I'm starting this a bit early since my city (and surrounding cities) have declared a state of emergency and are completely shut down. We're getting an insane amount of snow (plus blizzard winds) for roughly 24 hours. Trying to entertain the kids and hoping we don't lose power.

danib where approx are you at? We are having blizzard conditions here too. I got the call that school was cancelled last night around 6:30, which I was glad it wasn’t 5am like it has been before. We aren’t leaving the house today but I have to work early tomorrow morning so I’m hoping the roads are ok then.

Oh wow danib! Stay safe! We’ve been dealing with childcare issues all week related to the two boys having the flu (and DS2 also having an ear infection). But assuming that DH, DD, and I stay healthy (I think it’s possible DD is getting a little sick), DD and I are going on a little girls trip this weekend to Los Angeles. The plan is to leave tomorrow, stop at a little arcade/fun zone on the way, hang at the hotel pool, go to a planetarium show in Griffith Park (where La La Land was filmed), then Sunday go to a pop up museum exhibit that looks cool, and a shop where she can decorate a cake (she loves the British Baking show). I tried to plan a 7-year-old girl’s exciting weekend. Really we’ll only be gone like 30 hours. DD gets lots of quality time with DH because they do a dad/daughter camping club together, but she and I don’t get as much time as I’d like.

danib looks like you got more snow than we did. I haven’t heard official totals or anything but I think we got 6-8in with lots of winds. Today is supposed to be super windy with a little more snow. I made it to work this morning just fine. Our road hasn’t been plowed at all so slogging through that sucked, but once I hit main roads it was fine. In other news, yesterday I binged “spinning out” on Netflix. I legit cried through the whole thing, I’m going to blame it on the hormones. I liked it a lot, but wasn’t really satisfied with the ending.

trtlcrzy we had 30 inches fall, plus the winds created snow drifts up to 10 FEET deep in places. People's entire doors and vehicles are completely buried.

Big nope to that danib! Are you close to the coast or more inland? No I'm about 10-15 minutes from the water.

danib that is insane!?!! What’s the record? I’ve got to assume you’re close to that. sdlaura that sounds like a fantastic trip!! What kid wouldn’t love a weekend devoted to them with 1:1 attention. I need to get better at scheduling things like that.

hangry we broke the record. We've had this much snow before, but not all in a less than 24 hour span.

I heard a snowfall total and as of this morning my city got 7.5in. It's either lightly snowing right now or just blowing off the buildings/parking ramp but I can't tell which.

Hi from work. Last night we lost power for like 5 minutes around 10:30. I don’t think it went out again but I can’t say If it did or not because I was asleep. It was real cold this morning on my way to work. I’m training someone and today feels like it’s going faster thanks yesterday.

I'm still stuck inside. State of Emergency is still in effect until at least tomorrow (but schools and government agencies are remaining closed tomorrow regardless if it gets lifted). They called in the Canadian Armed Forces (Military) to help dig people out and get people to warming stations and other urgent tasks so we should get some relief soon, plus extra plows are driving in from other areas of the Island that weren't effected as bad to help speed it up. We are getting another weather system tonight, with about 5-10 more inches of snow expected. So that sucks but isn't the end of the world.
