The campaign trail is brutal. Add to it the currently unpredictable variable of coronavirus and I'm really worried about our candidates. I hope everyone remains healthy.
*excluding Trump from this narrative because hey, I'm only human 🤷♀️

Not to stir but Bernie does not look well this evening The feed isn’t the best but he doesn’t sound himself
Also he just paid Amy a very nice compliment ‘she’s one of the hardest working people I know’

It would be crazy times everywhere.

I vote in PA, if Warren is still around I will vote for her. Biden is my second choice.

I'm not wound up by the video of Sanders. It kind of looks like he just ran up a flight of stairs or something. His breathing evens out over the course of the clip. I would need more context before I thought too much about this clip.

I saw a photo yesterday of Bernie picking up a rather large child, with a big smile on his face. So 🤷🏻♀️. He has been going really hard on the campaign trail & with rallies, so hopefully he’s taking care of himself.

How bizarre is it that we have a novel virus circulating the world during our most important election and all of our candidates are in the highest risk age category and here we are, In addition to worrying about policies, electability and qualifications, we are discussing their merits of health? What. Happened.

My coworkers and I were talking about how crazy it is that you seem to need to be post normal retirement age to be taken seriously in our presidential races now, compared to history (aside from Obama).

Well, to be fair, not all that many years ago health was not examined in depth or released in the press. Look at the young and vibrant JFK - probably the candidate with more health issues than anyone in decades. And FDR? That said, it is ironic that all the major candidates fall into the high risk factor with Covid 19.
I still wish Sanders would release his health records - he's being too cagey with them for my comfort, and I have no issues with the cardiac shunts. Lots of people are healthier post-cardiac event than prior.

Look at the young and vibrant JFK - probably the candidate with more health issues than anyone in Sure but by and large, the vast majority of presidents have been between 50-62ish when sworn into office. The oldest when leaving office was Reagan at 77 which is the age of 2 of the candidates in the race right now plus a 78 year old and a 70 year old (I'm not counting Tulsi lol). I mean, 70somethings (Trump aside) can certainly run a country, I don't mean to say otherwise. It's just an interesting shift.

I mean, 70somethings can certainly run a country, I don't mean to say otherwise. It's just an interesting shift. Oh, for sure it's an interesting shift, didn't mean to say otherwise, but I was also thinking comparatively over the last 200 or so years. A friend's mother and I were discussing that just 20 years ago, being 65 was considered really 'old'. And social security, Medicare, and most defined benefit pensions were designed figuring that once you hit 65 or 66, well, don't count on many more years. Eisenhower was 62, I think, when he became President and he was considered OLD as I've read historical biographies. But, obviously, a great resume as a trusted leader - hard to knock that. His heart attack, of course, shook the nation at the time and, I think, did push voters to look 'younger' for the next election. JFK was a startling change - much was made of his comparative youth. Now - well, assuming decent health, 65 is not considered aged these days - well, no doubt appears that way to anyone around 20-30. But healthcare has improved, and longevity has increased so much that it's played fiscal hob with pensions and everything else. I know most financial planners now use 95 at least when figuring out retirement savings goals. Unless the customer knows they're in terrible health and ready to kick the bucket. And if we look back 100 or so years, well, 40 was not considered young. Living past 80 was getting into Methuselah status. It is so reliant on underlying health and maybe even just having great genes related to aging and retaining mental and physical vigor. Would I be happier if the candidates today were maybe 10 years younger? Yeah, honestly, I would. I'm not overly worried about any of their health, more than I would a younger candidate. However, in all of their cases, even more than a candidate in their 40's, I would like to see a VP who is clearly capable of assuming the presidency, in addition to all the ticket balancing attributes that may be looked for.

greykitty Yeah I definitely thought about how in general, the average lifespan has increased and therefore viable candidates have gotten older. I also wonder if part of it is also the boomer generation and their desire to keep "their own" in office vs a gen z candidate because the shift in ideaologies has started to become significant -- though I realize that Warren and Sanders are certainly more progressive than the younger candidates were in this particular race. I think there are probably a lot of factors at play, it's just particularly interesting this election cycle where the age range has ended up.
