So we're still stigmatizing mental illness. We're still not addressing the actual problem of weapons of war available easily everywhere.

“I am open and ready to listen” LOLOLOLOL k. It was half a sentence; he just left off the part about P.ut.in telling him what to do.

That whole speech sounded like a war cry against the Internet. I smell a Internet censorship bill coming. #fucksopa

Also FYI don’t read the comments on any WaPo articles this morning. It’s ok that adult people were killed, because aborted babies are killed every day.
The mental gymnastics against gun control is astounding.

Good lord Are mental health checks going to check for racism? Is that going to be on the sheet? I'm a xenophobic racist Yes No?
THATS NOT THE ANSWER
David Urban is on (fmr 45 campaing advisor) Hes making the argument that we've had shooters since the 60's with the guy in the bell tower. Also machine guns have been around for a very long time.
Yeah asshole but they were not widely available to the public. Fuck

I saw a news story last week about local stores selling bulletproof backpacks. It makes me sick to my stomach that it is a even an option and that I'm considering it. The lax gun laws here make me very uncomfortable.

Then I saw some comment about how they wouldn't stop bullets from an AR-15 and went into a rage again, before asking a family member to look into the details. *poof*

DAMN Scuitto just told Urban, that look the facts are that if GOP votes for gun restrictions they get primaried. Their NRA ratings matter.
Also we asked 50 republicans on this show and no one took us up.

The lax gun laws here make me very uncomfortable. These were being advertised around here last August for back-to-school. I considered it, despite the cost, but then realized that my kids have their backbacks when they are walking into school at the beginning of the day and when they are leaving school at the end. They hardly have access to their backpacks at all during the school day because they have to stay in the kids' lockers.

The lax gun laws here make me very uncomfortable. My H almost bought one this morning for us to use as a diaper bag after reading about the parents of the 2 month old who died. I’m starting to spiral. The GOP isn’t going to do shit. The orange shitbag in the White House blames everyone but himself and his own hateful rhetoric. Twitter won’t shut his accounts down despite blatantly going against their ToS. And they alll conveniently ignore that every country on earth has people who play violent video games, have people who have mental health issues and THEY DONT HAVE MASS FUCKING SHOOTINGS EVERY SINGLE DAY. (Per usual, playing video games and having mental health issues should not be conflated).

He did the same thing when he visited a wildfire site in California, called it “Pleasant” instead of Paradise. The whole town was destroyed and dozens of people died. But he didn’t care enough to learn the name of the town.

Beto: "Well Jesus Christ of course he's racist."
Talking about Trump of course. I like the way he's handling this and calling out the racist rhetoric that has lead to this. Beto isn't holding back.

If the president is urging the FBI go deeper on investigating hate crimes, does that mean they need to continue to investigate the president? and invoking the death penalty for hate crimes/domestic terrorism.
He incites violence daily. He invokes racism and hate at every single rally. He tweets/retweets nationalist trope.
He should be standing trial by his own words.

I’m so angry. And I feel helpless. I’m thrilled that MDA has been seeing results and that the NRA seems to be imploding but there is so much ignorance (willful ignorance, at that) in this country. I don’t understand how we can change that. I’ve spent a not insignificant amount of time looking at job boards for other countries. It’s my latest daydream, I guess.

I love my children and I know how lucky I am to have them, but there are days I really regret bringing children into this fuckery.I am so here. Between this and the climate change discussion we are having in this country.

The middle schools here don't allow it though. I'm not sure what the situation will be for my 1st grader this year. Last year their backpacks were on hooks in the classroom

I think you have a point, but it's funny because him speaking out now is what is making me think-- hmmm, Beto might be a good President after all... (I'm still hoping for Elizabeth Warren this morning, but it changes like every day).

MH transferred here a few years ago specifically because there are good schools and it's a relatively "safe" area. We didn't realize how many 45 supporters there would be and how much people would push to make the gun laws even LESS restrictive. I want to live in a bubble

Dan Rather
"To my fellow members of the press, I suggest we refrain from quoting the presiden’ts words from prepared speeches into headlines and tweets without context. He sometimes says the right thing. The real questions are what he does and what he really believes."

I feel so bad for the people who were just going about their business this weekend. It's such bullshit.

Which is really the most helpful thing he could do right now, especially being from TX.

The bubble thing aside, no child should have to fear going to school, going to the store for errands, going to the movie theatre-- it's just not right.
