peachsmama I don't know how you can sleep on a couch pregnant. I mean, I know how you can sleep, but ouch, I would hurt! Nothing exciting here today. I have a dentist appointment this afternoon. tgrimes did you sister's kids have school today? I saw a bunch of school in OKC closed due to the weather that is expected. I hope they are safe and nothing happens!

I don't remember schools closing due to the potential for tornadoes, but likely because that isn't common in KS. I hope nothing happens today and they are safe! My H is driving to Wichita and back today and already sending me pictures of the sky. He's a big weather guy, so I'm sure I'll get pics all day. I told him to be safe.

This is only the 2nd time they've closed for tornadoes. I don't recall them ever doing it before the May 3rd tornadoes my freshman year in college. Something like 74 tornadoes that day and kids were still at school. It was horrible. They've cancelled because of ice though.

I'm at work and I'll be leaving after lunch to take M to the elementary school for GT testing. I have missed so much work this year. If I wasn't salaried, I'd be fired by now.

Maybe I'll feel different when we are past the tornado season this year, since they're predicting it to be one of the worst we have seen in a long time.

Is GT a different class or a pull out for kids who test in? our district doesn’t have anything like that until they reach the upper level grades.

Morning. We had a busy weekend and I’m actually glad it’s Monday. I currently have 2 of my sisters kids and another friends 3yo here. Luckily they are all playing somewhat nicely in the basement. H is the only one causing issues.
It was near freezing this morning but should warm up by afternoon so hopefully we’ll get outside. Until then, laundry and cleaning are on the agenda.

Hi! I'm exhausted and also sort of happy it's Monday b/c I am back and work, so not parenting.
B has been having such a rough time these past few months and it's just been wearing me out, mentally and physically.
Yesterday, I had an epiphany and I think he might be having trouble with lactose which is causing a majority of his issues. Lunch time he had a full glass of milk (which he doesn't often do anymore), and had an AWFUL afternoon/evening. Doubled over in pain, whining, etc. So I'm removing dairy and seeing if that changes things. He has his appt with the allergist on Thursday and I am going to discuss this all with him.

tgrimes, I, too, am curious about the testing. Also, did I miss an update? How is M? Was she better after the other night? How's H been since his tube removal?

Is GT a different class or a pull out for kids who test in? our district doesn’t have anything like that until they reach the upper level grades. No different class or pull out until middle school. The reason they push for them to be tested now is because it's an oral test instead of a written test and once you're in, you're in. This is extremely helpful because of the school district we are in. You can get into other schools through a magnet program, but if you're GT it's an extra plus. Right now, our elementary school is excellent. Middle school is so-so. By the time M goes to that school, we're hoping it will be better. If not, there's another middle school a little further away, but you can only get in through the GT program. High school is a big nope. We'll either have to do a magnet program, pay for private school or move.

I gave her zofran after the first time she vomited and she got sick 2 more times after that. But it was within an hour. H is a little snotty. He was digging in his ear over the weekend so I looked in there. One ear looked fine, the other one was bloody and I could see some white stuff through the hole in his eardrum. That's the ear that the tube had pushed itself behind the eardrum though, so I'm assuming it's normal. I already put a call into the ENT though.

tgrimes I hope you get in and the schools improve so you don't have to worry about it by the time your kids get there. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that H stays healthy. Honestly, I don't know how you and lfig and anyone else I am missing with tons of medical issues for their kids do it. These last few months have really been awful for my mental state, between the awful allergies, stomach bugs, cramping, insomnia, etc. It is such a constant stress on me. I have so much respect for you ladies that just keep it moving through all that.

lfig deserves way more credit than I do. In all seriousness, there's no way I'd be able to handle all of these appts and missed days if I hadn't been at this job for so long. I get 4 weeks vacation and 2 weeks sick each year. Because I'm salaried I only get docked time if I'm gone more than 4 hours. It's definitely stressful and I'm tired of worrying about their health all the time. It's always something.

You both have also had your share of struggles, and you’ve managed like the kick ass moms you are. All of us really have faced challenging times. But we are moms, and we push through and do what needs done. It’s what moms do. Do we always do it with grace and composure? Most likely not. But we are there. And we take care of our kids. And we give them what they need. I feel like I don’t know life as a mom without all the craziness of medical stuff. Because it’s been from the start for us. I am lucky to work for the govt with a good leave policy. I earn quite a bit of annual leave and sick leave. And I have understanding bosses who have compassion for our situation. I know everyone doesn’t have that so I am thankful!

I have missed more time in the past 2 months then in any year prior. But I've been here for 24 years so no one cares. It's honestly the worrying that is killing me. And I totally over-stress about everything and I can't stop worrying. It's not even the big things I worry about, it's all the little things... is he going to be up all night? Is his brother going to catch something? Am I going to get another phone call to pick up? but it eats at me 24/7, especially when I am trying to sleep, I just keep staring at the monitor to make sure he's sleeping, so I miss the time I can actually sleep! And I'm constantly trying to think, did X make it worse? Should I change Y? And MH gets none of it. He sleeps great, and overall doesn't worry about any of it. Of course, he has been OOT for all of the worst days/nights.

Morning.
We’re still living the weekend life so MH took the kids to the park so I could vacuum, mop, dust the house and get laundry done. He’s pretty much had zero parenting since Friday so I needed to get some stuff done.
The shed base is coming along and hopefully we’ll get the shed up by next weekend. Growing up my Dad did all this handy shit without complaining and loved it; so it’s times like this where I have to pull patience from every part of my soul, because although MH tries hard he’s not handy. He’ll get it done and it’ll be good, then he’ll talk about it as if he’s built his family a mansion.

jewels I get this so much. Worry wise I feel like I’m at an 11 at all times, it sucks. I wish I could worry less. Hugs, we’re her for you if you need to talk. Eta it is one of the reasons I’m staying at a job that has no real career future. If been here 14 years, they’ve seen me grow up. The support and understanding I get from colleagues is amazing.

Also hi! I felt like I needed to do something about the mess that is our house. So I put away tons of laundry, purged 3 trash bags from our pantry/storage cabinet and got rid of a lot of clutter. Dh is out getting pizza, the kids are in bed and I’m putting on fixer upper, give me all the Waco houses.

Hi girls!
I took Dude to a Ninja warrior class Saturday which he absolutely loved.
We also met with a new therapist for X who does DIR Floortime and I think we’re getting started with her services once a week.
I’m having a significant marriage crisis and posted about it in the group.

tgrimes, on paper our elementary is good and our middle/high school are horrible. My oldest however had a terrible elementary experience in the “good school” and is doing so great in the “bad school.” We figure we can fill in the academic cracks at home, I can’t recreate the opportunities he has to interact with an extremely diverse group of kids at school. Have you read about the new adversity score the SAT is assigning each kid? It probably won’t last but if it does, it’s a big win for my kids.

They're closing schools here because the teachers and administration are failing the students. We still can't get a superintendent that will stick around and the board is at each other's throats. It's a cluster fuck. FTR, my hesitation isn't because of the diversity of the kids. I mean, I'm in the middle of Houston so no matter which school we attend it's a diverse group of kids. I apologize if my original post made it sound that way.

There was nothing in your post to apologize for and those issues sound like things that at least have a shot at being resolved if the right leadership can be found. I was talking to my neighbor the other day about how less than half of the kids from our neighborhood elementary go to the public middle school because of it’s unfortunate ranking but how all the kids who go have a great experience.

Different country, different system, but I had the best experience at a school with terrible test results. It was because they cared about the kids, not about ratings. Ds is currently at a school that doesn’t score well at preschool level. Sole reason is they refuse to test kids this little, I’m so glad they do it this way and I’ve never seen a kid learn more and dying to go school every single day of the week . ETA private school are almost non existent over here. All schools are funded by government, special school like a Waldorf/Montessori/Dalton get their extra means from a voluntary donation made by parents. In our case that donation is around 400 per year.

There is no diversity at the school Evie will be attending, at least not in her grade, from who all attended kindergarten round up. It doesn't surprise me, I live in a small suburb 30 minutes outside of a metro area. It's the same school I attended my entire life and there were 2 families in town that weren't white, 25 years ago.
