I know I’m early but I couldn’t resist starting the Turkey Day week with this gem.
And, for the love of mashed potatoes and gravy, can we please have a normal, slow news week.

Can you imagine?! 😂 I have family members who would burn through their data so fast rather than use that password. 😭 ETA: Of course, they would never come to my house either so moot point.

Richard Spencer 's resignation letter is a doozy This isn't a resignation, though. He acknowledged his termination. Interesting word choice.

More proof that Rick Perry is a fucking moron: he calls 45 "God's chosen one."
(Full disclosure: I did not read past the headline.)

Can you imagine?! Hilarious! But like, I hope no one actually changes their WiFi password to this; don't let yourself be hacked that easily.

Always amazes me when the evangelical and religious folk claim 45 was the "chosen one". Like, f'real, you think that GOD chose this person who makes fun of the disabled, leers at/harrasses/rapes women, hates people of other cultures/ faiths/colors, etc. Doesn't say much about your God if you truly believe that.

As a religious person I am flabbergasted by this kind of language. And I am always stunned to see evangelicals speaking about him with such reverence. I know a lot who felt like Obama looked down on them, "clinging" to their religion and guns or however the sound bite went. But to eat up the shit this man puts out there, eagerly and without second thought, because he goes "I love the evangelicals," when it suits his purpose is really distubring. As a personal aside, MH is getting more religious over time. But his walk makes him less nationalist, less conservative, more loving and accepting. I have a lot of love for him. It makes me happy.

This is awesome. I'm a lapsed Catholic, but the whole damn point was supposed to be "love your neighbor". Help those who need help ETA: without judgment. Pay your fair share ETA: without feeling like you need to be paid back. Look for the good in others. Be forgiving. How the conservatives have somehow co-opted those values when they literally don't act on them is so disheartening. ETA: obviously this is based on my own experiences.

My evangelical cousin does nothing if she's not going to be praised for it. This weekend (per my H, who still follows her on FB), posted multiple times about picking names off their giving tree at church, then going shopping/ wrapping/ etc. Great deed normally! But because my H was following closely along, he noticed that if she didn't get enough likes on something, would delete the pic/ post until she got one where more people would give it a like or love and a bunch of "you're such a great/ Godly person!" comments. A lot of her churchy friends were also posting a bunch of commentary about how sad it is that people can't afford to get their kids gifts because they spend all their money getting their nails done/ the newest iphone. Such selfishness, dontchaknow!

jaygee I only read about half of it, but JFC. It also reminded me of an article I just read about a hack that occurred at the 2018 Olympics. The R.u.ssians are so good at manipulation in so many different ways. Whomever did the hack (the article didn't say who, just what nation/nationality) had so many layers upon layers that originally it was blamed on North Korea and China, then Ukraine, before someone dug down deep enough to figure out the true source. The article pointed out, though, that if it hadn't been for this person with some obscure knowledge about headers in the code in Word docs, the truth might not have been discovered.

So not complaining because certainly better than the alternative, but I’m at my families and honestly it’s too much CNN. Everyone here is super liberal, hates T, so all is good. But 24 hrs of CNN is a shock to my no cable, NPR listening system.

I use my son as an excuse to turn it off. I say the news is too scary for him. Lol. We did watch an All the Presidents Lies show on CNN last night and that was....yikes.

My mom bought my dad wireless headphones so he could watch MSNBC all day and she wouldn't have to hear it.

This is my H's grandparents. When we were in the mountains in October, his grammy would scream "OMG!!!" and we'd all have a heart attack and then she'd casually mention that Jeff Bezos isn't the richest man in in the world anymore or whatever CNN alert she would get.

Actually this fits perfectly with the Puritanical god of "predestination", where everyone was either going to heaven or they weren't, from birth, nothing you could do about it and no way to know -- except of course that then success and wealth and good looks were considered a "sign" that you were going to heaven, and being disabled or poor or powerless was a sign that you were not. I'm telling you guys, Puritanism fucked America up from the get-go. It shaped so many things about our culture and none of it is good.

A lot of her churchy friends were also posting a bunch of commentary about how sad it is that people can't afford to get their kids gifts because they spend all their money getting their nails done/ the newest iphone. Such selfishness, dontchaknow! I have cousins like that. I also have an aunt who swears up and down that she doesn't like 45, but that he is part of God's plan for the world and she gets pissed off if anyone challenges that. I remember on Inauguration Day, I had changed my FB profile picture to just all black and posted the cartoon of President Obama turning off the lights in the White House and the next panel was the entire U.S blacked out. She made some comment about how we have to have faith in God. I replied something along the lines of I'm glad she had her faith to bring her comfort, but that not everyone thinks the same way she does and that she was being dismissive of people's very real concerns. She sent me this long ridiculous screed about how I am not allowed to ever question her faith or God. It was something. She also told me that her praying would do more good than anyone who went to the protests and marches. ETA: And please know, that if you have faith in a higher power, I am not knocking that. Truly. I grew up going to church and I know there are good people of all faiths. My problem comes with people who use their faith as an excuse to be an asshole or people like my aunt who think praying is all that it is going to take to change things for the better without making any other effort. What about god helps those who help themselves? Plus free will and all that. Pray if it makes you feel better, but honestly unless there is actual boots on the ground working for change then nothing changes. Because sometimes the answer to prayer is to get out there and to the work. I'm not knocking anyones belief in a higher power, I just think at some point ONLY praying is akin to sticking your head in the sand.
