I downloaded a 30 day free trial of the Peloton app, since I don’t have room in the house for the bike. I am really liking it so far. I’ve only done 3 “classes”-2 running and 1 strength training, but I am decently sore in places I haven’t been and it’s nice to have something to follow along to when running on the boring treadmill. I may keep it for $12.99/month and cancel the gym I never go to. I thought going into an office would be better for my weight than working from home, but I have gained a good 15 pounds in the last 1.5 years. So I need to make some big changes. This realization came a week ago when I did a squat to stretch out some jeans and they ripped right up the butt seam. 😬🤦🏻♀️ Tell me more about this app? I've seen ads for the bike during TDF and some other Giro broadcast and thought it was only for bike training. We have a cycle ops which we attach our bikes onto and hubs has it all set up with bike training softwares. It's not a big machine and utilizes our road bikes.

Taitai regarding bunk beds, does your Ikea have Kura? DS2's mattress will essentially be on the floor and it isn't so high. I hear you about the climbing though.

August Blooms that’s so awesome that you’re doing a tri. I would love to train for like a Spartan, wish I had training buddies to motivate me. Also making bread is a whole separate category of bsking. I consider myself a pretty decent baker for pastry and cakes but not bread. Check out books by Peter Reinhart - bread baker’s apprentice and as pompous as Paul Hollywood is, he’s a brilliant bread baker and knows his craft well.

They do have this one, and I looked at it (because it didn’t seem as high as the others), but I’m so-so on the athletic of it. Just seems a little too basic for me, and the corners are too sharp. I kind of like the rounded ones of the Sundvik - plus the brown color of the sundvik. I wish they had that Kura in a more finished color, with like some rounded edges or something.

I don’t have any of the peloton equipment, just a generic treadmill I use. But the app has a ton of workouts with their trainers- cardio, outdoor running, cycling, yoga, walking, stretching, boot camps, etc. They also offer program series if you are training for a 5k or full marathon. The classes are usually rated beginner-expert and vary in length also. Sometimes I do a 20 min run and 20 min strength or a 45 min run with them. It’s a free 30 day trial. I’ve enjoyed them so far. They make the time go by a lot faster.

Taitai I concur. I do like the Sundvik styling and if you have the room for 2 beds I think that would be a better option. I'm just thinkin ahead when DS gets sick and you may need to sit by his bed or even lay down next to him. We got a full size bed for DS because one of us is with DS every night for bedtime reading and then we lay down for a little while when the lights go out.

@augustnblooms. It just occurred to me that you're probably looking for GF breads and such. I just remembered I read good things a while back about a couple of books and 1 author I do love and use loads of her recipes and they are solid and reliable. You may have heard of her - Alice Medrich. She has a book called Flavor Flours and developed recipes specifically for each flours which happens to all gluten free. I actually may see if my library has it. The other I read about is Gluten Free Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a day - Jeff Hertzberg & Zoe Francois. No experience with these authors.

I know - the laying in bed with the kids for story time is something I need to figure out. DS1’s room is pretty big, so we were also thinking about putting a little couch on the other side of the room, which we could use for reading or if someone is sick and wants to lay their head on mom/dad’s lap. I also think I could probably fit in the sundvik with DS1 or DS2 for a bit...just if they are feeling icky. DH is trying to have us not be in bed with the boys when they fall asleep, because he thinks they need to figure out how to do that on their own...which I agree with. I’ll just miss the snuggles though. First, I need to get the big platform bed out of that room, and then turn the nursery into a play room. Potty train DS2, so we can get rid of his diaper changing station. So many moving parts 🤣

Taitai I totally agree the kids need to learn to put themselves to sleep. We've managed to gradually leave the room before DS falls asleep in the last year and I mostly like to snuggle with him so I do that. Tonight I just tucked him in after reading books and told him I can't stay because I had to work ( aackk! ) and he was totally ok with it. I think as they grow older they'll understand. Your DS is 1 year younger than my DS right? Also Potty training! OMG! Are we here already? I want to start with DS but will have to wait for us to get back in the groove after the break in routine with holidays, travels and our bout of sickness. He had diarrhea today!! Ugh! poor dude...he wasn't feeling too good and I think he was gassy - his belly felt like a tight drum. Hopefully he'll feel a bit better tomorrow. At least the puking stopped and I hope no more. Pedi did warn that after all the puking, its typically followed with diarrhea. Anyways I just need them to sleep so I can work and meet deadlines this week and the next several weeks until this project is completed.

Ugh potty training. I don’t know what I’m doing because daycare trained DS1 and that was wonderful. I bought a training potty and he’s actually peed in it twice!! All on his own. If you have one/plan on getting one- do you keep it in the bathroom? That’s where ours is but I think he may be forgetting it’s there.

We have our training potty in the bathroom, but we’re going to move it to the living/play area when we do the 3 day “oh crap” potty training method. That method worked well for DS1, and I’m hoping DS2 catches on quickly too. Once we were done with those 3 days of naked/no pants time, then we moved the potty back into the bathroom.

duskymonkey You could use your indoor bike trainer as long as you have something to adjust the resistance and monitor the cadence. I have a cheap spin bike from Amazon and bought a Bluetooth cadence monitor to do a Peleton hack and it’s working great so far. I’m still in the free trial period of the app but so far so good. Thanks for the bread recommendations! I’m going to see if my local library has the books.

I’m thinking about potty training too but it’s snowsuit season and I’d need a backup set, maybe I’ll find a cheap used set. Just thinking and typing here. I’m so ready to be done with diapers!

We did this method and it worked perfectly for DD1. It was a very literal “3 day method” for her. I am holding off till either daycare pushes it or the weather gets slightly warmer for no pants. Maybe by Spring Break here (so late March) since I’ll have quite a few consecutive days at home...

School is back in session here. We’re all just a little tired readjusting to routine again - especially DD2 who had been sleeping in past 8 each morning!
The house Is a disaster because H and I have apparently forgotten how to teach and parent and be an adult. 🤦♀️😩

Alright - we’ve set Jan 18-20 as the weekend we’re going to do the 3 day “oh crap” potty training method with DS2. No more purchasing of diapers!!!
We’re also going to try to take the side of DS2’s crib off sometime this week, so he will easily be able to get out of bed to use the potty in the middle of the night. He normally wakes up dry, but I figure we should probably take this as an opportunity to make sure he can go at night in the potty if he needs to.
He’s growing up...kind of can’t believe we won’t have anyone in a crib or in diapers soon 😢😭

Ugh, potty training. DD was a unicorn and basically potty trained herself at 18 months. We pretty much provided a potty and underwear and that was that. So we really have no idea what we are doing 😂 We are in the middle of a snowpocalypse so I want to wait until it’s a bit warmer to try, plus having the baby be a bit older will help my sanity in the whole thing. DS will ask to be changed as soon as he is wet and goes forever with a dry diaper. He often poops on the potty and is more than happy to sit and try to pee before bath but that’s all we’ve done so far. I think if I could be more consistent he could probably do it but our schedule is so chaotic I just can’t right now. Hopefully soon though!

Plans are in motion at the Taitai home. We took off one side of DS2’s crib, so now he has a “toddler bed.” His nap today in it went well - he didn’t roll out on to the floor or anything. He’s asleep in it now for the night - I’m curious to see how they will go (now that we don’t have a crib to contain him).
DS1 got his new Sundvik bed from IKEA today, and he LOVES it. We also got a cute little hedgehog night light for him - so I’m really hoping that these are the ingredients to get him to consistently sleep through the night in his room. He’s almost 5 - we’re so tired of the MOTN wake ups.
3 day potty training starts for DS2 tomorrow! Area rugs have been removed...a sticker chart is ready. God have mercy on us.

Oh man, good luck Taitai. DS2 is not ready for PT training yet. He is doing pretty well in his twin bed, though! 2 nights with no wake-ups, though he is getting up early (5:45) but I'll take that over MOTN wake-ups. It was about 2 weeks before he got out of bed on his own. Monday evening he got out of bed looking for DH and that was all it took. MOTN one night this week DH woke up to him walking back from the living room (in the dark) looking for us. I sort of think it was good that he saw that we were not up doing fun things and were in bed. Since then, he's either slept through or went back to sleep on his own if he woke up. FX FX FX FX FX FX FX FX FX FX this continues.

Speaking of changes, my kid still has a bottle at night. It’s the only time he really drinks milk and he refuses it from sippy cups. And will screeeaaam and frantically beg and sign for milk if I offer a cup. I’m kind of meh on it and am fine just letting him have the one bottle. But there’s a nagging voice telling me to just get rid of it and deal with the screaming for a few nights. Am I doing him a disservice by not forcing him to give it up? (The pediatrician wanted all bottles gone by 12 months. 😬)

Yes we have something similar to a CycleOps ( don't remember the brand ) and it has a resistance wheel and a monitor and it's hooked up to software on a computer and we can run specific training programs etc. ( hubs is a nerd ) I just have to get hubs to put my bike back together - he was upgrading his bike and testing out components and parts and was using my pedals and handlebars and stems and seat. Maybe when I get caught up to just the day to day chores, I may be able to start working out if/when lil fella is napping.

Taitai good luck! tell us how it goes. I am jealous and sounds like your lil guy is ready. I wish we didn't have W2W carpets or I'd definitely try the 3 day method or naked butt. Lil fella refuses to sit on the little potty but he'll sit on the toilet and it's been hit or miss. He'd tell us mostly after he's gone and usually will go hide in a corner or behind the curtain. Sometimes when I catch him, he'd readily go to the toilet and sometimes he'd protest and we won't make it. If he's sitting on his high chair or during nap time, he'd let me know and we usually have success. He was actually running himself to the bathroom exclaiming "need to go potty" about 6 months ago and after he got sick and maybe lack of consistency - I was working over the summer so my folks were dealing with him - who knows, he became uninterested. DS was in a way easy since it was a gradual process and by 20 months we no longer had poopcidents. However pee was a different matter. Heck! he's 5.5 and this evening after dinner he had a pee accident doodlemommy I definitely think you and your H make unicorn children!

We managed to get him down to 1 bottle over the holidays but tonight he was crying for the 2nd bottle ( we still do 4 oz bottles ) I am not too concerned, DS was drinking from a bottle until he was almost 3. We ditched it a few months before he started going to preschool at 3. Our pedi didn't ask so we....don't tell.

Well, ::knock on wood:: things are going really well so far! DS1 slept all through the night in his new bed (7:45pm - 6am), and he said the hedgehog night light helped a lot. We should have done this earlier. It think the Sundvik is a lot more cozy-feeling to him, so he feels safer/more secure in there.
DS2 also had a good night in his toddler bed. He went down at 7:45pm and woke up at 9:30 walking around and all confused, but I went in and explained that he was now in his big boy bed, and I put him back to sleep. He then slept in the toddler bed from 10pm - 5:40am, so I’m calling that a win! He’s napping in there now with no issues too!!
We must have hit it just at the right time for potty training with DS2. He has been naked on the bottom since he woke up this morning. All it took was one pee accident (his first pee of the morning - there was a lot), and me putting him on the potty right away to explain that’s where pee pee goes now. He’s peed in the potty 12 times today, and pooped once 😊😁👍. He is going on his own too - will stop what he’s doing, run to the ikea potty we have set up in the living room, and do his thing. He really loves getting stickers on his chart each time he goes. I’m optimistic that the 3 day method will work. It did for DS1, and DS2 is picking it up even quicker than DS1 did.
I’m going all in and not putting him in diapers at night either. He wakes up dry every day (has been for months), so I am hoping for not a lot of bed wetting accidents. Fingers crossed this all keeps working!! 🤞🤞

I’m reaaaaally hoping tomorrow goes well. We are putting shorts on him tomorrow (going commando underneath), so we’ll see how that goes. We need to teach him how to push down his shorts/pants and go. I hope we hit the magic window and he gets it! 🤞🤞

Since we were stuck at home all day for potty training, we took down all the Christmas decorations and baked snickers cookies (just used chopped up snickers instead of choc chips). The house feels much less cluttered and I’m happy to have it back to normal for a bit. The cookies also turned out really well - super chewy and tasty. Highly recommend if you want to mix it up with your cookie baking 👍
