as we know they are still planning to hold the one we attend through the public school, but if all the places are not open where they would usually do field trips and activities that will be rough.

I definitely had something for my daredevil. He figured out those buttons that allow it not to open too much very quickly. I bought these bars first but couldn't get a proper fit. Then I tried locks like this but he ripped them right off. Finally these were the winners. I don't think it was the same brand but same concept and his 3yo hulk strength was no match.

Apparently imma PW, Josie’s teacher is still sick. It was confirmed by admin that it is not covid, and then the teachers assistant told me this morning she doesn’t know details, but that the teacher was undergoing testing and would have results on Thursday. I reached out to the parents to have the kids make “I miss you” signs because I don’t know if she’s home to receive flowers. I cannot imagine how stressful it all must be.

TW: avoid if coronavirus discussion upsets you
We have to wear face masks anywhere in public. Even biking, running, walking the block. It's an executive order in MA now too. It's very creepy around town. The gray, damp weather doesn't help either. Yesterday in the grocery store I almost cried/had a panic attack. There's the standard elevator music but every so often their is a reminder about social distancing from the CDC and it feels like some overlord commanding the minions. All aisles are one way and we all lean away from each other and turn our head if passing. It made me feel like I was in the Handmaid's Tale and couldn't see on my sides and needing to be so stiff with each other. The item limits made me feel like I am turning in my token for a ration of beef and it just freaked me out. I just can't believe this is where we are right now. It's so surreal.

wedding I can see how that would make you feel like having a panic attack or crying. I always wear a mask in the grocery store, just because some people here don't understand social distancing...families of 5 with 2 shopping carts together. If both parents are there, seems like it would be smarter for 1 to stay home with all the kids, but whatever. I have multiple friends who have said they will cancel their Costco memberships because of the mask requirement, not shop at Mendards, etc. KS does not have this requirement on a state level. I got an email from my gym that masks are encouraged. I can't run in a mask. I'm not sure how I will handle that, but I'm still avoiding the gym anyway.

My gym sent out a very detailed survey last week. They want to know when people will feel comfortable returning. They offered a bunch of options to see if anybody would bite when they are allowed to re-open. Holding fitness classes outside, signing up for work out times to just be in the weights and cardio areas. Same thing for the pools and saunas.

MH had a faculty meeting where the kind of proposed a grim reality like the grocery store, wedding. Students assigned A, B, C or D meeting on those days only, one way single file hallways and stairwells, wearing masks.

I can’t get anyone to answer at the gym. They are opening tomorrow, so I figured someone would be there to answer calls today. I went on their FB to see if camp was mentioned, and nada, but I did see more about the plan they have in place.
Senior hours from 10-12. They will close at 9 to do a deep disinfect with some disinfectant foggers before senior hours. They also have a phased opening. For now, no classes, kid watch, family swim, swim lessons, boot camp, etc. If M won’t be starting camp there in July, I think I will put my membership on hold until I see how our state opening up affects our numbers.

IEP is done and it was great. But I’m more stressed now than I was before.😂
They are putting him on five hours (he used to go 3.5). So he will be there from 8-1 M-Thurs. This will afford him daily playtime with a general Ed class and two additional speech visits per week. But there is no point in continuing to have him go to DC in the afternoon if that is the case.
So it is looking like we will work something out where I will have him with me M-Thursday after 1 pm, then Pete will watch him Fridays. Woof.
No escaping watching kids while working even IF things open up come Fall, by the looks of it.

wedding I generally feel the same reality check as you at the grocery store. It’s really eerie at times, especially when the shelves are bare. We don’t wear masks when we are playing on our own block. So the kids really don’t know too much about what’s going on.

After dh got home I left to go flower shopping. I purchased the flowers I will use to fill MIL’s container as her Mother’s Day present. I also got almost everything I need for my 2 front pots, which is my Mother’s Day present. I’m planning to get all of them planted tomorrow. Don’t worry though, I can sit and do it so it shouldn’t be a strain. I’m excited to see it all grow in and look pretty.

I got my gardening on today too trtlcrzy. So excited to see all the plants grow. I discovered a new nursery that was really neat, not too far away, and good prices. The girls were thrilled to see the chicks ("they're only $6!!" Me--"dream on") and the shop cat. I think I'm done for now other than maybe some more strawberries. I need to see how it grows and the spacing.

That's such a nice idea for a gift trtlcrzy! You'll have to share pics when you finish. We have pink geraniums here that have been doing beautifully; I'm going to leave them for the next family, I think. I can't wait to get new pots going once we move. I'm hoping to get window boxes for two front windows, too.

Ok trtlcrzy...flower gardening for dummies here... I am establishing a bed. I need help with the order of operations 😂. I legit am clueless. I placed the border yesterday. I plan to sort of break up the ground a bit. Then get some top soil down. Then cover with the black garden fabric stuff. Then plant things. More on that in a minute. Then mulch. Is that the right “order”. Lol. Please tell me if I’m doing something wrong or stupid. My plan is to get some boxwoods, then fill in with some colorful flowers. And try not to kill anything. We plan to have a load of gravel hauled in to fill in the driveway to the border. ETA: this project was on my list when we bought the house....10 years ago 😂. Finally getting around to it. I’m tired at looking at the ugly concrete at the bottom.

I'm hoping to get window boxes for two front windows, too. I’ve given her a planted pot for MD for the last couple of years. I usually try to have it ready ahead of time but you know how this spring has been. The plants are all pretty small so it won’t look like much but I can def share a pic now and then later when it fills in some more. I like geraniums but I’ve tried them in my front pots and they just don’t do well for me so I’ve stopped planting them. That’s a nice gesture to leave them. I want a window box for the front window but I haven’t convinced dh to let me get one yet. This is the combo I’m doing in my pots, except I could only find the double yellow superbells so it’ll be very slightly different. I’m excited to see how it does. www.provenwinners.com/combinations/neptune-thriller

We plan to have a load of gravel hauled in to fill in the driveway to the border. Here’s what I would do: till up the soil a little bit to get it loosened up, you can add the topsoil at the same time. Cover the whole area with a layer of newspaper, which will smother and kill all of the weeds. Plant your things through the newspaper by cutting a hole big enough for the root ball to go through. Then a couple inches of mulch. Skip landscaping fabric, all it is is a pain in the butt. The newspaper will break down over the course of the summer under your mulch and will just return to the soil. ETA: I don’t know what direction that is facing but I would recommend getting drought tolerant perennials for that area so it’s low maintenance. Things like daylilies, sedum, coneflowers, etc. They will need consistent water this year but should be ok after that.
