I have mixed feelings about tomorrow. The kids really needs to go back to school and get back into routine but I'm also saying goodbye to my day drinking and not needing to make lunches and peanut free snacks. I'm definitely not ready. I think they'll enjoy seeing their friends again once they get past the shock of waking early again. We're usually so busy it's been so nice to just relax at home.

Took me an hour to get the sick baby asleep. A was already asleep but M came out crying because he had a bad dream and now he was thirsty and lost his cup. I didn't want to move and risk waking MJ. We were on the couch. So I sent him in to A. Who sent him back out crying because he wouldn't help him. So I laid MJ down who promptly started crying.... then A jumps up to help. LITTLE LATE NOW. So I'm back on the couch trying to get MJ back to sleep.

I got a text at 8:50 from one of H’s classmate’s mom inviting her to a birthday party this Thursday at 6. Like wtf, do you not realize your kid’s bday is coming up? I need more than a 4 day notice. I don’t think it’ll work though because I work on Thursday. Slightly better, but B brought one home from school on Thursday for a party this coming Wednesday afternoon. I'm ambivalent b/c this isn't one of his regular playmates, but we can make it, so we're going. (Sidenote: She asked for a text or email RSVP by Saturday, which I did. No response. I feel like that's a bit odd, or just lazy. Usually you get some sort of, "Great, we'll see you then!" reply).

trtlcrzy ugh sounds like a rough night, hope you can get a nap later. Enjoy the last day of your vacation nam2013! klong11 I wouldn’t worry about adhd at this point, most clinicians won’t diagnose it til kids are a bit older anyway. I think a lot of it is the age. (And personally I think ‘adhd’ is probably thrown around a bit too much—but that’s a UO for a different day 😜) My UO is probably that it’s under diagnosed, but FWIW our neurodevelopmental pedi said they would start looking at that right around age six. I’m not concerned about it with X, but his lateral neural networks are at risk of other conditions (I think as many as half of kids with dyspraxia have ADHD)?). So, just based on how long it can potentially take to get her in front of the right doctors, I might start that process. You may get their intake packet and automatically start the questionnaire and realize little to none of it applies to her. At this point, I’m almost certain Dude is ND. A few members of my family who see him often agree. But he functions well enough in every way that it doesn’t seem like I can find a good reason to have him evaluated. He’s going to have his idiosyncrasies.🤷♀️ If you feel like it’s not causing her any problems at home and/or school then it’s safe to take a wait and see approach. Just my .02.

I should probably know...but I don’t. I even googled and couldn’t figure it out. Whatever it is, I agree with your decision to not have him evaluated if he functions well enough without a diagnosis. It’s so easy to get wrapped up and sucked in to way more than necessary for things sometimes. I’ve lived that life. We have enough things going on, that we don’t need one more if nothing is going to change or be affected by it. My sister has suspected her oldest (11 year old) son of having Asperger Syndrome. But he was older and although he has some quirks...he functions just fine in daily life. So she didn’t feel the need to go through all that. Sometimes I wonder if he would have access to more resources with a diagnosis...but truth be told...I don’t know what resources he would need. Other than socially. He’s extremely intelligent. He struggles mostly with the social aspect. Understanding you can’t win at everything. Etc. his emotions are hard to control. But as he’s gotten older it is getting better. And as far as ADHD...S has been on meds for it in the past. Which is common with kids with her issues. Her brain is firing left and right non stop. But I didn’t notice it helping any. And when MH took her to the neurologist for an appointment once when I couldn’t go, I told him to ask about it because it wasn’t making a difference. So they took her off of it! I was hoping for something else that actually worked. So when I take her to her next check up I’m going to ask again. Cuz this kid wears me out. She’s non stop. She can’t settle. She can’t focus. Surely something can help her brain settle down therefore her settle down!

lfig neurodivergent. I think Dude sounds similar to your nephew. He’s extremely fixated on certain things: geography, wrestling, astronomy, music, for instance. Like beyond these being just a moderate interests. He tells us where Sacramento is, how many miles away, how long it would take it us drive there, how far Florida is, that it’s Southeast of us. Maine is the furthest state to the North in the contiguous United States, Delaware was the first state in the union, etc. Endlessly. You would have to hear him to see how this is really very atypical behavior for his age. He will do this on a loop all day if nothing else is going on. He also combines these interests, like his latest thing is setting up his wrestling figures to make a “map” on the ground. Each figure represents the state they’re from. Wrestling is a similar story. “Jim the Anvil Neidhart died in Canada of a a heart attack at the age of 53”(I have no idea about the accuracy of that one, just an example). Also, on and on and on. With music, it’s “this song was on the Black Album. It was released seven years before Meshuggah wrote “Demiurge.” And repeat, but with various songs, artists, albums, dates, etc. He seems pretty oblivious to the fact that none of his peers seem to know what he’s talking about at all. Nobody else in kindergarten GAF about the obituaries of wrestlers from the 80’s, or Swedish death metal bands. 😂But he is undeterred. We’ll see how this works out over time, but his classmates seem to like him a lot, he’s doing great in school, he’s thriving at home (even in spite of a huge transition in our family life), so I just don’t see why I should seek any interventions. X was a different story because of his feeding issues, sensory seeking, and speech delay. It was impacting his ability to function as well as he could otherwise. It makes sense to me, because since we’ve received his diagnoses, it’s been clear to me that his delays seem more related to the dyspraxia than his ASD. So, with Dude I see with what I think is is ASD and no confounding issues with another developmental disability and it’s no problem for him at all.🤷♀️

cagoldi he DOES sound like my nephew! My nephew throws himself fully into certain things. And he will tell you everything you never wanted to know about it. He is so smart it is crazy. He’s always been into marine life, especially sharks. Well while we were in Fiji my H scuba dive with sharks at a baited site (that way the sharks eat the food, not the people 😳) Then the next day they dove there again to find the sharks teeth. So he found about 6 or 7 and we brought them home and gave a few to my nephew. He looked right at it and examined it. Said it looked like a (something I can’t remember) shark tooth. It could be a (something else I can’t remember) tooth, but it doesn’t have (something else I can’t remember), so it’s gotta be (first thing I couldn’t remember). I was amazed that at 10 years old he k we so much bu just looking at the teeth. I messaged MH and he said my nephew was right. Lol.
