I'm going to chime in on the kidney thing as it's becoming quite a boiling point in some kidney fb groups I'm in, home dialysis is not for everyone, whether they physically can't, or don't want too, but the major consensus is it's not a good thing.. I have heard horror stories of some of the centers, and I hope it doesn't make it worse.. most would rather, a) focus on prevention, to avoid esrd in the first place, b) more donor awareness, either through living donations or gift of life , c) more $$ put towards a viable artificial kidney, some so called medical people have said its coming in 2 to 5 years.. For the last 10 yrs and counting Also insurers hate paying for dialysis. So ultimately if there is more in home dialysis it saves insurance companies $$$$$$. I suspect this new policy is just another gift to insurers from 45's administration.

I don't have a lot of faith in the Trump administration regarding healthcare reform considering they are currently in court to try to dismantle ACA. I also highly doubt they have the right people in place to make educated decisions on how to best go about implementation of this EO. Would love to be proven wrong.

Headline Round Up
DT expected to issue EO for citizenship question on census. This is fortunately expected to go back to court, if it happens.
House JC voted to subpoena Kushner and Sessions in ongoing DT obstruction investigation.
WH trying to push for spending deal to raise debt ceiling. Treasury Dept has run out of cash faster than expected (who would have guessed that to happen!?) Pelosi is trying to get Mnuchin to agree to a broader 2 year spending bill. This is putting the possibility of a end of FY shutdown on the table (I guess no big surprise... inevitable really).

Thank you all for explaining the kidney stuff. I was trying my hardest to figure out how it would benefit 45, since we all know he doesn't do anything that doesn't benefit him or his family.

Yea, my mom workes in dialysis clinics for years. This EO is getting major head tilts from me. HowTF does he think these things will be accomplished? Right? Like, yeah, ending kidney disease would be great, but while what he says sounds nice, it's pretty much meaningless based on what's actually happening. ETA: And there's so many factors when it comes to KD (genetic, PKD, diet induced, trauma induced, drug induced, induced by we don't even know what--and that's just my layperson understanding of it) that some random ass EO from a guy who definitely understands less than I do isn't going to do squat when it comes to the research already being done.

I REALLY want to throw the amount of EOs he has written in two years back in some of my coworkers faces, because "OBAMA did EVERYTHING by EO". Even when confronted with a printout of how many 44 vs 43 vs 42 and how O wrote the least amount they dug in.
FTR clinton 8 years 364 W 8 years 291 Obama 8 years 276 45 2.5 year 115 (which would trend to ~480 if he were to stay for 8 years)

Kind of politics related. A teacher at the school I just left posted a Matt Walsh video that "absolutely wrecks the transgender argument." I have an inclusive schools article that I'm tempted to post as a comment. Or maybe send a message. Or just unfriend (which I was probably going to do anyway, since she posts bullshit similar to this, like being "pro life" but not really).

And believes transgender is an “argument”? My gosh.

She is very nice to her students and to the other teacher but I feel like it's all fake because she judges everyone from an evangelical Christian lens. She teaches 6th grade language arts. I am transferring schools next year and would never encounter her again most likely. It upsets me that there are people like this in education because how can you truly advocate for all students if you believe this crap?

But the trans community is one of my hills and I can't let that go.

Perhaps a seminar on why transgender isn’t something that is an “argument” should be done before school starts. Or they at least have some form of proof when she does something else that’s insanely ignorant and they need to can her.

Also, “very nice to her students” only goes so far until one of those students is transgender, or gay, or has an abortion, or has gay parents, or or or and then her hypocritical evangelical ass won’t be so nice. Maybe to their face, but you certainly know she’s judging them and treating them differently.

Not sure if I should include her name or let them know that it should be addressed in a faculty meeting. I talk about supporting the LGBTQ community so this is where I need to step in and practice what I preach, right? Edit: I sent her a PM about risk factors of LGBTQ students and how they need to know they can count on us all as allies.

sctiger, I would include her name. I mean when you post shit like that on social media as a teacher then you get to own the consequences. I know at every school in America they have talked about our social media presence. Now if you're too dumb to realize that includes hateful content like she did, too bad. I have seen teachers get in trouble and even fired for far, far less. If you want, send it from an anonymous email. The school may not do anything, but it is the right thing to do.

I guess 3rd after law enforcement and medicine since they directly impact life and death, education is a major area where there needs to be more training-pre-sevice and continuing professional development-around race, biases, and discrimination since teachers are overwhelmingly white. Like we have to earn continuing ed credits in specific areas like literacy and technology. There should also be required credits in having non-asshole beliefs.

Especially since so many educators now stress to students that what you post on social media can and will come back to haunt you. Whelp, what goes around, comes around. You post hateful shit on Facebook, I don’t hesitate even remotely to screenshot that shit and send it to your employer. Not sorry when you’re a person in a position of authority when you very clearly shouldn’t be. (Not YOU you... the general racist/sexist/misogynistic/xenophobic/homophobic you)

The lineup for my state professional conference just came out, and two keynotes are about Civic Engagement and Voting. I'm super excited.
