I’ve been unwell and have been spending a lot of time with Netflix. Because of this thread I’m watching The West Wing for the first time. I'm a couple seasons into Veep and keep confusing the show with real life. It's providing me with much comic relief though. Veep is the best.

Talking of The West Wing, the whole "music = sirens" thing really makes me think about all of the sustained trauma victims we have walking around and the kinds of seemingly innocent things that could be triggers for them. In my work, we regularly talk about the plight of children who hear gunshots every night. But I'm not sure we know the many ways that trauma manifests, and we certainly don't deal with it well enough.

We know this couple who are very politically active in the GOP. One of them works for a company that basically is a consultant for GOP campaigns (something like that). They come from families who have successful small businesses so I think their primary motivation for supporting Republicans is for tax reasons, but they do fall in line with a lot of Republican thinking. They claim to be horrified by Trump but one of them just went to a Lindsey Graham campaign event tonight. The cognitive dissonance is mind boggling. They still can't grasp the fact that Republican leaders = Trump.

sctiger I have seen this with some of my acquaintances too. Because they see themselves as more ethical and moral than Trump, they refuse to see that the GOP is Trump now. They believe the "fiscally conservative, socially liberal" stance (*which is so much BS in the first place) is still the case.

I keep forgetting but can we talk about the FEC?
Because at the end of the week we’re down to 3 members and that’s really not good

IFOR peacekeeping forces did an event at an orphanage and someone made the mistake of bringing balloons. Some kids were playing and popped several at once and all the children dropped to the floor crying. They were inconsolable.

I'm doing phonebanking for Moms Demand tonight, for the first time. I have a lot of anxiety about it, I was hoping to dip my toes in by texting but I guess this will be good, to rip the bandaid off. I really hate talking on the phone. I was a pollster for Quinnipiac University for a few months and I have to say it was kind of fun. 60-70% of the time you get a voice mail or answering machine of which you can some pretty entertaining messages. The other it helps you to find your radio announcer voice when you are talking to people. I was a top pollster for a time for them but only behind 1 guy who was in his 80s and had an AMAZING voice. His completes were unbelievable. Take it one call at a time and don't take what people say to heart to much when you accidentally call them during dinner.

For those interested in Brexit, Boris Johnson has asked for the suspension of parliament, which will all but guarantee a no deal Brexit. It is normal for parliament to take this kind of break, BUT the timing here is very problematic given the impending Brexit.
This could lead to a no-confidence vote in the government, but that would likely put Jeremy Corbyn in a temporary position of power and LOTS of people are not into that either. So who knows what will happen next.

Nobody was outright rude - other than a few hang-ups - and a lot of people were receptive and agreed to be patched through to their senators. There were a few who initially said no because they felt it was pointless because McConnell, and I got them to eventually agree to it. A lot of people thanked me and asked me to keep doing what I was doing, which was nice and made me want to keep going. People had some choice words for their senators and McConnell, and one sweet 85 year old lady called Gardner a cheap little prick. lol

With a pretty critical election upcoming. The board is bipartisan its supposed to be 3 dem and 3 rep.
He needs to gooooooooooooooo

BREAKING: A federal appeals court just upheld our block on a law in Indiana that would have allowed county election officials to kick voters off the rolls immediately without notice.
This is a win for democracy throughout the country.

So none now.

So they are just waiting on the documents to impeach? Is that the correct take away?
