I had not heard about that. Ugh. The world instability is truly frightening. Might not be entirely accurate but I’m feeling like it’s all because there’s far too many men in positions of power. And they’re all overcompensating.

Yeah, its not getting nearly as much coverage as the Mooch and 45 falling out but it was nuclear and apparently R is saying that there is no radiation but other countries like the Netherlands (I think) are saying uhhh hold up yeah there is.

I made the mistake of reading comments on Facebook about this. It's always interesting living in a conservative area of a very blue state! Being a teacher, usually legislation like this is pretty vague and if you spend ten minutes talking about it in one day, you've fulfilled your duty. Eta; I hope thats not what happens, but you know it will. I haven't read the bill and what grade levels it's meant to Target.

fatpony, Warren is in our town on Monday for a town hall. I would need to re-arrange a meeting and childcare to get there in enough time to probably get in, but I'm going to try.

Yeah, things have been bad for about 2-3 weeks. Don't look at your 401(k) balance. I made that mistake over the weekend. Oof. Good thing it's another 30 years before we need it. I looked and cried. H and I have started discussing buying more rental properties and taking money out of our investments with penalties because this shit *waves hands around* is fucking ridiculous. Among the hundreds of atrocities this administration is causing, they’re literally bankrupting our futures because Trump wants to compare dick sizes with fucking China. Hint, motherfucker - you’re LOSING.

This is also where my H is. He should be a 100% lock for the entire Republican ticket. He did not vote for Trump in 2016 and won't in 2020. He hasn't totally bought into something Bill Maher said that's stuck with both of us - that a vote for anyone but the Democrat candidate is a vote for Trump (as in, any nonvote, write-in, or vote for 3rd party), but he's close. That should terrify the GOP. It probably won't, but it should. This is my NH-based FIL as well. He didn’t vote for 45 (he voted for Gary Johnson). But he told us last week that he’ll never vote for another Republican or Libertarian for the rest of his days because of this current Administration. And this is someone who lives in one swing state, will most likely be moving to another swing state (NC) or a red state (TN) within the next 5 years when he retires. A vote for anyone with an R or L next to their name is actively supporting 45’s policies.

I know a lot of people who don't support Trump but still vote Republican for other races. It's so frustrating because they are still voting for Trump's policies. The Republican party is Trump whether they like it or not.

Lindsey Graham is going to be in town on Thursday for an event put on by our local paper. Our local Moms Demand will be there to talk red flag laws. I'm going to try and make it. I'll be sure to wear my Sandy Hook Promise shirt and RBG dissent earrings if I can make it.

Graham has supported ERPO (red flag laws) as recently as last week so a stare-down from some folks in red shirts will be great accountability

Disclaimer: this isn't financial or legal advice. I know, I know - part of my degree is actually in investments. I wouldn’t do it until the market rebounds a bit and even then most likely borrowing a loan against it to eliminate PMI which can save ~$75k but our retirement plan heavily involves real estate/ land and passive income regardless. My grandparents lost a third of their investments in 2008 and it fucked their retirement plans (my grandfather was 67 but still working for GE - they were going to move to Hawaii in 2009). I trust no one with my money after watching that clusterfuck go down.

This is tragic. And another awful symptom of the terrible healthcare system we have in this country. Even with Medicare, care for the elderly is so cost prohibitive. My grandmother who just passed needed constant around the clock care that my grandpa just wasn't able to provide, so my mother and uncle basically put their own lives on hold to help and do it because getting a home health aide is so expensive, and you have to be destitute for any program to cover anything. I feel for this family, and wish he had seen a different way out of it.

I'm doing the head tilty thing with the gaping mouth while blinking thing. No kidding. *That* is the problem with Trump for them? So this seems like an appropriate place to drop this. Apparently, using racist/homophobic insert any other hateful language is morally equivalent to taking the Lord's name in vain and dropping the F bomb according to my mom's H. He said it just couple of hours ago!

It's the only one of the 10 commandments they really remember I’m not even kidding that I was told by a T supporter on FB a couple months back that they don’t follow the 10 commandments anymore when I pointed out that the policy they were supporting was in opposition to the commandments. Lol. Ok. Sure.

So Hong Kong and China.
The airport in HK is closed for a second day and China is moving military vehicles to the border.
everything is just peachy I'm sure.

I can't remember where, but I read an article sometime in the last few months about how activists in Hong Kong have been sounding the alarm over China's encroaching on their freedoms even though they are only twenty years into their forty year agreement that was part of the handover from the UK. I wish I had done a deeper dive on it. The article was about the extradition law or something. I wish I could remember more.

IL governor signs bill mandating schools teach LGBTQ+ history: Good for Pritzker. Though I do wonder how this will play out in the more conservative rural areas of the state (like mine). Semi-related, but the latest Vanity Fair has a piece on Pritzker's cousin, Jennifer, who is the black sheep in the family by being conservative. She even donated to 45's first campaign and has given somewhere in the range of seven figures to the GOP over the years. She will not be giving more, though, because of 45's ban on trans service members and the GOP silence about it. (She is trans.) It was an interesting article. The amounts of money these people have is insane. ETA: COUSIN, not sister.
