I’m thinking of pulling DS out of school on Friday to attend the Climate Strike rally. I’m pretty selective about what I take him to because he is hypersensitive to auditory stimuli, but this is something he cares about and the organizers are great role models. Greta especially. ❤️

I don't like this This is big: DOJ wants Supreme Court to hear challenge to CFPB structure, argues CFPB director's power is unconstitutional. BUT the government says court can sever appointment provision instead of wiping out the whole agency I don't like it either.
“Constitutional or not, Congress can end this circus once and for all by enacting a bipartisan, Senate-confirmed commission at the CFPB. The Bureau has been a political hot potato since day one and its mission is far too important for this chaos to continue.” -CBA President & CEO Richard Hunt
(CBA is Consumer Banking Association.)

I know it’s way better than it was a few decades ago, but smog is real and has immediate consequences for human health beyond climate change. We can’t slip backward on this without hurting people in both the short and long term.

Speaking of the Climate strike, NYC schools will be allowing excused absences for students attending it.

And the worst part was that one of the air quality boards posted a massive post on nextdoor (it spanned a couple counties and lots of cities) about one of the spare the air days and left the ability to comment on. Within an hour there were tons of comments and a large number were people questioning spare the air days and if they are even accurate and acting like it is a government conspiracy. My gosh. This is in “educated” Silicon Valley. People were like “eff this I’m driving and making a fire”. 🤦🏻♀️

The warm air traps colder pollution filled air in the valley and we dont see the sun and it gets SUPER cold. If you drive up to the ski hill you literally can see it covering the entire valley. When that happens county wide burn bans go into effect. Unless you only have wood heat in your house you will be fined for any burning of fireplaces, trash, etc. They encourage less driving, less idling in your car but there is no restriction. But pretty much everyone abides by the burn ban. I feel like there should be something for that for traffic pollution as well. However we dont have a lot of public transportation and unless you are in the core of downtown, so it makes it difficult.

And a lot of schools are doing climate/ environmental-related class work for those who will be in school that day. I considered pulling DD, but she’s 4, and crowds really overwhelm her. I was happy to find out that her teacher had something planned.

Yeah we have two categories - winter spare the air and summer spare the air because they are kind of different conditions. The winter ones are definitely more visible which was part of why people were questioning this one. They were like “the air looks clear”. It’s just so gross when you can see the smog, but even when you can’t see it, the air can be cruddy. Ugh.

jkjacq We have the inversion too, south of you. It is one of the most disgusting things I have seen. Some cities/towns have put idling bans in action. I think that helps, however it doesn't seem to stop people from warming up their cars in the winter.

Can anyone tell me how to feel about the feds rate cut decision today? They cut it again? Is it in the negative? I'm only half joking as I thought rates were pretty much as low as they could go.

It also usually means we dont have any snow and below zero temps so people are warming up their cars as well, which they can be ticketed for but you have to have an officer happen to see it.
We have them in the summer kind of like what jaygee, described but you can't 'see' it until you're above it.

Yeah, this isn't super encouraging. Time to refi as jaygee mentioned. Maybe this will help motivate prospective buyers (we have a townhome on the market currently).
