Look at the little blondie wasabi! How long did they wait to take your cath out after surgery? I had the pee problem too but the issue was they didn’t wait the 24 hours added surgery to take the initial cath out. Apparently that is the hospital standard and the nurses were doing something different, and the charge nurse got mad when she heard because I had to be given 3 straight caths and then another 24 hour full cath which was all very unpleasant. Oh I do remember you talking about that now! Yeah they def didn’t wait 24 hours. Thankfully they just did 1 straight catch before going to a foley bag (I think that’s what it’s called?)

My doctor and the charge nurse both were like wtf why did they do that. I am glad you are trying to move around! I know how much it sucks. Do you have the binder yet? That thing was a lifesaver.

The hospital gave me one, and then I wore one from target for a while too. Did you ask if they had one? They offered it to me but maybe they forgot or something. It really helps everything feel pulled together. I wore one until probably 4.5 weeks PP.

Friday I woke up around 2:30 feeling crampy and intermittent contractions. I tossed and turned the rest of the night and was just uncomfortable. DH got up at 4:30 to go to work and I told him to make sure he answered if I called because I felt like it might be baby day with the way I was feeling. I couldn’t go back to sleep so I got up and took a bath, packed my hospital bag and a bag for DH.
Intermittent contractions continued and became more uncomfortable but were so sporadic. Around 8:45 I called my mom and told her how I was feeling. She decided to come to hang out since I was home alone with 3 kids, DH was at work at the hospital where I would be delivering an hour away and she was our plan for childcare. I then decided it would be a good time to finally install the car seat.
Around 10:30 my contractions got a lot more intense and were coming 5-7 minutes apart so I told my mom it was time to go. We got the kids gathered and in to the car. They still had no idea what was going on. We made the hour long trip to the hospital. My contractions continued to be 5-7 minutes apart but intensity and length were definitely increasing.
We got to the hospital at 11:30 and DH met us in the parking lot. I finally told the kids I was going to the hospital to have the baby and cried when I told them goodbye.
We made it inside but the office had never called the floor to let them know I was coming so I had to sit in the waiting room while DH got me signed in. Luckily the midwife on that day knows me very well. She told the nurses to get me in a room and prepare for delivery so 4 nurses met me at the door with a wheelchair and the midwife met us in the hall right inside labor and delivery. We got in to the room and I got in to a gown. DH said he remembers me getting in the bed at 1158. The MW checked and I was fully dilated but my water hadn’t broken so she broke my water and baby girl was born at 1214 weighing 8 lbs and 22 inches long. We sent our family a text that baby was here and healthy but waited to announce the sex/name until we got home from the hospital and our kids got to meet here and be the first to know her name.
By far the worst part of the whole process was the COVID swab!! As much as I hated that my mom and sister couldn’t be there and we couldn’t have visitors, it was also nice for DH and I to share that time alone.

Fuck, c/s recovery is no joke. They didn’t give me the same pain meds I was taking in the hospital and it’s definitely apparent. I can’t imagine how you did this with twins, willow. I feel so sorry for my singleton having to wait 10 minutes for me to just sit up in bed to eat. SO is being wonderful and helping but ouchhhh.

wasabi The first week is super hard. The second week is too but it does slowly get better each day. Lean on your SO as much as you can. My H had to do a ton at first as well. Ask him to get the baby for you MOTN (you’re nursing right?) and to do diaper changes until you’re comfortable standing up and leaning over. Especially if you don’t have a binder yet. Also I used Depends instead of the mesh underwear for the first week or two. They go up over the incision and are easier than fucking around with huge pads and look better under clothing.

Yeah I’m nursing. SO has been great about helping. I’m just annoyed because I’m typically a “I can do it myself” kinda person lol. SO just ran to the store to get Motrin and Advil for me to alternate with the prescription I got so hopefully that’ll help. And I didn’t get a belly binder at the hospital so that’s on my list to get today.

Being on bedrest and then recovering from the c/s has been torture for my independent self. I get it! I’m glad your SO is doing a good job of helping. My H had to keep reminding me that I just had major surgery so I needed to give myself grace. Which I need to continue to do. As should you!

I’m finally not in constant pain and ready to share my birth story. So my c-section was scheduled right at 37 weeks due to what we thought at the time was a mild case of preeclampsia. My hospital lifted the ban on not allowing a support person/spouse in the OR the day before my scheduled c-section. So DH and I arrive bright and early that Wednesday. We get bumped by two emergency c-sections. So my c-section doesn’t happen until about 12:00pm and we arrived at the hospital at 6:45am, by this time I’m hungry, grumpy and my IV feels like is digging into my skin. So when they wheel me back I’m totally ready! They get me all prepped and then they bring in DH and start getting to work. As they are cutting me I can feel like stabbing pains in my abdomen. I tell the anesthesiologist I can feel pain. He gives me more medicine. Then I start crying because the pain is getting worse. DH starts to panic a bit and asks them to stop so they can fix my meds first. At this point I guess the anesthesiologist just knocks me out completely. My brain felt like it was being fried. I can faintly hear what is going on around me, but my brain is like racing. At some point I kind of forget why I’m there and I’m trying to ask question but I know it just sounds like I’m moaning. The rest is what DH told me because I don’t recall. I guess I had a lot of scar tissue and adhesions it took a lot even get to the baby and my abdominal wall was really bruised in some places. They gave DH the baby and sent them to the recovery room while they closed me up. I was so bummed to miss out on skin to skin with him right after birth. I wasn’t able to do it with DD either. I was super confused when I came out of surgery, I kept asking the nurse if I almost died. Even with all of that Jer.emiah D.wayne the third was born at 37 weeks weighing 6 pounds 15 ounces and 20 inches. We’ve been calling him J3...lol! He looks just like DD when she was a newborn. If you look at pictures of both of them you can’t tell them a part. It is so emotional to know that my IF journey is over. After trying for 8 years and finally getting pregnant with DD after 6 medicated cycles, 5 IUI cycles and two rounds of IVF ( and 2 transfers). And then trying for about a year to get pregnant with DS after one failed FET. My family is complete and I feel complete. It definitely wasn’t the plan to be 42 with two kids under the age of 3, but I’m so ecstatic to have these beautiful human beings in my life! Pdq

Will update with the full story later but Lucas Stephen is here!! He didn’t want to wait for his scheduled c-section today and I went into labor yesterday 😂
There’s a picture on the GD board since it was a production just getting it up there - will add more here probably tomorrow! He’s doing well and in the NICU getting monitored for bilirubin (expected), and I’m feeling better tonight than I was this morning.

So since I’m up at the crack of dawn still in the hospital and with baby still in NICU, I can add the longer version.
During Friday’s NST I was apparently contracting every 3-4 minutes but I barely felt any of them at all. They told me to take it easy over the weekend since my scheduled c-section was Monday but to call if they got worse. Slightly TMI - Friday night I noticed i started losing the mucus plug, which continued through Sunday. Saturday we try to get a bunch of stuff done and I got pissed at my H around dinner because I felt panicky that nothing was even close to being done, and then he kind of went into crazy mode cleaning and putting stuff away. I helped a little putting the crib together finally, and then went to bed. I had one strong contraction before I fell asleep but then slept fine.
Next morning I woke up and was crampier than usual but nothing serious. The contractions/cramps were more annoying than painful but since I could feel them I used a timer app just to track them. They were ranging from every 8ish minutes to every 40 minutes so I didn’t think much of it. They started getting more regular around lunch, and then painful and regular at 2pm. Called the ob-call around 3:30pm and they told me to come get checked but take my time since hospital is far. On the way the contractions sucked a lot and got to every 5 minutes, so then I knew this was no joke. Got in and got checked - surprise 3-4cm and now every 3 minutes. That was around 6pm-ish, and by 6:30 I was getting past 4cm. They got things situated for the c-section and brought me back at 8, delivered at 8:32.
My MFM came in for the delivery which was amazing, and I got to be awake for the first time!!! My other two were under general for very different reasons for each, and that was basically my second goal for this one to be awake, after having him be born healthy and breathing. Overall it was really a great experience despite being a c section and despite now having to deal with NICU, but we expected both of those things.
C section recovery still sucks a lot and this one is no different, but we are being treated well here. I will say that having him in the NICU is giving me a more focused recovery for myself, but I still want him to get the bili under control ASAP so we can get him home. Hopefully within a week we will be able to bring him home is my best guess.

Sunday 6/21 I took a long nap so I wasn’t tired at my usual bedtime. I ended up staying up all night because of that and the excitement/anticipation of my indiction. I got the call around 6am with the go ahead to come in at 8. We dropped the girls off with my stepmom and off to the hospital we went. I got my first dose of cytotec at 9am. Contractions started around 30 minutes after I took the pill. I started my induction at 3cm and 50% effaced. It took a long time to get things moving. I got a second dose of cytotec at 1:20pm and things started feeling a little more intense. I finally got to 4cm after that. I did lots of walking and bouncing on the ball. I asked for and got my epidural at 2:30. The anesthesiologist was clearly in a hurry, he was talking a mile a minute and as soon as it was in he bounced. The epidural was great, I could still feel sensations in my bottom and move my toes but no pain with contractions. After that it was a pretty boring time of the nurse turning me over every hour or so. The OB originally planned to break my water at 5:30 but got held up with other deliveries and surgery so she actually finally came in around 7:15pm and there wasn’t a ton of fluid that came out. Things slowly started progressing and then my BP was running low. The nurse tried having me lay back, giving fluids and turning me but she did eventually end up having to give me meds to get it back up. Because I wasn’t dilating as fast as they wanted she started me on Pitocini around 8. After that things moved a lot quicker. Around midnight I was so close to complete. There was a lip of cervix on the right side that just wouldn’t go away. She thought it was gone so we tried pushing with really no luck. The had me lay on that side with the peanut ball between my knees and finally it went away and was time to push. I started pushing around 1ish, I think. I pushed for a few contractions with just the nurse and it was hard work. I remember it going a lot better with DD2. The doctor came in and was trying to help her come out but she was stuck with the top part of her head sticking out. I think I pushed for 3 or 4 contractions like that until she finally was born at 1:46am. Her cord was wrapped tightly around her neck so the OB got her cord clamped, DH cut it and then they rushed her over to the panda bed. The nicu team ran in and got her breathing and her color to improve. They had her in the warmer for at least 10-15 minutes. In the meantime the OB got my placenta out and gave me 1 stitch for a tiny tear. Eventually I got to hold my sweet girl. She started nursing at some point and then proceeded to pop off and on for like 2 hours. The nurse gave her a sponge bath and washed her hair in our room before we got moved up to postpartum.
