Wow, these expectations just sound crazy. 4 hours?? B's teacher said we should be spending about an hour a day total on the activities/work they have sent out. Sending hugs your way, Texas ladies. And hard liquor. My soul died a little when they cancelled school for the year here. lfig that is the sweetest. We’re doing school work from 8-3. They follow the normal school schedule. So reeves and lunch are included. DAMN. That is insane.

So reeves and lunch are included. This is bananas to me because of the district/school you are in. All the kids can’t possibly be doing 8-3 schedules. This week for us is a little different than last- which was just a packet and choose your online resources they provide. This week we had a couple of instructional videos and worksheets. It took us less than an hour even with him stopping for the cat and running outside to watch the garbage truck. 🤦🏽♀️ ETA: we still have to do his daily reading and dreambox(optional) but he loves it, so I don’t have to make him. So I guess that would take us over the hour. If I didn’t have to work today, we would have done it earlier.

tgrimes Did she reply to you yet? They can’t just expect you to sit there helping them from 8-3. At this age, they will not just willfully sit and do work all day. They don’t even do that in the classroom.

tgrimes our schedule changed this week to less virtual time because parents were rioting about the screen time. Which is funny because my kids going to be at a screen either way. It has been better but it’s still rough. Are you physically going to work or wfh? My saving grace is that my work has been very understanding and flexible.

😳 Texas needs to cool it, that is bananas to expect 8-3. I'm hoping we have an hour or two of work a day. That's all I plan on doing. Also we don't have a printer, so hoping I'm not expected to print stuff out..
Today we got logged in and found his Google classroom. I think tomorrow something is supposed to happen, but unclear of what.
I had 2 hours of calls today and k had a blow out diaper when I was not on mute😬😂. Awkward. Otherwise just another day in paradise here. J was a bit wound up so I put on a cardio dance workout on the peloton and then a yoga class for him, at least he's using it! I think I'm feeling back to normal so I plan to start working out again soon, just worried about my milk since I have had to supplement since I dropped some weight. Glad I can credit a global pandemic with getting back to prepregnancy weight..

tallb I thought I would have to get a printer, too, but the school puts the work packets in bins in front of the school weekly. So glad about that. I think they know it’s a lot for an at home printer if you have multiple kids. Hope it’s maybe like that for J, too.

wineallthetime how is your niece? tallb I asked H’s teacher if we would need to print anything and she said no. We can just use notebook paper or there are preprinted packets at the school you can pick up if you need them.

We have to print our own packets. For those that don't have computers/printers you have to contact the school. I'm not sure of the logistics after that.

tgrimes that is insane. I hope enough parents riot they get a clue that you can't just carry on from home like they are in school. And of course in a home school situation kids don't need near as much time as in school because of the time spent on extras (socialization, watching videos, recess, lunch, free play, etc). So instruct for an hour and call it a day. Sheesh. And not printing packets sucks. I have a printer but that stuff sucks up the ink quickly and of course some parents may not be able to pick them up.

I'm about to have my nightly cocktail of Alka-Seltzer. It may be psychosomatic but it seems to help with the headache I have by the end of the day.
I actually enjoy the school stuff with the kids, but trying to do that and work makes it where the day is just nonstop. And I get urgent texts and emails constantly from my other job now. So I end up working way past my normal workday.
My old TKD instructor is doing free online classes 3 days a week and those have been my bright spot. They are excellent exercises and it's nice seeing him again.

We do school from 9ish-3ish. Cadence has been waking up at 9, which is amazing. We go for our morning walk When we get back she writes/draws in her journal I set her up with either worksheets or a lesson. First I teach the lesson, then try to incorporate an activity that goes with it. The activity she is supposed to do on her own while I get work done. The worksheets she does on her own and I check it when she is done Then lunch/tablet time After lunch I work on whatever subject we didn't do in the morning. We read or do sight word cards. Then she has quiet play time, which is usually tablet time as well.
This is all assuming she cooperates. This afternoon I didn't have work so we went outside and played kick ball and tried to fly a kite. It all depends on her mood, my mood, and how much work I am sent throughout the day. But, I also only have one kid and she is fairly independent (though not lately). I can't imagine how I would manage multiple children and get any work done.
Mh is wfh, but his workload is constant. He gives me a break in the afternoon, but length varies, today he only had 20 minutes.

wineallthetime great news about your niece! tgrimes that expectation is insane. There is no way I could handle that. Does the school expect you to turn work in? We have 1 sheet a day, maybe takes 45 minutes. These kids are too young to handle that kind of schedule. Maybe older kids, but not 6. Not at home. I hope they make changes that work better for everyone quickly. I'm sorry you have to deal with that bullshit. Happy late anniversary flamingo and jewels! Hopefully you found a way to make your day special. Definitely an anniversary that wont be forgotten!

We have a weekly project now so once we're done we have to take a picture of it and send it to her teacher. I'm not sure how they'll handle the worksheets yet. Maybe we just screenshot those to her as well.

tgrimes it’s beyond ridiculous, I really feel for you guys!!! At the school I work at they’re keeping classes to max. 20 minutes at a time, to not give all classes if you normally teach one class 3-4 times a week and max. 15-20 minutes of homework per class per week. These are 7-11th grade students...
