Hah, richard , I just saw that and it threw me for a minute. I definitely was like...do I follow Beto?

I'm really glad to be working the poll tomorrow, will keep me from eating everything and obsessively checking the news. I'm glad I have a busy day at work tomorrow for the same reason.

Here’s the thing I must be forgetting: were there violent protests when Hillary lost in 2016? Granted, four years of 45 has created a tinderbox of discontent but I don’t worry about the dems as much.

ladybrienne I agree with pretty much all of your assessments and appreciate you taking the time to type all that out. Given everything we know, in any other year, I'd be feeling cautiously optimistic. For my own self protection, I'm sitting firmly in the "we have no idea what's going to happen" headspace. But that's just me! If others are feeling optimistic, that's great! I'm hopeful. I'm fighting like hell. But I'm on the Trust No Bitch bench. I respect this. If the last four years have taught us anything, it’s that we should trust no bitch. My biggest point was number 2 (lol). I just don’t see swaths of new people being drawn to the incumbent, and when you’re automatically on the defensive, you have to be able to do that to win. To me, he’s lost more people than he’s gained. I am mostly nervous about fuckery they will try to pull, because I don’t want to see violence and people getting hurt.

And I also realize my point of view is tinged with privilege. I am a white woman and I live in an area that if violence does occur, it will not be right on my doorstep. I fully acknowledge and understand anyone’s fears and I am behind you whatever you feel and whatever happens. I’m not going anywhere.

Jessica Yellin is a great follow on Instagram for election content. I came across her account after RBG died and really like how she presents and explains things. I'm definitely looking to her over the next few days.
I'm so nervous. We are voting as a family tomorrow. Our polling place is our neighborhood clubhouse so it didn't make sense to vote earlier. I'm going to nervously clean the house and work on some sewing projects. I'm at least looking forward to getting in some Senate and House results.

There was some unrest on Inauguration Day in DC. Idk about elsewhere, because I didn't hear about it. But yeah, a smallish group of self-proclaimed "Antifa" smashed windows, lit a few vehicles on fire. It got coverage around here bc it was local but was probably drowned out elsewhere by the Inauguration.

One of my FB friends posted about removing political signs tomorrow night for fear of reprisals. Are others concerned about this? TBF, he is a black man living in the LA area, so he has more to fear than little ol white ass me in podunk IL. If I was a POC I would remove my sign. I probably wouldn’t have put one up to be honest. No need to give racists more of an excuse. I’m leaving mine up but I’m in a very safe area even if stuff goes wild around me.

I just want to be clear that I wasn't passing value judgment on any protests--I only said that I heard reporting of their existence. I don't know who was behind such actions, or their motivations, and I'm neither expressing support nor condemnation for any cause they may support or oppose.
I feel like this "Antifa" concept is tossed about so much that any situation involving the term requires 45 minutes of further explanation.

I’m worried about if Biden wins, there will be an outburst from Trumpers, and if 45 wins, it’ll give them the encouragement to harass or attack anyone they know who might have voted for Biden, or anyone they discriminate against. I’m putting nothing past them.

My memories of them are such a blur but I don’t remember violence when it was clear Trump won. I may have been a puddle of tears so it is hard to remember.

I’m normally passed out by now. Anxiety is a bitch.
Anybody have any good book recs? Something not too deep, like a romance or something. I’m starting my distractions list. A fitness challenge I’m in started today and my friend is one of the coaches, so we’re meeting tomorrow at the park to talk meal plans and then going for a run. I’ve got other stuff planned, but I’ll need something for downtime or I’ll obsessively be checking. That’ll probably happen anyway, but I can at least try.

I’m currently reading the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths. It’s not a romance but they’re easy reads ETA the first book is called the Crossing Places

I'm really looking forward to this show, out on Dec 25th on Netflix. It's apparently based on a book series and I'm thinking of reading it before the show premieres.

Or Verity? Both some of my favorite books of the past few months. Not deep or thought provoking but truly entertaining and great reads.

LaRo422 The Lions Den by Katherine St. John. I just posted on the reading thread about how my H is reading it and is so completely lost in it. I read it over the summer and loved it. It’s just pure entertainment, not deep but also not complete fluff. It starts very different than the ending. Just keep with it.

All those book recs are so good! jkjacq my library had the first book, so I borrowed it. elle my library app didn’t have the books available, but I’m thinking it’s because they just switched from an older app to Libby. Rebel they didn’t have Verity but they have The Last Mrs. Parrish. It has a long hold time, but it sounds good, so I requested it. oreobitsy my library doesn’t have it, but it sounds amazing! I definitely need to read it. Now that y’all have recommended some, mystery sounds fun. I like true crime, so anything like that or mysteries would be a nice change from what I’ve been reading.
