Oh, and DS2 climbed out of his crib today. And can also open doors so we have to keep all outside doors deadbolted. I’m not ready to convert the crib. 😖 I've caught lil fella over here trying to put his leg over the crib! and he's been opening doors for a while now and actually we also replaced our entry doors with keyed 2 side deadbolts. DS wasn't like this! He has trouble getting a good grip on the doorknobs. But H ran to the garage to get a load of laundry out and he heard “hi!” and DS2 was standing behind him smiling and waving. Our deadbolts are double sided keyed too. So now they stay locked. It’s a pain.

duskymonkey Thanks so much for the recommendations on the cheesecake, as well as the brussel sprouts. I’m having trouble finishing the nabisco choc wafer cookies....I wonder if a graham cracker crust work work just as well? Thanks for the tip about the tin foil too - I have a spring form pan - it normally doesn’t leak, but I’m going to triple foil just to be safe. Hope it turns out!!

Happy Thanksgiving (early) O17!
Ive been MIA making my cabinets but I wanted to update yall and say that we officially have a sofa cruiser! E decided one day that she can now pull herself to a stand and zip along the sofa (and transfer to nearby things). Still no independent standing or walking but this is huge!

If you don't mind inquiring minds, how is your W/D in the garage?

Taitai Happy thanksgiving! I know you're at work. Graham crackers will certainly work. Digestives I think will be delicious to sub with. I hope you'll have a good first time success with it unlike me. I am up so late now waiting for my apple pie now to cook! ???

So it's been insane here keeping up with making meals and cleaning up after the kids and taking them out. The kids are having such a good time hanging out with each other. We had a pretty good snow storm come through yesterday and got over a foot of snow too so we'll be having a white Thanksgiving. Temps are in the single digits out here which has been helpful with the pie making cos I've been chilling my dough in a tote box in the car hahaha! My cheesecake is hopefully thawing in the car now too. I am hoping will not be frozen tomorrow morning since my refrigerator is stuffed to the brim and I have a whole shelf taken up with the turkey brining. Once that's out tomorrow I can have more room.

However, this house is only 10 years old and it used to be inside. Until MIL routinely overfilled it and flooded the house causing them to replace the wood floor at least 3 times. So they moved it and turned the laundry room into storage with cabinets and drawers. I could move it back in but would need to rip all that out.

I hope everyone is full of delicious food, even if you didn't have Thanksgiving yesterday! H's extended family is fighting right now (something about H's grandpa selling all the family cows, even the ones that don't belong to him?) so my MIL hosted yesterday just for us and SIL's family. It was one of the better holidays we had in awhile. H's extended family is full of racist, sexist assholes who pretend to like each other only on the holidays when we're all stuck in an old farmhouse for a few house where all the kids are expected to be seen and not heard.... and yea, holidays are no fun there. I hope this is the start of new traditions because it was so nice to eat good food, let the girls run wild with their cousins, and actually relax for a few hours. MIL sent us home with lots of leftovers too and I have zero plans for today but browse online shopping, eat food, and nap!

danvers Glad to hear you had a nice Thanksgiving at your MIL’s! We are having our big feast on Sunday, since Thursdays here are just another normal work/school day. I did do a little online shopping - which I shipped to my parents’ place for pickup when we are back this summer. The shipping costs and import duties make it not worthwhile to send anything over here! I got some shampoo 20% off at Aveda and I ordered a ton of Shutterfly customized calendars, magnets, and ornaments for my family as Christmas presents. Oh, and our Christmas cards too, which Shutterfly is printing, addressing, stamping, and mailing for me 👍😁 Anyone else taking advantage of the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales??

August Blooms what did you all think of Frozen 2? DD1 and I really both enjoyed it! I made it up to episode 5 of The Crown but it’s been so busy here lately I can’t find the time to watch more? Have you finished Season 3?

danvers So glad to hear you had a rare great time at your ILs. My dad's family always bickers whenever we have a G2G - we're talking yelling and major drama crying and these are my childhood memories. August Blooms did you get anything good? Taitai I may get a few skeins of yarn from my fav yarn brand if I can figure out the amount I need from the pattern. There's really nothing I really need, maybe a new snow boots since I really don't have a proper one to play and roll with the kids out in the snow but I am too lazy to look.

I did have a W/D in the garage of the townhouse I lived with 2 room mates when I first got out of college and we let a cute neighbour use it in exchange for his grill. I totally forgot about that.

Today is the last day my sister's family is with us. The boys love their cousins and I am so sad for them to leave. I wish we lived closer so we could see them more often. Currently the adults are in a food coma after our 2nd Thanksgiving meal and watching Christmas Vacation. It never gets old. Hahaha! Today was a chill day. My nephew wasn't feeling good this morning and had a puking episode and running a fever. It was rough cos it isn't like he can go to the restroom and hard for him to even hold and aim into a pail. I feel awful for my sister and BIL, my nephew has gotten bigger and it's hard to see my sister haul him to clean him up in the bathroom. Luckily the bathroom is just next to their room. So this afternoon while lil fella took his nap, I took my other nephew and DS and went sledding in our neighborhood. The kids had a blast!

I am trying grocery pickup today for the first time - it’s new to our town but if it goes well this could very much free up a lot of time. I read great things about it on the main board so 🤞 Everyone else still in food comas or out shopping? duskymonkey yea for sledding! I love snow but we don’t get a lot of it where we live now. Taitai I think it’s Sunday over there already?? Good luck with your Thanksgiving!

danvers Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes - you were right on time! We had a really great feast - everyone loved the food and was in a good mood. We decorated the place for Christmas in the morning, so that put everyone in a festive spirit too. duskymonkey Glad to hear you all have been eating well and enjoying your sister’s family visit. I’m sorry to hear about your nephew getting sick - poor guy. I hope he feels better soon. That was nice of you to take everyone sledding! Also - the pumpkin choc swirl cheesecake...well, it didn’t really turn out. I don’t know if it’s my oven or what, but it ended up being like dark brown on the top and the middle would NOT firm up. I’m so sad about it. I must have done something wrong. When I cut it, it was more like a lava cake than a cheese cake 😩. I did make a backup dessert (pumpkin dump cake), which everyone loved and devoured, so not all was lost. But still - all that effort on the cheese cake!!

Taitai ☹️ I feel so so horrid about your cheesecake not setting up. Both my sister and I have been making this for many years and never encountered underbaking one of the issues. All that effort and ingredient expense 😭 I’ve had many recipes fail me. Do you have a convection oven? I forget if the recipe says to pour in boiling water for the Bain Marie? Was your shelf in the Lower 3rd of your oven?I no longer read the method since I make this every year and apart from the ingredient measurements, the method is committed to memory. Also sometimes when a recipe states to bake something for a certain time, I personally never follow due to unreliable oven temps. I always check earlier and trust my own judgement of doneness. Speaking of which I am actually getting an oven thermometer as I suspect my oven is off and needs calibration. This year my pumpkin pie took an additional 25 minutes to set up and my apple pie took waaay linger to bake. I’m glad your party was otherwise a success. Ugh. I feel so bad recommending the recipe to you.

I feel so bad recommending the recipe to you. Don’t feel bad duskymonkey! It’s okay - the parts that weren’t melty still tasted good! I’m not sure where I went wrong, but I suspect the humidity/heat and the difference in ingredients available to buy could be the culprits. I had the cake on the medium rack in the oven...my oven isn’t big like the American ones. Our oven has a fan, so I’m not sure if it’s a convention oven. We’ve had issues with it - there is a choc chip sponge cake that I can make with no problems in the USA, but every time I make it here, it falls apart. So, might just be something with where I live. Sigh. I am going to be back this summer, and will have access to a normal kitchen. I’m going to try to make it with my mom - I’m sure it will turn out!
