What a great day that will be!!! Oh I'll be throwing myself a party for sure. *ETA: But an introvert party, like no people. Just me. Maybe go on a cruise with my family or something. Come visit me. I like to party. Then you can go on a cruise out of Galveston.

I'd also be happy to come back as my MIL. But after she retired. I do not want to be an engineer. I’d just like to be retired. From anything. September 1, 2038...freedom 57 not that i'm counting...

Whenever I talk to my BFF about work I say that I don't really need a break because it doesn't matter how long the break is, I won't want to come back. Like taking a 2 month sabbatical just seems like more misery to know how good life would be without work and then to return to it. I just need to win the lotto and never come here again. I'd be like in that episode of Reno 911! where they all won the lotto (there was a glitch so something like 1500 people won as well, so in other words the jackpot was going to be split a lot) and they all walk into their morning meeting one by one telling each other to suck it until they realize they didn't win much. Dr. Bob who works here is like 74 and still going strong full-time. Why I don't know. He's an MD with at least 4 sources of retirement income. He's a grumpy little old man who dresses like a hobo and apparently has no life or desire to have a life outside of this place. It's bizarre. I'll be throwing up the deuces the day I am eligible to. I have a coworker that is 70. He doesn't want to retire because he said, "I would die at home of solitude if I retire." I.....would not have this problem. Both of my in laws had issues when they did early retirement. They just had to find something to keep themselves busy part time. My FIL does taxes (he's a weirdo) and my MIL does child advocates. Although I think she stopped doing that because it was too difficult on her emotions once she had grandkids. Now I think she does something called neighbors in action. (Please ignore if you don't want to hear from the nerdy psychologist me), but yes, people definitely need to have a plan for retirement that's more than "sleep in as late as I want!" Because that gets old fast, especially when your stupid body has been programmed to wake up early for so long that "sleeping in" is 0700. It's very common for a period of depression to follow the initial excitement and elation of retirement. I have many ideas of ways to fill my time for retirement...but I'm only 37 so unfortunately that plan will have to be put aside for now.

To add to this, there are many couples in the school that mh and I worked at and the guidance is that the couple should not retire together as to give each individual a chance to transition (for most of the reasons you mentioned), it’s also an easier transition financially. On a separate note, twin secretaries in two different buildings in the district started on the same day and retired together this year. They, along with their husbands, are moving to Florida to live across the street from each other.

lfig I'm so glad the meds work well. I'm pouring one out in honor of your Texas toast though. A while back I made the girls pierogis and burned them. Madison very sincerely asked me if I can make them for them again but next time not burn them. I'm right on top of that Rose! And I didn't even have the excuse of a medical emergency. I am just not the most attentive chef.

Downsize, people my age, and easier to travel when I want There's a 55+ community the next street over to me (those bastards use our pickleball court nonstop but won't let us use their tennis courts). Those people are all in on their lifestyle. Some of them have custom-made license plate frames that say something like "100% fun! Jubilee life!" One of the granny's there has purple hair and is always walking her little dogs. They have their own pool which would be right up your alley.

I love the idea of a retirement community on one hand - my parents are obsessed with their place! But not if it requires moving away from friends and family. DH is always talking about the best places to retire based on taxes, being near an airport, etc. But I'll want to be as close to the boys as possible so we can hopefully be as helpful to them as my ILs are to us.

There is a teacher in my kid’s school who is starting her 51st year of teaching this year. Her goal was 50 but she’s still going. She’s has taught all 50 years in the same classroom of the same school.
I can retire at 55 as long as I go back this year. I want to do all the things for my grandkids if my kids chose so stay near enough to us.

We drove to the beach at 9 last night in horrible thunderstorms. Today was suppose to rain half the day but it was beautiful when we woke up. DD forgot all her bathing suits so first we went and bought some new ones then had a few nice hours at the beach. C is sleeping now and then we are going to my BIL’s house to swim tonight. I love being close to DH’s family when we are here.
Tomorrow DH’s boss and his family are coming over for the day. We just got some crab traps because T has been begging to go crabbing so we will probably try that on Sunday.

I definitely hope to be involved in future grandchildren's lives (maybe even regular daycare) and go on vacations with my adult children. Hopefully that will pan out.

This teacher is also a cousin of my dad's, so we talked about it awhile back. She said this would likely be her last year of teaching...I told her if she gets Evie, that will send her straight to retirement. When we went to kindergarten round up, this teacher came up and got Evie to go do the activities. I'm excited to find out if she will be her teacher!

My mom decided at the last minute to take the boys on a trip this weekend. So they leave at 10am tomorrow and will get back mid day sunday. But literally everyone has plans Saturday night and cant hang out with me while A goes to the bachelor party.

I think my dad and SM may live part time in the villages in Florida eventually. My grandma bought a place there last year (at 91) and my aunt and uncle live there and seem to love the Truman show lifestyle.
I had a colleague that I didn't know well, but he retired and moved out west and died by suicide within a year💔. It's such a change, I can imagine it's hard to adjust.

Long day here. My SM sent bathing suits and N was hesitant about her bikini but apparently LOVED it during water play and got more wet than ever.
I had my 30 week appt and doctor confirmed it's normal for me to feel completely unprepared and not paying attention to this pregnancy and I'll be excited when the baby arrives and 3rd kids are often well adjusted. Hoping she's right bc I feel like I am neglecting this kid already.
And then had to drive cross town for a meeting , then back, and then home. Now pizza and movie time.
Oh and one vent, mh said we should invite his mom this weekend when I asked if we should see if friends were free. He asked her LAST night. She can't come and now super late to make plans. Basically never having people over😣
