jewels remember most of the kids here probably start kinder almost a month before us. T’s orientation is June 13th. I'm cool with waiting, I just want to know when! Our district is half day kinder, and we dont find out if we're am or PM until 1.5 weeks before before school starts....

chrisy01 I'm sorry your meeting didn't resolve things. I know you said you have better benefits than your H and that's a reason you don't really want to leave. I'm always surprised when I look at different companies benefit packages that the large companies sometimes don't have as good of benefits as smaller. My H works for a multi billion $$ company, hundreds of employees, and my insurance is cheaper and better coverage with less than 50 employees. You need to update your resume and start looking. It doesn't seem like they care that you are unhappy or seem willing to do anything about it. Being miserable at work is the worst. I had a job like that...every day I would send H a super long text about some bullshit. He eventually told me to quit, pick up more shifts at my part time retail job, anything to get away from the toxicity I was dealing with daily. Fortunately, it didn't come to that, I found something so much better pretty quick.

It just sucked because 1 manager had done the work but the other manager hadn’t even looked at it. So it was like him saying I’m don’t important.

Do they offer before/aftercare for working parents? I would prob do private in that situation..I'm already anxious about getting into before/after care and have it on my calendar when registration opens

peachsmama We are on half-day kinder also and here it is scheduled by neighborhood/address, and it alternates. So this year, my neighborhood is on afternoon shift, next year we'll be morning. Any chance your district does something similar so you can kind of figure it out?

What about people that need to secure child care for the other half a day? How would they do that?!?!? That would make me insane!!

The kinder classes are allocated per district here so it's all over the place, some have 2-3 days a week full days, most are half days, B is half days but no school on Thursdays. They ask that you put the preference of AM or PM and generally it's first come first serve. I was pretty adamant of having morning class so I was there first thing AM Feb 1 for registration last year and it worked out.

It is not run through the town, but there are 2 programs that most everyone in town does and I wanted to make sure I got into the one I wanted him in!

Most daycare's have a van for transport to near-ish schools and if they take a bus the yellow bus comes to the daycare for pick up. So B's school days look like this: Daycare drop off by me at 7am Get on daycare van for drop off to school by 8.40am Daycare van pick up at 11.40am and takes back to daycare We do pick up at daycare at 4.00-ish Transportation is included in the cost of daycare, the cost is more than full day school kids, but less than the pre-k daycare class.

That definitely helps. None of the day cares around here bus and I live in a tiny town that only buses if you live more than 2 miles from your school. I live under 2 miles from 4 different elementary schools (maybe 5), a middle school and the high school! And a lot of people around here use nannies for aftercare so they can take their kids to afterschool activities (we are not doing that b/c $$$).

We live in a smallish city (30,000) and they only bus the SN students. X can use the bus if they put him in the SN preschool across town, but I don’t feel good about putting a three year-old on a bus, so hopefully he will be here at the same school as Dude. Our school has onsite before and aftercare for TK - 6th. ($450/month for TK and K students, because they are there half day and have an actual teacher and curriculum), and I think $350/month for 1st - 6th. Our city also has an aftercare program for 1st - 8th that’s at the Civic Center building. The older kids have a teen zone area so they are separate from the elementary kids. They have tutoring and homework help. The various schools have a Development Center staff person walk the kids over if they are close enough, or they have vans. That one is a really good deal at $600/year.

I'm not sure when it's finalized here what session you get...'by neighborhood' is the rule of thumb but I do know the district reserves the right to make adjustments if the #s need tweaking. 2019-20 is the last year for half-day for our district. Our district has been transitioning the last couple years but they started with lower performing schools first. Our school is in the last group to make the switch.

I went 8:20-1:30 for K and I feel like that is perfect.. Admittedly half day feels too short to me (mostly b/c he'll be done by 11:30, lol) but I don't love the idea of 8-3 at that age, either. Oh well.

In town kids did morning, country did afternoons.

Oh well. This is where I am. 830 to 1 sounds perfect. I’d also be fine with half-day because I’m home, but I think it’s a long day to go from 8:25 to 315. At the orientation I learned that in years past (probably 5+ years ago) they only did full day kindergarten Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. I guess I would be down with that, too. The teachers at this orientation did stress that they know the day is long for the kids so they try and do the heavy lifting in the morning (still focused on play), but take it a little bit lighter in the afternoon. We will also have morning and afternoon snack as well as lunch with recess.

What’s weird about our district is they do offer full day preschool, but not for SN students. And the aftercare isn’t open to them, either.
Hence the reason I’m either forced to quit working or find an arrangement for X for the afternoons. Plus, find a way to fit in whatever therapies they aren’t going to do at school.

C will be in full day daycare. It runs from 7:45am to 2:40pm. He will take the bus there and at the end of the day his current place will pick him and the other kids up in their van and bring them there until I pick up at 5:30. Its a long day but its all he's known really. Right now its 7am-5:30. They are open until 6 and yesterday he asked if I could pick him up when they closed so he has more time to play.

I'm happy we have full day as well. S has been full time at DC since 12 weeks old, so it's also all he's ever known. If we only had 1/2 day then I'd just have to pay for more aftercare, since he'd still be somewhere all day!

I'm horrible...I have no idea what time kindergarten is from. It is a full day program, but you have the option for half day. I want her in all day.
