A new month, a new year, a new thread.

Who has a roomba? I want to get one but I have no idea which one to get. I mostly want to use it in my living room/ first floor. Between the boys, the cats, and a dirt driveway I am sweeping constantly. We have wood floors, a carpet in our dining room, and slightly raised thresholds. I don’t want to break the bank but get something that works.

It seems to work well, goes between our carpeted living room and wood kitchen floors easily. It was a gift to my husband because he's the floor guy in our household. He still vacuums once a month or so, but we don't have pets.

Happy New Year mamas. I hope there aren't any hangovers today. We actually stayed up until midnight, then went to bed immediately 😄

It is hitting the end of it's life span though I think. The suction is definitely less than it was a few years ago and it's been getting stuck a lot lately. I'm hoping upgrade to something fancy with some smart tech this spring. Ours does fine transitioning between floor types and heights. I still vacuum 2-3x a month, because kids and dogs are gross.

I don’t want to break the bank but get something that works. I don't have a name brand Roomba but we do have THIS robot vacuum. (sorry about the Walmart link - my SIL gifted it to us and that's where she got it) I really like it. It runs for about 1.5 hours before needing a charge and picks up quite a bit. We have 2 small children and a very gross, old, sheddy beagle. I have to empty it once in the middle while it is doing our main living floor. We have hardwood with rugs and one transition. Seems to navigate all fine and our couches are just tall enough that it can go under without getting stuck. I haven't used the wifi feature yet, just push go and let it do its thing. We have a multi-level house so I let it run on the lower hardwood and middle (?) hardwood. Haven't tried the carpeted lower or upper. My mom has one for their carpeted level and another for the hardwood level at her house. I still vacuum the hardwood about once every two weeks but run the Eufy maybe every other or every third day on one of the levels. It had saved my sanity. Best gift ever.

So how are naps going for everyone? I think C might be starting to drop his 😩. We switched his crib to a toddler bed about a week ago and he does well with it, meaning that he stays in bed for the most part for naps and nighttime. He napped for less than an hour each day this weekend and today and completely refused for my mom. Ds1 stopped napping early too but ugh I’m not ready...

Hopefully it's just a 'blip' with the change to the new bed. DD is doing pretty well with being in a bed. This morning was the earliest she came into our room at 5:30, but then she slept a bit more with us, so not too bad. We get up at 6 anyway. She had some long naps over the holidays, but she was staying up later so getting less sleep at night. We'll see how she does now that she's back to daycare! And what about potty training? DD has been having a lot of 100% days, no accidents! She was excited to pee at daycare when we got there today, so I'm hopeful the teachers keep it up today. They were so hesitant before, annoyingly. Hopefully DD will ask once at least and then they will have to take her, since apparently they didn't want to ask her. bethkate? How is E doing?? cnf, how have you been feeling?

She'll fight going down every time but she'd take a four hour nap if we let her. And she'd still nap twice a day if we let her do that too. My big on the other hand seems to be dropping naps completely. She stills naps most days but if we get 60 minutes out of her it's a victory. I'm not ready to have a kid who doesn't nap 😫

blabbermouth I'm feeling decent. I'm 5 weeks and still mostly symptom free. No real bad nausea or anything yet. Just fatigue, so damn exhausted. And the bloat seems to have finally caught me. Might have go back a notch on my belts soon. Mostly just waiting at this point. I have my first appointment on the 27th.

Also, we started potty training DD2. She's doing ok, but man is that girl stubborn. She does fine going on her little potty chair most of the time, but we still have an accident at least once a day. She won't sit on the smaller seat we have installed on their bathroom toilet and she will sit on, but not go on the travel potty seat thing when we're out.
I had a very "she's daycare's problem now" mentality yesterday because they only have regular toilets with the little seat toppers and since she won't use that while we're out I fully expected to pick her up and with her having had a bunch of accidents. Nope, no accidents and peed twice on their toilets. Like damn kid, why you got to be better for other people? C'mon. Hopefully they can make some serious progress with her and she'll start being less stubborn and better about saying when she has to go instead of just waiting to be made to go.

Yes I’m hoping the no nap yesterday was just a fluke. I won’t be shocked if he starts refusing more often though. We aren’t even close to potty training. C is showing absolutely no signs of readiness. I’m thinking we’ll wait until he’s closer to 3.

E definitely doesn’t want to miss anything at nap time but he still needs it. He does anywhere from one hour to 1.5 hours. He still doesn’t sleep all night so nap time is crucial. This past week his bedtime sleep was awful. 3+ wake ups a night. Then I remembered there is a 2 year sleep regression.

No potty training here either. We didn’t push N at all and when he did he day and night trained in a day. He has never wet the bed. E likes to stand at the toilet and “pee” but that’s about it.

The first few weeks definitely resulted in earlier bedtime and more evening meltdowns. Now, N will have tv time while E naps and I take a break.

Having a no napping kid really is a whole new world (as long as they are old enough that they don't need constant watching, I suppose). Also, hi, everyone! I have totally neglected to check in here. I am back at work today after a lovely week off. At least today wasn't too bad, other than having to be in at 5 am.

DD2 still takes solid naps, usually 2-3 hours. The big kid just relaxes or plays by herself for that time on the weekends. We aren't really close to potty training DD2. My nephew turned 2 in August and my sister has him in underwear during the day, but on Saturday he straight up pooped his pants 2 times in a row, so. IDK if I would call him trained... I asked DD2 the other day if she wanted to use the potty, and she said "No, Ann-belle (DD1) goes potty." LOL. Okay.
I think I am destined to have slow potty trainers. DD1 still wears pull ups overnight and she will be 6 in a month. She just sleeps so deeply that she doesn't wake up to pee. Apparently H was the same way.

We’re not potty training yet, he asked to go potty sometimes so I sit him on it but he doesn’t actually go. DS1 was 3 before he trained but it was so easy!
I enjoyed my days off and love my haircut and color. I’m trying to actually style it daily instead of my usual top knot- we’ll see how long I can make it last. 😊

I’m impressed with your potty trainers! We’re definitely not close to ready, but we sit on the potty for a little while everyday and practice the signs. We have a good handle on those. I think she has mostly figured out that I’ll let her look at my phone while she sits. So whenever she wants to watch Signing Time she just signs “potty!” But she never actually pees. Master manipulator! I’m not in a hurry to do it though. Kids with Down syndrome typically train later so we probably have a while to go in diapers.

We aren’t anywhere near potty training either. I did get the little Elmo potty out that we used with DS1 but he mostly sits on it and “flushes” and then gets up. I’m not rushing it though.

cnf congratulations! I need to go back and play catch up from December. A is interested in the potty, but he isn’t to the point of telling us he is wet or poopy on a consistent basis. He does like to pretend he is a puppy though and bark and lick, so that is something. This week was a rough one. My dog hasn’t been doing well and fell/collapsed on Sunday evening. He was pretty pale and was having a hard time with his back legs. We took him to the vet Monday and he was looking good except for his heart was hard to hear. Today, while I was reluctantly grocery shopping, he passed away. He died with H here comforting him. He really was the best dog. I’m really sad and DS1 & DS2 are handling it okay, but they are pretty sad. They helped take care of him, letting him in and out and making sure he had water. He also would go out with them while they played basketball.
