With Bolton around I don't think anything regarding Iran and conflict is that tin foily. Truth. He and Pompeo are both itching to drum up a war with Iran. And I don't trust anything either of them say in regards to this matter, for obvious reasons.

So not only is today Trump's birthday, it's Joe Arpaio's as well. Racist birds of a feather.

Ok so after looking more closely, the Flint thing makes sense. The MI AG says that the previous prosecutor didn't examine all of the evidence or examine much of it appropriately. That could make it harder to secure convictions. And if defendants aren't convicted of these charges, the state can't take another whack at it bc of double jeopardy. So it's better to drop these charges without prejudice, conduct a thorough examination, then bring new charges once you've got an airtight case. I assume that's what they'll do.

Oh lord. Can you imagine Kellyanne testifying before Elijah Cummings Cummings announces that the House Oversight Committee will hold a hearing later this month with the OSC and has invited Kellyanne Conway to testify, too. He says Trump should fire Conway. t.co/sgFSG6JasV

I'm debating trying to go to the Daily Show's Trump Twitter library during lunch today. It's only a few blocks away from my office.

Murphy pointing out the Trump admin's covert attempts to derail Medicaid:
Remember that scene in Titanic when Rose tells Billy Zane half the people on the boat will die? And he replies "Not the better half."? That's this administration in a fucking nutshell.

The crisis at the border breaks my heart. Our government is lying to us- this is really no different from internment camps and from when the Nazis first started committing atrocities against the Jews. It may not be an all out Holocaust but it's an atrocity and millions of people are turning a blind eye and choosing not to believe it. I don't know what I can do besides contact my reps (William Timmons just got a message from me about this), vote, and donate to organizations such as Together Rising.
I hope there is a special place in Hell for Republican leaders and their followers.

I am not in favor of OTC BCP. For many women, getting a refill is the only reason they actually get their pelvic exams and cancer screenings. And something that manipulates your hormones is not something I think should be used without a physician's care. I agree. As an example Birth control increases the risk of clotting including pulmonary embolism. The risk is fairly low but if you already have a disorder that predisposes you to clotting that would be a bad combo. Plus yeah if it is OTC insurance won't cover it. Yep. This is why I can’t ever be on hormonal bc again. I think it’s a scary thought about women getting hormonal bc OTC and never having a dr consult.

So SS2 is living with us now, and today I made a joke about the baby having Trump sized hands. He made some comments about how neither Hillary or Trump was a good choice and said some not entirely factual stuff. I sort of shrugged and said that I voted for Hillary. He asked which was the lesser of two evils and I said, “probably the not racist one.” Which he acknowledged and made a comment about Trump’s sexism. I don’t want to make it *a thing* especially because I don’t know where his mom stands and I think he’s at that age where he wants to have intelligent adult conversations without maybe truly understanding the issues. So, does anyone have any suggestions on helping him navigate the current news cycle that seems pretty biased depending on where you land? This is our next generation of voters and I’d like him to have the facts. Is there anywhere that breaks it down to a teen level? Tagging dc2london because I feel like this is sort of where she was headed with her ideas on civic engagement/knowledge for youth.

Maybe instead of focus on 45 vs everyone pick a couple issues and explore that. Have him defend the side he’s not naturally on.

I definitely don’t want to make it a debate about Trump, but I realized he was backing up his points with inaccurate information. And not necessarily biased information, but more like misunderstood or not really understanding the issues entirely. So, I’m trying to figure out how to get him to a place of understanding and competence in 4 years when he’s old enough to vote. But I do think focusing on individual issues could help for now. It just struck me that a lot of new voters probably are not working with complete information or knowledge on where to get that info. They are working with snippets they hear from their parents or peers.

bunnyfungo I would focus on teaching him how to research on his own. How to spot good sources, check multiple sources, not accept things at face value, etc. Maybe share with him that chart of the media on the skews liberal to conservative scale. You could show him the recent stuff about those deep fake videos so he can see how easy it is to manipulate even videos, etc. Or other highly edited clips intended to deceive the viewer or manipulate feelings. I feel like a teen might be interested in that because it’s tech and social media. Then maybe tell him you want to discuss an issue and ask him to do some research to prepare. Something like climate change, minimum wage, college tuition/debt - something that interests him but isnt super controversial. To me the biggest thing to teach the next generation is how to form their own opinion, research an issue in the age of so much biased media and social media that is infiltrated by money and outside forces.

Also, I saw an interview where they went to college campuses in advance of the 2018 elections and the students they talked to felt they didn’t know enough to vote. This is in CA where every voter gets a booklet of all the information - pros and cons of each thing we vote on, endorsements, all kinds of info. I’m sure no one had showed these students where to get that info. Or how to research ballot measures or individual candidates for lower level positions. Or even what those positions are. So voter 101 education is also needed.
