A fire also broke out yesterday at a historic mosque
Were they able to contain it and preserve most of the mosque? The article didn't really say. Seems to be another accident (caused by children?). Yesterday was not a good day for holy sites.

@neolithicsheep: Please donate here to help rebuild the three black churches in Louisiana burned by a white supremacist in a series of hate crimes. The loss of any sacred space is a blow to the heart of the community it sustains. www.gofundme.com/f/church-fires-st-landry-parishmacedonia-ministry@neolithicsheep: Al Aqsa Mosque, one of the holiest sites in Islam, also suffered a fire yesterday. You can donate to help with its restoration here: muslimhands.org.uk/appeals/masjid-al-aqsa@neolithicsheep: I know a lot of people want to be part of the restoration of Notre Dame de Paris, and that is a good impulse to want to help rebuild a beautiful place. But Notre Dame has billionaires fighting over who can donate more. The 7th District Churches and Al Aqsa don't.

Because reading doesn't matter. ::angry face::
Our school district just eliminated their last certified librarian position. They only had 1 left to cover 9 schools but the levy didn't pass and cuts had to be made. I'm so upset.

Notre Dame has over 1/2 a billion euro donated already. It is heartening to see all the recent donations for the Louisiana churches.

I think I’m broken, gals. I started Becoming and and barely made it through the intro. Maybe because it’s audio? I want to love it, but I’m like how will I make it 19 hours!? Maybe memoirs aren’t my thing? Sob

Sob This reminded me to look on my library app where I was in line to check it out electronically so now I'm sitting on the porch with berries and prosciutto reading until I need to pick up my kids. Bye bye productivity.

For me, I could have spent 19 more hours listening to Michelle talk. She was like a calm friend I had with me and I needed her words.

Ok speaking of Michelle, have we talked about this yet (I haven't RTMFT sorry):
“We come from a broken family, we are a little unsettled,” Obama said, according to The Independent. “Sometimes you spend the weekend with divorced dad. That feels like fun but then you get sick. That is what America is going through. We are living with divorced dad.”
Listen, I love Michelle. I loved "Becoming". I think she is awesome. But this is straight up backward and rude as hell. The "divorced dad doesn't know how to properly parent his children" trope is so tired and old and I am SO disappointed in her for this comment.

I’m very plot driven and too easily distracted by the lady detective novels that you keep recommending in the reading thread. 😂

I hate them so much. They clearly understand nothing about the many faces of disability or how hidden disability works. And the thought of the government policing the social media of people with disabilities is horrifying. 😡

I definitely have a type I read the first one a long time ago and liked it. I should try the rest! I just started book 4 of the Veronica Speedwell novels. I definitely have a type. And I’ll admit that I’ve been enjoying the escapism of reading about a different era’s societal problems these days.

Gah! Book 4 is so good. The Maisie Dobbs book that just came out takes place in 1940 during the Blitz in London. Winspear uses a lot of actual American broadcast excerpts from London to describe the events and mindset of London and it was so incredibly powerful and moving. So much to learn. And yes, I definitely have a type as well

Today is the 12th anniversary of the shooting at Virginia Tech. I was in college 2.5 hours away and vividly remember the vigil we had that night, and the sense of security that felt broken. I was teaching in a school in NoVA. I was in the office when the news broke and staff started running in trying to call their kids who were students at Tech.

I've been watching the news about the manhunt for the woman in Colorado. Apparently she is from Florida and traveled to the Denver metro area, bought a gun in Colorado, and is obsessed with the Columbine shooting. I hope they find her fast.
