Morning! I officially have a 6 year old, which is bananas. I started off the day by reading to his class, which was so cool, since I never get to see what goes on in there. He loved it and I'm so glad I did it! Now I am at work and just hoping the day goes quickly. How are you feeling today flamingo ? I've never heard of the option to get a shot instead of a course of antibiotics. Why wouldn't everyone choose that, it sounds fabulous! Aww! I did the same last week for Col's class and I loved it so much. I get why people fight over being room Mothers. I’m a room parent, but all parents are invited to the holiday celebrations. Is that not the norm?

Is that not the norm? our school is actually putting out new rules about who can come to school parties. It just ends up being a free-for-all with 20 extra people in a classroom. And really not safe. The rules will roll out before the Christmas party. We're expecting a lot of backlash.

Today at school they had a turkey trot race. Each class ran 1 group at a time (k girls, k boys, 1st girls, 1st boys, and so on). When Sierra’s group ran, she of course was taking up the rear by quite a bit, but giving it her all. All the kids were finished and the whole school was standing around the finish line (k-6). They all started cheering for S and chanting “go Sierra go”. I wasn’t there, but her aide told me about it. She said it was such an amazing and sweet moment and her as well as about 4 other teachers all teared up. I love this community I live in and the support that everyone gives 💜. That is so sweet. I teared up reading that.

Nutcracker rehearsal went well and was so cute. S loved seeing all of the “princesses” on the stage. Now I’m home watching the dancing with the stars finale. I’m mad James Vanderbeek got voted off last week.

Only the room Mom's are allowed at school parties. We're just a few miles from Sandy Hook so increased security is a constant theme. I hate that this is how our kids are growing up, but as long as it is, I'm okay with possibly overdoing it on safety measures.

For our class parties, they ask for a couple volunteers to man 'stations' (snacks, craft, game). All parents are invited, and B's teacher is OK with younger siblings tagging along, but to me that would be very chaotic so I skipped the Halloween one. From pics I saw, it seemed like most parents did not attend.
We have other opportunities to help out (reading practice, etc) so I'm good with that.

We asked for volunteers— got 1, and there were only 2 other parents that attended. I think the mid afternoon is tough for parents to get away. We’re trying a 945 holiday party to see if it’s easier for parents this time around.

The only class parties parents are allowed at are Halloween and Easter at our school. For the Christmas party they tell us it’s a chance for the teachers and students to celebrate together. But from my experience so far, almost all the parents go to the class parties when invited, sometimes 1 student will have 2-3 people there. It’s chaos and loud and stressful. So I think it’s their way of having a more peaceful celebration.

The ent said there were no stones in his gland that could cause blockages but it was very swollen. It’s possible he has benign recurrent parotitis which usually resolves around puberty. Great. Anyway, the labs showed 14 different bacteria in his ear/nose and the top 5 were streptococcus. I asked if we should check his strep titers again and he said yes. So now I’ll see if the pedi can order it or if the infectious disease dr can do it. He gave me another immunologist to call since I’m not happy with our current one. I’m taking M to the pedi tomorrow so I’m going to see if she can order the bloodwork. I think you can only get a booster every 12 months. Pretty sure we did it last year on his birthday.

tgrimes,I’m glad you’re getting a referral to another immunologist. With that many bacteria, I am sure that there is a doctor who can help him.

Its obnoxious.

You have to be VIPS approved to volunteer or attend anything at our school. It’s basically a background check.
Not many people attend class parties or things like that because the majority of parents at our school work. Last week they had field day and their thanksgiving party back to back. I would have liked to attend one of them but I’ve already missed so much work because of doctor appointments.
