aries, my husband will likely take off around 2 weeks or so, especially because we will likely have LOTS of appointments after birth and with a c/s I couldn't drive for a couple weeks. I can only handle so much of my mom being around, hah. I actually have access to a short-term disability policy that I think pays a percentage of my income, but I have enough banked sick time and vacation time that I can essentially cover my entire leave at 100% pay. I originally took the STD plan last year during open enrollment as a just-in-case if things get really complicated and I need days off before delivery (which they still might) but it's also possible I won't need to use it at all. I just don't know what makes the most sense financially/practically. I did take the option where you have to wait longer to get the STD (4 weeks instead of 2 weeks since all the time I actually have saved) but I don't really have a good understanding of how that works.

With my work I believe our STD pays 60% of our normal wages but you can cover that 40% with PTO if you want to. I would just check with your HR rep.
