I actually came onto this board thinking there’d be more activity with people being cooped up at home now. Plus some warmer weather and cabin fever.
Some of the silver lining in this pandemic, I am hoping, is that there is a huge increase in donations. Today I am going to donate clothing I’ve been sorting the past three weeks, drop off other goods at our homeless shelter, and I still have to pull together a few last things and confirm the drop off point for a women’s shelter.
Anyway, any spring cleaning you have planned?

I had a list but I have not been home like some others have been. I think after today I should be home more.
I do have some closets to clean out and get some stuff together.

I'd be interested in sharing lists. We're doing okay, staying on top of general cleaning, but I'm hoping to dig into a few projects that are easy to do peacemeal.

Since we are home during quarantine I have put together some projects. I’ve already completed my paperwork purge. So much shredding has been completed. This was a great job for SS (9). Kept him busy and got the job done.
We also made our home office way more functional. I’m teaching from home and the kids are distance learning so we’ve repurposed some tables into desks and cleaned out the clutter that was collecting there.
I’m also going to hang the pictures we have laying around.
Closet organization
I need to paint my half bath

Ooh, yes! DS (4) would probably enjoy my backlogged shredding!
He was less enthused about coin sorting and rolling.

I’m WFH full time and H is essential employee so we don’t have as much down time as others. So far on my list are:
Deep clean kitchen: includes washing cabinets, moving appliances and cleaning behind them
Hang artwork that hasn’t been done
Purge kids toys
Go through summer clothes bins to see what we have

I like that decluttering calendar McBenny. I’m adding that to my list. Seems very doable.

I love those challenges. They are hard, though. Because some you might do all the time, and some are definitely more than a few hour project one eve. Photos and garage are each like a week long activity in and of themselves for me.

Photos and garage are each like a week long activity in and of themselves for me. With things like email and photos I just set a goal for me to go through a certain number daily or even weekly. I break it into smaller tasks. The garage is a n/a for me cause it's my H's domain. He did happen to clean it this last Saturday.
Sunday: I cleaned and organized my 2 night table drawers. Baby steps.

I have been feeling really hectic lately with having no real schedule but I feel like the house is a war zone. So I’m going to take the calendar approach this month and see how it works out.

Thanks! It’s actually going rather well! Clean up is so much easier with less items to sort. No more rage cleaning haha.

Thanks to this thread, when I asked the 4yo yesterday what he wants to be/do when he grows up, he told me he wants to be a paper-shredder.

Also, I wish I had taken before and after shots, but one thing I am so very pleased about is that I finally dealt with our spice rack. After 5 years.
The racks are built into the inside of the cabinet doors and are too deep. So the spices would either slide around when I open the cabinet or I have to double up and can't see stuff. Alphabetizing was always shot. So I finally added a foam padding behind the spices so they are all in a neat row now pushed to the front of the rack. And the foam allows for a little bit of give if the bottle I have is bigger or smaller than the others and accounts for variation in shape of the bottle. I am soooo happy. The only thing is that the rows are not fully adjustable and not all the same height, so I have one row of random smaller spices out of the over-all alphabetical order.
How do you all organize spices? Ours is alphabetized with straight spices, then liquid extracts alphabetized, and then pre-mixed spices alphabetized. With a random row for large containers (like salt sized), a random row for mini 1/2 or 1/4 sized containers, and a row at the bottom for extra replacement bottles.
We love our spices!

Also, please shame me or encourage me or something. I have a box of things for the DV shelter I mentioned at the beginning of this thread, and I just haven't gone. I think it could be helpful to someone if I brought it over. I really want people who have to go there right now to have access to resources.
I think I feel guilty that what I have is so little: the biggest hurdle I have is feelings of embarrassment and fear of being shamed or ashamed. Also I'm a little confused about where to actually bring the donations. These aren't good enough reasons to not make it happen. And I don't know why I feel this way, because I used to volunteer at the DV shelter local to me in HS.
So please, someone be a good friend and kick my rear or hold my hand and make me go.

I would call them roseinbloom. They would tell you the procedures for donations. You can do this!
