Congratulations to the new mama, and best wishes to the family for a wonderful and healthy new year. And to everyone here, whether we agree or agree to disagree, may the new year bring health and happiness to you and yours.

Was sitting in a waiting room today and got to listen to one Boomer loudly complain to another about how she is “Done saying Happy Holidays. That’s what they want you to say and I’m not doing it ONE MORE TIME. MERRY CHRISTMAS!” Said with rage. No mirth at all.
Hi Phyllis. I promise in this rural area of the rust belt no one is making you say that.
My eyes rolled so hard they got stuck for a second.

I put Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas on the sign at our store today because I knew it would annoy people. 😈
Tonight we are going to SO’s uncle’s house, he told SO that he won’t tell grandma that we are living in sin (we moved in together but aren’t married).. 🙄🙄🙄 He is also a big 45 fan so I expect us to be bffs any day now 🤢

T& P to all the people giving out DNA test kits this holiday season. We've been trying to tell them. I once helped a woman at the library navigate her results and she was amazed about how accurate the DNA kit was. As we chatted, I realized how easily I could find the same migration information or trends by researching certain historical events. Those test kits seem like a lot of bells and whistles for handing over a lot of your own data.

Myself, MH, and my MIL all had significant gaps in our family history and the test was interesting and helpful to fill in gaps in knowledge. I hemmed and hawed for a couple years because of fears of the data implication. But when it came down to it I decided to do it because I was tired of living the unknown. I’m not doing it to find relatives as I actually have that part shut down. I just wanted to know my health risks, etc and my background.

The test kits and health screening kits are very cool and it is totally understandable why people buy them. I have just always been uncomfortable with giving a private company "ownership" of my DNA in perpetuity when there is no restriction on what they can do with it.

We have been debating doing the DNA kits. We recently donated our remaining embryos from IVF for other couples to use. We could potentially have 6 other biological children out there one day.
Our clinic has a strict no sharing info for donors/recipients policy. So them finding us through Ancestry, etc, would be our only option. We would never reach out but would like to have our info out there should they want to someday.
I just feel like the industry has NO oversight and it freaks me out a bit. I’m not an especially private person- we have 3 Alexas and IDGAF if she listens to my conversations lol. But ownership and info about my DNA is a whole other level for me.

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate! May the coffee flow, batteries work, instructions be short, T supporters keep their conspiracy theories to themselves, and little ones be sweet. Haha. That’s my Christmas wish to all of you.

I didn't even think of that use of the DNA test, but it makes complete sense. I think I have a general distrust of Ancestry.com. It would be nice if there could be more regulations of that information and industry.

My aunt and uncle unexpectedly showed up. He asked if June (1.5 years) was reciting the pledge of allegiance yet. I got all squinty eyes because they’re raging conservatives.

My mom told me today that the choc chip cookie recipe she has been making for 20+ years is Hillary Clinton’s recipe. lol
Apparently back when Clinton was running against HW, Consumer Reports did a chocolate chip cookie bake-off between Barbara Bush and Hillary. Hillary’s cookie won. My mom has been using her recipe ever since.
I adore this story and couldn’t believe she had never told it to me before. lol

I mentioned here on this board that we applied on healthcare.gov and they sent our info to AZ Medicaid, AHCCCS because we don't make shit for $ right now.
My brain hurts from spending literally 3 hours on the phone answering questions to see if we qualify and what documentation they need and them talking to all 4 people in my family to boot. The computer system on their end kept hanging and doing something funky. my online attempt at following the directions in the letter they sent failed to connect my account to their data they received from health car.org, nothing matched, identity isn't verified. And no I don't remember the exact address of a random apartment we lived in 30 years ago for a month and other random facts. How do people do this if they can't spent 3 hours on the phone and remember silly stupid facts to verify their existence?

I’m sorry AmyG. What a headache. AZ Medicaid is particularly atrocious. During the recession years they used it as an opportunity to cut the rolls and made it ridiculously difficult to qualify. At point they basically barely cover single, non pregnant adults without a disability. I will always have a particular hatred for their refusal to cover hospital delivery of babies being placed for adoption around the time DS was born. All this to say, the frustration is justified and I hope your application goes through with no more effort.

Yes I know it's a very burdensome process to get any support in the State of Arizona dh has gone round and round on unemployment and sent same documentation we are at 4 times now. and now this with health care. both websites such with tons of glitches and jumping interfaces. but 3 hour phone calls are not doable regularly either. it made me cry, on the phone with a human, and then that means anxiety spiral sigh i just want dh to have health care. luckily his cardiologist is only $100 out of pocket with no ins. regular doc is actually more.

I’m really sorry. They should make it easy for people to access their services. Especially services that are paid with people’s tax money - they should be utilized. Something is majorly wrong with this system. That’s honestly great that the cardiologist has a flat rate for uninsured. So many docs won’t even take uninsured patients. Cardiologists usually get a bad rap, so sound like you found a good one. I hope it all works out soon and you get coverage.

AmyG I'm really sorry. Nobody should have to jump through hoops for basic medical coverage. Lord, that's more specific than the identity verification for a security clearance. Can you call your member of Congress? If they are a Republican you might me better off with Kirsten Synema. This kind of stuff is part of their job.
