I hope this thread lives and grows. I'm not specifically pagan, but my grandmother was one who "knew things" and I have inherited her deeply felt witchy streak... I seem to be drawn to Wiccans or attract them. I have some great friends of a leader of a coven and also a longtime friend is a deep practitioner. As for me, I most definitely do some spellwork but also read tarot cards, and connect to the holidays. DS was born on the first day of fall (Mabon) so that feels very special to us. I don't have any formal study. But I have several important animals and plants to me. I'm strongly introverted, somewhat an empath, and a Virgo. My DS is all of those too... its sometimes a challenge.

I stumbled onto this thread and I feel like I should go here?
I did the organized religion thing until I was 12 and really started questioning the stories and how nothing seemed to match up to science and facts. I've felt validated ever since because I cannot stand cherry-picking sins, pandering, and straight up hypocrisy. I was atheist for decades, but lean towards agnostic now. How can people be so sure of something that no one can be sure of? Ya know? But also there are so many that are convinced that I feel there has to be something to it, and I could never say "this is" or "this isn't". So I've always said that Mother Nature is my religion, not really connecting that there is one out there that I could fit into. I'm finding this thread intriguing now.
I've definitely been dabbling in flower gardening more over the years, and this particular year I've become an even crazier bird lady since we moved to the lake 2 years ago. Literally I have named the blue jay and blackbird that live in our trees. 🤣 All my feeders are super close to the house so I freak out when I get an oriole, finch, hummingbird, etc. Next year I'm building a food garden and planting a huge wildflower bed on the east side of our house that gets tons of sun and zero foot traffic. Our bedroom window and DS' faces it, so I wanted to do lots of bird/bee/butterfly attracting flora.
Anyone have any opinions on where you I would fit, and have resources?

Today is Lughnasadh, pronounced LOO-nah-sah, or also called Lammas (for English and Christian). It is the traditional Celtic Pagan holiday that begins the harvest season and the slow, winding down of summer. You can read more here: www.learnreligions.com/history-of-the-lammas-harvest-celebration-2562170My girls and I went down to the farmers market and bought loads of fruits and veggies. I'm excited for the peaches! They're going to make a lovely galette. It rained on the way back, and we had fun splashing in the puddles and catching raindrops on tongues- a perfect kid celebration of nature. I hope you all are well and finding ways to embrace and nourish your spirituality, in whatever form it takes. Blessed Be! iruntodrink, the link I posted above has loads of information on the holidays and various modes of Paganism/ Wicca/ Nature Worship on its website. After that, I actually really enjoy Pinterest for ideas on unique individual ways to celebrate. Welcome!

Mabon is coming up, commonly referred to as the Autumnal Equinox, the 2nd harvest. September 22nd this year. It's a time to celebrate all that the year has given us, reflect upon and release those things which did not serve us well. The Pagan Thanksgiving, if you will. It is the day of equal light and dark, when the earth is in perfect balance. Ways to celebrate: * Go apple picking * Bake * Enjoy some cider * Deep, deep clean * Make a "gratitude" list * Donate to food drives- share your abundance * Go for a walk/ hike. Collect acorns/ pinecones/ natural symbols of Fall while thanking Nature for its gifts. * Have a family feast with seasonal foods * Decorate your home with Fall decor * Burn some incense/ candles with Fall scents- cinnamon, cloves, apple, sage * Meditate on the year- which has been particularly brutal. Allow yourself to grieve. * Begin preparations to protect your home/ family against the coming darkness and cold. * Invoke whichever deities you choose to honor, asking for their assistance as you set goals for the season. This is awesome Ls2012, thank you! I have been thinking that I might just start finding out ways of celebrating the holidays and see where it brings me. The holidays are definitely a good way to get started! In researching, planning, and celebrating you absorb so much info. And you may find after Mabon, for instance, that your interest carries you over to the days after and incorporating those ideas/ rituals into a regular daily practice. The seasonal changes and corresponding sabbats offer constant stream of observing, planning, and practicing.

I want to tell you how much I appreciated you posting about the correction of words. Not because they were hurtful but more because I want people to realize they can embrace the culture and that it is ok. Some of the most famous practitioners were also known for their other religious affiliations.

Not because they were hurtful but more because I want people to realize they can embrace the culture and that it is ok. Some of the most famous practitioners were also known for their other religious affiliations. There's just no need to use that language when talking about any faith. There's room for everyone. I try not to find it hurtful, but I do get defensive about it. And it's ok if this path isn't for a person, but then they shouldn't put it down or be dismissive of it and those that do practice. I know that's not what was happening and I love that yoginikiki acknowledged it wasn't a great choice of words. I appreciate this place and it's general open-mindedness so much.

Spell for RBG - it’s a candle spell
Spell by Rhiannon Flowers
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg spell
For this spell, safely prepare to light 3 candles either alone or with 2 other witches. You will need: 1 green candle for healing, vitality and abundance. 1 silver candle for mental clarity and decisiveness. 1 black candle for protection and binding. A book/box of matches.
If there are 3 witches, decide who will light each one of the three candles, or prepare to cast the spell solo, imagining all the other witches who may be casting the same spell in other places, allowing yourself to add to this energy, and then begin!
Chant aloud: Ruth Bader Ginsburg, in emanating strength we witches bring light, to further your healing and longevity in your rightful place. Those that wish to hear our call, may you summon the RBD humanitarian that exists in us all!
Light your black candle as you say:
Spinning twines that bind toxic masculinity, we keep a firm hold, as we embrace our responsibility to protect each other and all living beings from harm.
Light your silver candle and say:
We call on the part of us that looks injustice in the eye. The part of us that is pragmatic, decisive, and also deeply listens.
Light your green candle and say:
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, may WE continue to be able to do your life’s work with clarity, focus and deep healing. May YOUR SPIRIT be surrounded by overwhelming support, and may patriarchy fall for the good of all!

I've got a pie crust chilling in the refrigerator. We went apple-picking yesterday and I'm using half for the pie and the other half to attempt to make cider(fx). Windows are open to the fresh air (grateful we don't live where there are fires and air-quality concerns). I bought a special Mabon candle off etsy and I'm going to burn it 4hrs a day through the 23rd.
The house-cleaning/ decluttering is not going as well as I would want. My efforts are being mightily thwarted by the tiny humans.

My efforts are being mightily thwarted by the tiny humans. Tiny humans definitely do not understand decluttering. I busted through some laundry and tomorrow I'm going to finally get my shit together to send to ThredUp. This was a good motivator! Good luck with the cider. I think I'll buy some when I go to get my cake apples (I am not talented in the kitchen lol). I would rather use freshly picked ones, but we can't go to the orchard until this weekend and I want cake, damnit. I also want to get DD early from school and take her on a nature walk around our neighborhood. She found a pinecone recently and lost her mind with happiness so I'm hoping she'll be excited. Kids losing their minds with happiness at small nature things never gets old. ❤ I've smudged my house, got my candle burning, apple pie is baking, cider is in the slow-cooker, and took the little ones for their walk. Starting to pull out some fall decorations to put up. Tonight, I'll sit outside with my candle and gratitude list and reflect. It's supposed to be a beautiful evening here. Mabon Blessings to all! 🍁🍁🍁 *Pdq pics*

What I love about paganism: * It's inclusive of everyone and everything. * There are no wrong ways to practice. There is light and there is dark, and between the two there is balance. * The celebration of life, nature, and the cycles of time- everything keeps moving forward. With every change, there is familiarity. * It is easily customizable to the individual. * It doesn't look away from science, but embraces it fully. For me, I appreciate that paganism came first. The worship of the sun, the wind, the rain all existed before any other religion. It is our most basic instinct and most natural beginning and end. Quoting myself to talk more about Paganism. As a general practice, these points all apply. But there are specific practices we should all be careful of appropriating. As mentioned previously, my Irish blood lends itself to a natural Celtic path. I would encourage anyone here to look within their own familial backgrounds and culture to the Pagan practices inherent. I promise you, they exist. It may not be easy research, but it will be fulfilling. More about closed practices here: practicalpaganism.wordpress.com/tag/closed-cultures/

I got some crystals and said I'd share.
The clear quartz is for cleansing and a clear mind (kitchen). Amethyst for relaxation and clearing negativity (kitchen). Celestine/Celestite for calming the chaotic spirit (mantle in the living room and a bit in C's room).

Is anyone familiar with Norse origin paganism? I'm interested in getting into my root (Scandinavian) paganism, but want good guidance. Also - if I'm a Swede does Wicca or Asatru seem more appropriate?

🎃 The veil between the living and the dead thins today, welcoming the souls of our ancestors to visit among us. Remember them and honor them; celebrate their memories. May you all have a Blessed Samhain / Halloween! 🎃

Also - if I'm a Swede does Wicca or Asatru seem more appropriate? I don't have much info, unfortunately. From a very brief, cursory search, it would seem Wicca might be more open to incorporating Asatru practices while the latter is more strictly Norse. I think whichever you choose should speak to you, but neither are wrong. Best wishes as you find your path! www.ravenkindred.com/wicatru.htmlRemember, there's no need to rush. The time you take to research and reflect is all part of your journey.

Created my alter tonight. Realized I am short a taper holder, but since it is for the god candle versus goddess, I’m good with it for now.

The stretch between Samhain and the Winter Solstice is one of the longer gaps between sabbats. I actually enjoy this quiet time and let my mind decompress. I refocus my efforts where any shortcomings have emerged in home and health, and place a greater emphasis on self-care.
How are you spending this time?
