I haven’t tallied up my books from 2019, but it was a lot more than usual. This year I want to aim for 40. I’m currently reading a thriller called The Last House Guest. A couple of questions for all of you avid readers: where do you get your books and how do you track what you have read? I don’t like to pay for books so I do library ebooks, but hold times are so long for newer titles. Maybe if I joined a few libraries it would help. And I can’t seem to find a great method of keeping track of what I’ve read. Is that what good reads is for? Help me. Lol I use goodreads and a spreadsheet.

2019 - I finished the Popsugar Reading Challenge and read 82 books (goal was 80). 2020 - I have the categories for Popsugar and Bookriot challenges already loaded in my spreadsheet, but I’m going to focus on the BR, because I like the categories better and focus on Queer/non-binary and Authors of Color. bookriot.com/2019/12/03/2020-read-harder-challenge/I’m keeping my challenge at 80, which was manageable due to listening to at least a book a week on my solo mornings at work and runs and then reading in the evenings.

I would love to hear everyone’s 2019 favorite and least favorite book was
My favorite was The Child Finder by Rene Denfeld
My least favorite was A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult. I have read and loved all of her books up until this one. I couldn’t even get through it. I liked the story line but maybe with it being written in a backwards timeline it lost its appeal.

My goal for the year is 15. I am listening to Red, White and Royal Blue and really enjoying it. Audio books are a new medium for me and I’ve found it has to be the right book for me to like as an audio book. The only other I’ve enjoyed is Daisy Jones and the Six.
I just finished Next Year in Havana and Stoner. I enjoyed Next Year. I could not finish Stoner (listened on audio). One of a few in my life I couldn’t finish. I really disliked it.
I am about to start Becoming.

My favorites last year were The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and One True Loves. Red, White, and Royal Blue for honorable mention. Least favorite was Verity. By a lot.
Just finished Autoboyography by Christina Lauren. Very sweet YA.

I never thought of tracking my reading. I really should be though bc I read quite a lot.
Right now I am reading The Giver of Stars by Jo Jo Moyes (Me Before You author). It’s based on actual events about women running a traveling library in Depression era Kentucky.
I read the first 4 books of the outlander series in 2019, so I can see myself adding a few more of them in 2020.

A top book of 2019 for me was Educated.
"Know My Name" by Chanel Miller has been extremely disappointing.

I finally started Where the Crawdads Sing. I was finishing A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (loved) and reading some fluffy regency Christmas novellas when the hold came up on my library Kindle copy, so I waited to start it. Now I have to finish it before I turn on the wifi on my Kindle back on, or it will get taken away.
I don’t really know what to expect, but everyone has been raving, so.

I finished a personalized reading challenge in 2019, and one of the books was 600-page East of Eden, so I’m calling it good. I didn’t count up my books or total pages, because that alone was Everest to me.
My favorite book, or at least, most affecting, that I read in 2019 was Slaughterhouse Five. Closely followed by A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
ETA This sounds very high brow. I round it out by reading a lot of smut.

I'm starting Three Women by Lisa Taddeo today. I've heard good things! That was our book club book for December. It was a lot heavier than I was expecting, which lessened my enjoyment of it because I’d been reading back to back heavy stuff and needed a break.

The only book that I DNF was You Are a Badass by Jen Sincere. Sanctimonious crap that seriously belittled mental health struggles. I do not recommend.

I just finished A Woman is No Man and it’s heartbreaking. I also finished the most fun we ever had. It took me a while to get into it but I actually really liked it. Right now I’m reading my lovely wife and it’s meh. I just got catch and kill off of the hold list on the Libby app so i might just switch to that. I just finished My Lovely Wife and also felt so MEH about it. But people really love it so I was caught off guard. It's usually my type of genre, but that one didn't do it for me.

I'm setting my goal for 24 total. I read super fast, and I will usually throw down three books back to back but then I go a long stretch without reading. Right now I have Ninth House and The Starless Sea from the library and they were both due already so I have to read them like, tomorrow.

I was disappointed in Educated. I wanted more details about how she was able to basically self-educate and didn’t expect so much horrific physical abuse.
I think my top three from 2019 were 1) Where the Crawdads Sing 2) Becoming 3) Catch and Kill
I’m about to start Inheritance: A Memoir of Genealogy, Paternity, and Love

My favorite of the year was The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden.
My least favorite that I actually finished was Say You Still Love Me by KA Tucker. I hate-read it to the end to see if the characters maybe all died in a terrible explosion but no such luck.

I’m a librarian and I barely read so that’s a goal for me this year. I got an Amazon Fire tablet and will use that mostly and audio books because I have an insane commute.
I set a Goodreads goal of 45 but we will see.
Right now I’m reading Upstairs at The White House: My Life With The First Ladies and I’m really enjoying it.
My favorite last year was definitely Becoming- I listened to the audio of it.

I picked up reading again around September and read 5 books by the end of the year. I set a modest goal of 24 books for this year. My problem is that I only make time to read right before bed, so I end up falling asleep even if I really like the book.
Right now I’m reading Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah. I don’t really like it, but I tend to want to finish books even if I don’t care for them. Where the Crawdads Sing is on deck. Hopefully between Goodreads and this thread, I’ll continue my reading habit.

It surprises me how frequently I’ve seen Daisy Jones and the Six pop up as a favorite read. I had to make myself finish it. I loved Evelyn Hugo by that author though.

I read 17 books in 2019. My goal in 2020 is 26. I just tonight started The Family Upstairs and so far I’m into it but it seems kinda sad. Just finished the Guardians by Grisham. Didn’t love it. I was entertained enough but some of his commentary bothered me. You are in for a ride with The Family Upstairs

I finished The heiresses yesterday and I’m pissed it ended on a cliffhanger and it doesn’t seem as though she wrote any more of the series
I started Fly Away which is the second in the firefly lane series.
I read 50 last year and I’ll probably keep that goal but with 2 weddings going on this year it may not work

I started Bringing Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore. I’m only 4 chapters in, but I love it so far.
I read 15 books in 2019. I dropped off at the end of the year, so I’m shooting for 20 in 2020. My favorite books were Jenn Bennett (Starry Eyes, Alex, Approximately).
