Can someone explain the whole Trump suing Banks to keep from handing over his documents subpoenaed by Congress? I got nothing except he's guilty AF of something and wants to keep it from the light of day for as long as possible. Legally, I'm not sure he can stop a Congressional subpoena - but the longer he keeps fighting, the longer nothing gets released until the challenge is resolved.

They have requested the documents from him. Hes refusing to turn over. Therefore they are using subpoena power to obtain the documents.
Its pretty clear cut, that congress CAN ask for these.

There are so many interesting hearings this week Its Barkan, not Barker
Anyway, he is having to give his statements from a computer instead of talking.
If you've heard him on tv or PSA then you know he struggles speaking. His quote was I'm not up to the task today.
He is so inspiring.
He has a book coming out soon

I think he is guilty as hell for lots of things. I just didn't realize Congress could subpoena financial records of a sitting president. Has this been done before? I have weird feels about this.

So yes
And most recent presidents have not had to be subpoena'd since they release their tax returns and financial statements.

Nailed it. It isn't usually done bc sitting presidents usually engage in far more transparency as CANDIDATES

There is a woman behind the ranking member who I SWEAR looks like Brett K's wife. Does she work for him? Or am I crazy Medicare for all hearing.
ETA Google tells me no she is the town manager for Chevy Chase and makes 66k/year. But I swear this woman could be her twin

I dont know how anyone listening to the doctors, nurses and chronically ill testify can argue that expanding the healthcare system in this country to cover EVERY PERSON is a bad thing.
But its 30 trillion dollars and people like their insurance seems to be completely boneheaded reasoning.

Only healthy people like their insurance. Then they get sick and realize it was garbage all along, they were just lucky.

Talking about how we value you and supports a war tax but we just dont have the money.
Dr. Navi goes you made our point when you said the men and women serving are happy with their coverage. I've never had a patient leave AMA from the VA like I have in the public and private hospitals I work at.
BAM
ETA its about 2 hours 15 minutes into the hearing when this happens

I will say, for insurance, we actually really have great insurance now and we "don't pay" for it. The reality is, that we do. It's that much extra that could be part of my husband's paycheck that isn't, BUT I can see how someone who doesn't really think it through would be scared of losing what they think is a good deal. ETA: The healthcare system needs to be fixed, though.

or
2880/year for me 8141/year for my employer
Thats on par with what the budget witness said it would cost to cover every American.

Porter, Jayapal, Schiff, Omar are all in attendance in this hearing as spectators.
I didnt understand the reasoning that this committee has this instead of budget or oversight.

Well it wouldn't be oversight, but it could be HELP. This hearing is in Rules bc they actually want to bring the Bill to the floor

So the goal of this hearing would be to help the committee determine how the Bill should be reported to the floor and how much debate would be needed, who can submit amendments and when, etc

Because at the beginning they were saying they never get bills like this, and then later it was 'because there's a new sheriff in town'.

I'm still listening to this hearing and I keep going back to something Warren said in her town hall
Quit defending the insurance companies. Yeah you might like your employer coverage but you dont have any control over it. Your employer could decide to drop that plan tomorrow and you have no say in it.

Will this bill provide free healthcare for illegal immigrants?
UGH
Answer, there is nothing in this bill to exclude UNDOCUMENTED immigrants.
Also bitch, guess what we already pay for people who are here documented or undocumented and uninsured

"You didnt ask for input from republicans.
We may be in the minority here but the Senate and Pres are Repub."
Look lady YOUR party doesnt want to do ANYTHING. You spent how many years not doing shit.
So when the committee actually IS trying to do SOMETHING, maybe instead of whining offer rational humane suggestions.
